The man who wrote this, Gene MacLellan, suffered from depression for which he was hospitalized. He died by his own hand at the age of 56. But he left us this gift (and others).
Their keys are so far apart, and they tried to get it in G for JC and that isn't his best key. He does a lot of searching, you can hear it when he sings. And as much as I loved him, I agree with professional vocals....but boy, there is nobody that can sing those Johnny Cash songs like he can.....he owns songs when he does them right...this isn't one of them for sure.
Anne Murray is the original singer of this song.. Elvis can do as well as she can. But no one, even the wonderful Johnny Cash can't hold a candle to her on this song.
