Dimitri J and Peter McLaurin, what he means is that there are other ways to become rich and earn the same as doctors but it takes time don't expect it like overnight but you will have more work/life balance and enjoy your salary not like doctors/lawyers/CEOs who make a shit ton of money but don't have time to use it and the ones who have free time don't make the big bucks, so if you wanna be rich and happy become a youtuber/actor/athlete.
Honestly I’ve been battling my parents about this everyday. I’m a nurse and they keep telling me to go to medical school just because they’re friends kids are doctors. My dad keeps bringing it up and he can’t even give me a legit reason why I should be doctor. At one point I was in the process of taking pre med courses than I thought long and hard about why I was doing this then I stopped because this is not what I want to do
That's usually how it is, your parent's usually have peers who kids are doctors, lawyers, etc. Now your parents feels insecure talking to their friends cuz you aren't a doctor/lawyer.
Yea my parents r like this but I’m being a doctor to spite them. My parents don’t think anything is wrong with being a doctor just that your being too altruistic. Most doctors are just risk adverse people who want status.
I dont think most pre med students realize how difficult it is to get into the top specialites either. First off only 37% of applicants make it into medical school. Of those who graduate and become physicians less than 10% will get into the illustrious top specialties like sports medicine, cardio surgery, neurosurgery etc. Most 50-60% will be internal medicine, pediatrics, emergency med, hospitialist, psychiatrist will make from 150-300. Keep in mind that they will also be graduating with 250-350k in loans not including interest. Medicine is not the fantasy you see on television
Youre an idiot! MY DOCTOR is the fantasy i see! He’s fucking awesome, speaks English and Spanish! He’s in private practice, has everybody’s business, and was great during his time at the hospital! Not all of us wanna work tirelessly to be a doctor because “glamorous television”. DERP. This is the same for prolific surgeons, crafty lawyers, or mighty tv businesspeople… pianists, etc. People wanna be them to be awesome, and that’s the highest achievement. Multi-tradespeople of excellence. The ones who know and survive. Scholars. All while making people’s lives more charming - including the world. If I wanted to be what i saw on television, i’d be a ganster !! Or GTA character! Please, continue to sob out your failures 🧾🙍🏻 because you werent able to become Greys Anatomy 😭
I have wanted to become a doctor for so long but it just doesn’t seem worth it since there are many exams and if you fail ONE then you’re done. It is such a risk because if you fail out of medical school what are you going to do?
honestly I would consider working as a doctor if they didn't require worse than serfdom hours. I am not sacrificing my health to be allowed legally to assist others with their health
become a doctor because you want to heal people and help people. We already have enough shitty doctors. I can read tons of info online and come up with a diagnose and these damn doctors spend 5 minutes with a patient and come up with a wrong diagnosis
Something important to learn if you become a doctor or nurse is that you never lose a life. It was meant go since the beginning and you tried to stop it, but it was inevitable. And yes to the comment on top. That is why you should become a doctor for passion and no money. Some people are born this way and experience shock or stress, but not trauma out of that.
I hear you I truly do but making Money I found wasn’t enough.... I know plenty of people who make great money, just a BA or MA and are still miserable. You have to define success for yourself and achieve that. Everything you do will have a stress factor.... EVERYTHING
This is an incredible sentiment, thank you for the comment! I want to be a doctor and I struggle with an anxiety disorder. I always have to tell myself that no matter what job I choose there will be stress, so I might as well go for it.
The fact that all you talked about was the "financial aspect" makes it look like the sole reason most people go for medicine is for the money. Also, in some countries students don't have such debts to pay off.
My best friend has her mind set on studying medicine just because her parents said it's more "practical" for her to do that so that she lives a "comfortable," life. They were unhappy when she said that she wanted to study writing and/or music. They were able to convince her to become a neurosurgeon anyways with the argument that "they make a lot of money." She clearly isn't passionate about medicine. She doesn't even like science or math. She would say how she didn't understand 10th grade chemistry and wasn't the best in middle school and high school math. I just don't want her to go to school for something she is not passionate about. She says she's gonna go through with medicine to buy a 5 million dollar townhouse in NYC. She has very unrealistic expectations at times and I want to help her out, not to discourage her, but try to sway her in the direction of doing something she's truly passionate about doing. Can you help me out? Do you have any tips for a situation like this?
Chasing money will only make you miserable as a doctor, also I live in NY you would go broke trying to get a $5 million dollar house even with a doctors salary because of NYC taxes. If all you want is money there are much better careers that can pay just as much without all that school
@@IncomeOverOutcome Thank you so much for this advice. My friend is insistent but I want to let her be realistic about her career and not just go for the money like you said. I definitely understand what your saying but my friend doesn't. :( I will make her come to her senses. Also, what videos can I watch from you that list some potential alternatives to recommend to my friend.
Your friend is very naive and obviously has not shadowed physicians. Link her this video and if she's smart she will recognize that money absolutely cannot be the driving force behind her career decision.
don't worry, someone dumb enough to not understand 10th grade chemistry will never make it to Med School. She'll immediately fail and then she can go on to do whatever it is she's adequate for. It'll be a tough impact, but for intellectually inept people most of life is tough no matter what.
i have dreamt about being a physician for years and i just chose med school, i guess im determined to help people. i like it, doesnt matter about financial reasons
@@IncomeOverOutcome so you’re saying that even if I’m learning to be doctor or a nurse I shouldn’t for own sake? I’m trying to become a practical nurse so I think they both are way different
I’m in final year mbbs . It’s literally not worth it . U have sacrifice every dear thing to you . Away from parents , no emotions only anxiety . People judging from right left and centre ….according to marks and grades . This is not worth it . Do what ur hearts wants to do . Feel free and choose your profession wisely . Its not worth it .
Hello, it's been a year. Are you a doctor now? Has your feelings about medicine changed? I'm considering med school, if you could give me some advice it would be great.
Medicine is beautiful, caring for others is amazing. Students loans are a lot but there are program where you can pay an amount that doesn’t effect your other financial obligations such as living costs. The more experience you get the more money you can make. You can work with private clinics, hospitals, insurances and they’re all will pay you.
Glad I never wanted to be a doctor anyway😄. But the world does need doctors, it’s for a special kind of person. (Maybe there could be alternatives to help with problems of med school debt) but I respect doctors so much!
As a poor senior resident who doesn’t make much, works incredibly long hours, has a mountain of med school debt and literally studied and worked most of my 20s and early 30s away, you’re forgetting the absolute privilege it is to take care of patients. There’s a lot of stress and it’s very difficult and requires tons of resilience, but again, it’s an absolute privilege to work for and help your patients.

@@myutube4realz Yeah but let's not forget we need people like this or we would all be screwed. It's great to see others go through this struggle so that we can get taken care of. I couldn't be him.
I have to disagree right off the bat. Money does matter. It's not the number one thing but if they could pay doctors less they would. You can love your work but only the pay increase for more work makes people doctors and not nurses/PAs. It's similar work but the question is would you rather do more and get paid more or not. Therefore, the salary and money is an important factor for those going into medicine as told to me by 90% of the doctors I have met. Money shouldn't be all but it is definitely important.
Agreed! It’s also just a function of finances. In the US med school costs a LOT, so it wouldn’t be realistic to become a doctor if the salary didn’t pay off. Even if you love the job, few people would be willing to pursue it if the salary didn’t pay off.
@@Ella-Elj Why does everyone think think that med school is the only school that costs a lot of money? There are many other professions in which their schooling also costs a lot, but the salaries provided to them would make paying off their school loans a lot more difficulty because of the wider gap.
Dear neet aspirants don’t get demotivated by seeing videos of doctors who say they get low salaries, high stress etc Every job in the world has their own type of stress, pressure etc . No job in the world will make you rich . Whether you are a doctor or engineer or management professional you can’t become rich by doing the job alone. By doing a job you get average stable income which is very important To become rich you start doing buisness or investing or trading along while working as a doctor Their is no way you will become rich (I mean ex: you can ride a bmw/Porsche instead of Maruthi) other than by doing buisness, trading or investing But it’s riskier to start buisness or investing before you get a job. So work hard to get a job then think ways to become rich. By working as a doctor you can do service and get social status/respect( which is very important and difficult to get from other jobs) By doing buisness or investing you can become rich Always be happy and enjoy the journey😊
I don’t disagree but I’ve been studying since I was 10 and I’m not even in High School yet! I’ve learnt Biology and chemistry ( only some ) and I made up my mind. I don’t care how many hours I have to work or how much I have to study, I WILL become a neurosurgeon! Thanks for this vid. It helped me think about my financial, I’ll start planning ahead 😉!
First year med student here. You go kid!! Don’t let anyone stifle that inspiration, but make sure you continue to test the waters as the field of medicine evolves. Best of luck, your initiative will take you far no matter what you do.
Same here .....Being a doctor ( gastrologist) is my aim, dream and goal .. I am an IX grader and i am almost ahead to start my dream . # Respect and Save Doctors.....they are sacrificing their life from 12 th and ahead . ........
yeah to be fair, i don’t know if becoming a neurosurgeon is worth it anymore. my family’s poor, school is tough, the idea that i might not even get into med school cos of my mcat scores stress me out & the amount of debt i will be in terrifies me. i just don’t know what to be , virology interests me so much but i dunno
My dad is a physician in the Army and is pressuring me to become a Dr and telling me that Dr=Success but I personally want to be a sports broadcaster, I have a good amount of knowledge on the subject matter, not to mention my linguistic skills are A1 🤷🏽♂️
Yah I get annoyed when people say if you become a doctor or a lawyer or a musician you are automatically successful. No we are all successful no matter your career even if you work at a call center. I worked at a call center an its important we help customers that needs help on they situation. I want to be a lawyer not because of the money or Because it will put respect on my name or because of success. I actually want to help an make a difference. I wanted to help because I was inspired by 2pac when he was in situation with the law an saw how he was innocent. An he went to jail. I wanted to make a difference an actually cares bout the victims. Every job is important an they is a need to be met. If you're doing things for success or money u will become self centered an for get the purpose an miss the mark. An you will become miserable at your job. An feel unsuccessful because the money you get is not what you expected 💯
You dont take into account job stability, not having to worry about being replaced or fired because you have a medical license, social standing, prestige, and self-esteem. There are so many jobs out there where you can make decent amount of money but you dont feel so good about yourselves and not feeling you make a decent contribution for society. That right there if it can be converted to monetary gains, is so much more than the actual income.
I was thinking about going into Physical Therapy school but after doing the math, average debt being 130k, + 3 years of not working for a minimum salary of 30k = -220k. The average salary being 70k which really equates to 56,000 after taxes and subtracting all living expenses such as insurances, utilities, mortgages, etc you may be able to save 10-20k a year meaning you won't be able to save money to spend for yourself until 11-22 years after graduating...
I agree Med school is not worth it. I just posted a video on my own channel about the loans that I owe and how long it’s going to be for me to pay it off. This is an awesome channel. Keep it up.
@@Brandon-vv2oe With how much I'm paying now, many years (~15 years). I am going to be making some changes in my life, which may make it take longer to pay off my loans too :/. Also, I have been investing in other things, this year besides paying off my loans :o :/. I know I shouldn't depend on this, but I really, REALLY hope PSLF goes through
even if I did not have to worry about tuition or I had the academics I still would not even think about becoming a doctor or anything in medicine, because its stressful, exhausting, its all paperwork, and you don't get to enjoy your salary. I don't wanna discourage anyone but that's the reality of the real world, and the cons literally vaporize the pros in my opinion.
@@Ranvirgrewal2792 Exactly. The only day you have guaranteed is today, why be sad and depressed for at least eight straight years of med school + residency?
I think parents who want their kids to become doctors should watch this video to see the reality of such a shitty career and that happiness is more important than success. And that doctors and dentists commit suicide more than any profession
Hey just was a bit confused. The 4.7 million total earnings figure seems misleading. Assuming a doctor begins practicing, that’s 35 years years of an attendings salary. With the 4.7 million total earnings figure, that equates to about 134k per year. As far as I know, no physician, even a primary care physician makes that little. The lowest averages around atleast 170k and onwards. Or I could just be trippin
It's insane how anyone would want to become a Doc anymore. Lots of useless school, everyone learns better on the job. I've heard from lots of Docs that their learning didn't start until residency. Then like you said, they work an insane amount of hours, I work with Docs every day and lots of them don't even get full days off they spend part of their off days charting. Then all of the student dept. Our education system needs major change. With the help of Technology and developing apprenticeship programs like residency there's no reason why it could take less than 4 years to become a regular primary care doc.
Not true. The human body is a very, very complex machine, there's 7 billion of them and they all behave differently. The first 5 years of medicine is needed for you to acquire the gigantic amount of theoretical knowledge about every single aspect of the human body, from the biophysics of electrolite pumps, to the function of cytochromes, through every single structure that every single nerve, muscle and bloodvessel goes through, what it crosses and what it passes, to the treatment of early onset dementia and the red tape regarding drug refundation. It's not IT, where you basically need to know nothing before you start working, and there are no stakes because what you do isn't really meaningful - you need to understand how and why EVERYTHING works in this machine before you even touch it. That's why it takes so long, because it's tens of thousands of pages of information that you have to be able to access in your brain at any given time, or you won't understand how to treat an ailment, why the drug didn't work, what can be the adverse effect, what to do next. And yeah, by comparison, every other job is easier to learn and requiring less intellect than medicine. The GP has an ocean of information to navigate, and learning this job cannot take 4 years. It's not being a potato salesman.
@@beabea5985 1. Tech is progressing substantially, AI is already helping providers with medical decisions. 2. Our education system is set up by cramming as much info as it can into our heads by having us memorize text books, that's not learning hence many providers don't start learning until residency, until then you're jumping through hoops. I work along side providers and a main stream EMR every day as a clinical informatics analyst, I've spoken with many caregivers on this subject. Main consensus is that caregivers don't start learning until they're on the job through residency, clinicals, etc. I didn't start learning my job until I was thrown into the fire. Many providers today are practicing without knowing every single little thing about their specialty, shit I've walked in on providers looking procedures up on YT to learn how to do something before they do the procedure themselves. Or using applications like Up to date on how to treat something. Not saying to totally get rid of college or med school and go straight to apprenticeship programs, but school needs a huge overhaul because again, 90% of it is totally worthless outside of the academia bubble.
Most people only go because of peer/parental pressure. And not realizing there are other jobs out there that offer better work-life balance and still good enough salary.
docs rarely help people...they make disease worse and patients are over charged for the crap service....not service just bunch of prescriptions from google given by the doc
That’s probably a good thing. A lot of people have a formal education mindset, and not too many go their way to research and try to make money on their own.
If you are a person with great compassion, love to care and cure ppl who are suffering and to heal and save lives, then that’s a right path and very rewarding.
This video is super helpful. Im currently deciding wether or not I should attempt to be a doctor. Ill make ~40k guaranteed for the rest of my life. Im undergrad right now and ill graduate with my bachelors at 28 years old. I feel like pursuing medicine will totally put me behind the curve when I could hit the workforce at 28 and make a decent salary.
Can you do a video on biomedical engineering because I like all the stuff about it and the mix or health and machinery but I don’t know a lot. And can you explain everything about the job like salary what classes u should take in highschool and college and majors and everything in between
Would you say med school is worth it in Europe without student loans? I received an offer from a European university and it would only be 350 Euros per semester.
Nope. Take it from someone who used to be a doctor in Europe - the pay is incredibly measly, the lawsuits are on the rise, and now that the pandemic is in full bloom, they frequently get harassed and even assaulted by patients, plus property damage and the fact that some governments make the medical workers the number one enemy of society and solely blame them for mishandling the pandemic - and you've got your answer. Do not do it. It's an ungrateful, humiliating job that, unlike, say IT, will always require you to have almost no self respect and force you to be around unwashed, smelly, sick people, many of who hate you right away and would love nothing more than to watch you fail. You will also be forced to watch as your childhood friends make more money off their dumbass TikToks than you just did resuscitating a newborn. Please, don't do it. It shaves years off your life, years that nobody's gonna give you back. I became a graphic designer and have never looked back since.
I think it's a good alternative to avoid student loans. When you'll get your degree you can just go back to the US or anywhere else and make that money. I think it's a smart choice.
No. Europe doctors get paid a lot less than American doctors. Even though there’s student debt, US physicians get paid 3 times as much as a British and French doctor.
Wow, I’m sorry. Push through! So many people have quit before they could even get to where you are. Good luck and I hope you can find some enjoyment in your career!❤️
@@dentaladdict98 Yes and no. It’s hard work and it’s frustrating. At the same time, it’s fulfilling and beautiful. I am speaking as a PA but this is the sentiment among doctors as well. Medicine is a love-hate relationship. People outside of this field don’t understand how it feels. On one hand, it’s stressful, exhausting, and frustrating. On the other hand, the privilege of taking care of patients is deeply moving and gratifying. So if you ask a physician or PA if they regret it… the answer is yes and no.

The only stipulation is that this assumption must be made from primary care/ family practice. Surgeons on the other hand can make 500,000 to a mil a year. That’s the average income of most Americans in a month. Imagine make 40,000 a month. It might not make sense financially as much to do primary care but there is no way people can act as if teachers and surgeons life financially is even close. That’s a long shot
Money was just one of the many points he made. Many surgeons are burned out and exhausted from long work hours. They wish they had more time for family and for themselves. What’s the point of all that money if you can’t enjoy it? What’s the point of money if you’re tired and miserable?
Doing medicine is self inflicted pain. Doctors are mostly masochists. So much of the industry can be improved but no one wants to do anything about it because they have something to prove - that they are worth it. Large scale studies show that medical intervention as a whole have no nett benefit. Maybe that’s why they structured their industry this way. Then at least they can say: “at least, we worked really hard!!”
I disagree that money shouldn't influence your decision to become a doctor. That's not realistic. It def shouldn't be your only reason but at the day of the day we all want Financial Security. Also if the person is passionate about science and medicine then go for it become a doctor.
Cool video, but after residency, doctors can negociate how many hours or days will they work, so they can create ther own life balance and still earning a good income! Am I right?
Do think dental school is worth it? I am actually really interested in going to dental school but I heard from some people that the amount of debt you get from dental school, makes it not worth it. What do you think about this?
I’m willing to take the “risk” , I have no interest in nothing else besides being a doctor , and half of it is because of income but that’s because I want a career that I will love and still make money from , and with a doctors income it’s Beverly easy to make big investments and make your salary way higher!

Optometry definitely has have better work life balance, pediatricians still have to be on call but the overall work life balance is definitely better than more specialized paths, like surgeons.
It really annoys me how doctors see themselves as the embodiment of helping others, yes, they do help many people, but they never work alone and believing health professionals are the only ones helping is really arrogant and disrespectful to other vital areas of society
FOR EVERY CHECK, TAKE SOME MONEY AND INVEST IT IN STOCK MARKET. USE THE DIVIDEND TO INCREASE YOUR SALARY FORGET ABOUT COMPOUND INTEREST! Take the money out! PAY YOUR TAXES ON IT AND elevate your feet! REPEAT THIS PROCESS. You can not stop a resident or doctor from making more income. Let them go and elevate their feet. Let the money work overtime and long hours; not you.

There’s more to life than money and status. Surgeons are burned out, work long hours, and had to commit so many years of schools and training. Only to not have much time for themselves and for their family. What’s the point of money if you can’t enjoy it? Only do this if you can’t see yourself doing anything else. Being a surgeon is for someone who’s willing to sacrifice their own personal life for the lives of others. Young naive people chase money and status. Older people realize that family and happiness are most important. When you get older and wiser you’ll understand.

The title 'IS MED SCHOOL WORTH IT" sums up why the healthcare system in the U.S. sucks and most doctors these days misdiagnose and are incompetent. I'm not even listening to the video because if someone is becoming a doctor just for money then you shouldn't have become a doctor in the first place. Playing around with peoples health for your personal gain is tragic.
3:43, your explanation here doesnt make sense to me, your saying a doctor has to put in twice as many house, but they are making twice as much! So a doctor could work half as much and make as much as a teacher. 143k for 4.7m 77k for 2.3m Your hourly comparison makes no sense.
In the European union becoming doctor is just 6 years after highschool and in my country (Bulgaria) medical school is super cheap not anithyng like america people all around the world come here to study here so you are not right it is absolutely worth it nkt to mention that surgical specialties are hell bettter paid than you said.
American doctors get paid much more than Europe doctors. Their lifetime earnings far surpass non-US doctors. There’s a small delay because of the student loans but after they’re paid off, their earnings far exceed foreign physicians.

You can't put a price tag on that. 2) Carrying an MD or DO behind your name opens you up to a world of opportunities that you couldn't get otherwise. 3) Sure you only make 4.7M (haven't verified your math), but the access to that much more capital allows you to do so much more with it, potentially quadrupling your income. 4) Sure loans suck, but a lot of hiring opportunities give you loan payback bonus on top of your salary (with a commitment), or you can do PSLF which pays your loans for you, or do military and your tuition is free 5) You can set your schedule (depending on your group) and there are a lot of specialties that have exceptional work-life balance (psych comes to mind).

Honestly I’ve been battling my parents about this everyday. I’m a nurse and they keep telling me to go to medical school just because they’re friends kids are doctors. My dad keeps bringing it up and he can’t even give me a legit reason why I should be doctor. At one point I was in the process of taking pre med courses than I thought long and hard about why I was doing this then I stopped because this is not what I want to do
Do what makes you happy!

DO NOT DARE DO WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO DO.
DO NOT let yourself be pressured. They should be finding out what YOU really want. Not the other way around.

Hello, I think I have the right ***********. I read an article about your conversation with ***************, was that you? I wanted to share some of my findings with you about racism, discrimination and its origins. In particular the current situation around the globe. People all think these incidents are one off occurrences by individuals but the truth is they have a large foundation and I keep reminding people about some history with Roman Catholics in Africa way back from Caesar in Egypt to Mussolini gassing Africans in the 1920 before ww2 and even the ebola outbreak in West African diamond mines and so many other events. Maltese and Italians moving into Tripoli and Libya pushing Africans out onto boats but Malta and Italy closing their borders to refugees.... You also have to realize and consider that the Roman Catholic empire has deeply established roots throughout history and humanity especially considering they have wiped out opposition through genocide, ethnic cleansing, famine and wars. Not only do they cause famines but they then ask everyone else for money to supposedly save them so people who want to help actually help the instigator not the victim. Dr Faucci ties into all of this with his 1980 aids projects. Medicating Africans making them sick while appealing for funds claiming to help them. Italian. Biggest mobs and industries and that's how they do it, and St Johns medical military Maltese and Jewish establishment. They kill people off to take assets and estates while rounding up people who want to help their victims claiming money and funds telling them they are on it. This is the deception and everyone is locked down and isolated and divided and can't do anything about it. They also own the communications, and media, police, courts etc so they can quickly identify and deal with any opposition. This is what happened on 9/11. It was a diversion, it was a way to clear out any defence who wasn't with them and focus it against other opposition. They evicted the defence force and sent them to die and those that didnt were stopped from coming back by medical with claims of PTSD and suicides. Medical military roman catholic. It's bigger than you think.
Dear neet aspirants don’t get demotivated by seeing videos of doctors who say they get low salaries, high stress etc
Every job in the world has their own type of stress, pressure etc . No job in the world will make you rich . Whether you are a doctor or engineer or management professional you can’t become rich by doing the job alone.
By doing a job you get average stable income which is very important
To become rich you start doing buisness or investing or trading along while working as a doctor
Their is no way you will become rich (I mean ex: you can ride a bmw/Porsche instead of Maruthi) other than by doing buisness, trading or investing
But it’s riskier to start buisness or investing before you get a job. So work hard to get a job then think ways to become rich.
By working as a doctor you can do service and get social status/respect( which is very important and difficult to get from other jobs)
By doing buisness or investing you can become rich

I was thinking about going into Physical Therapy school but after doing the math, average debt being 130k, + 3 years of not working for a minimum salary of 30k = -220k. The average salary being 70k which really equates to 56,000 after taxes and subtracting all living expenses such as insurances, utilities, mortgages, etc you may be able to save 10-20k a year meaning you won't be able to save money to spend for yourself until 11-22 years after graduating...

It might not make sense financially as much to do primary care but there is no way people can act as if teachers and surgeons life financially is even close. That’s a long shot
If your going to be a orthopedic surgeon in the U.S you make around 500k in Florida and no income tax
So around 30k a month after fed tax
Pharamacology careers exist too though
Cool video, but after residency, doctors can negociate how many hours or days will they work, so they can create ther own life balance and still earning a good income! Am I right?
Do think dental school is worth it? I am actually really interested in going to dental school but I heard from some people that the amount of debt you get from dental school, makes it not worth it. What do you think about this?
Pretty similar to the points made in this video, you work less hours but still dont do it just for the money
becoming a doctor may not be worth it but going to a doctor definetly isnt worth it.
what about a general practitioner? is it worth it because i have always dreamed of becoming one and not because of the money?
They're some of the lowest paid and more overworked
I’m willing to take the “risk” , I have no interest in nothing else besides being a doctor , and half of it is because of income but that’s because I want a career that I will love and still make money from , and with a doctors income it’s Beverly easy to make big investments and make your salary way higher!
Started pre med at the age of 27, now i am 30. Just got done with pre med and preparing for mcat. I was very motivated initially but i do not want to do this anymore. I have been working as a medical surgical nurse since 5 years. I am glad I found your video. I really wanted to know what else I can do. Thanks!!
Maybe become a PA?
Same I was in that process but I stopped because I realized this is not it.
What if you want to be a pediatrician or a optometrist. With the work life issue. I have a very solid college fund
Optometry definitely has have better work life balance, pediatricians still have to be on call but the overall work life balance is definitely better than more specialized paths, like surgeons.
Can you do one about dermatology??
*laughs in accounting* Small loans, good start pay, and six figure potential 10-15 years in.
Facts, that's why accounting was one of the best business majors I spoke about int his video th-cam.com/video/6Hm1SlbdU8Y/w-d-xo.html
I don’t know if it’s because my parents aren’t the best financially ( im 13 yrs old). But 61k in residency sounds like a good amount of money to me😂
It really annoys me how doctors see themselves as the embodiment of helping others, yes, they do help many people, but they never work alone and believing health professionals are the only ones helping is really arrogant and disrespectful to other vital areas of society
True. All professions or any other job is a service
I’m medical student from Russia. And it irritates me to see how arrogant medics are.
Very true
idiot docs arrogant pricks useless waste fellows
FOR EVERY CHECK, TAKE SOME MONEY AND INVEST IT IN STOCK MARKET. USE THE DIVIDEND TO INCREASE YOUR SALARY FORGET ABOUT COMPOUND INTEREST! Take the money out! PAY YOUR TAXES ON IT AND elevate your feet! REPEAT THIS PROCESS. You can not stop a resident or doctor from making more income. Let them go and elevate their feet. Let the money work overtime and long hours; not you.
Being a doctor is worth it if you really want it. You will see your satisfaction later in life.
doubt it shit job
So would you say nurse practitioners and crnas are also not worth it?
For all these medical fields it comes down to your passion, if you truly want to do it to help people it will be worth it
Lol this video embodies my exact feelings
haha i refused my mom to be an MD cause i saw what life my dad led. i didn't want that.
as a nurse, i left d/t lack of admi care and OTs.
it takes ALOT of heart to stay in the HC profession...
Being a doctor is not a perfect field. It has some prime characteristic p, with some element failing to have a p-th root. Being a mathematician, on the other hand, is a perfect field.
Is there a pun or joke im missing here 😅😅
I'm currently in college and doing btec bio medical science. I want to go into health care can you help me to pick through because I want to help people.
There's a lot of different jobs in healthcare. It depends what you enjoy, do you want patient contact, no patient contact, etc
@@IncomeOverOutcome im happy with either
U can do nursing, radiography, physiotherapist etc
Consider shadowing various health professionals when clinics open up.
You need to share a video on Nursing!!..
What do you think about PA ? Do you have a LinkedIn ? I would love to do what you do, I was a premed until I started watching you I want to do healthcare consulting now . I would love to connect with you and get some advice
PA is pretty good, depends on what you want. Feel free to message me on insta :)
@@IncomeOverOutcome Thank you! i have sent a message
I want to become a PA too.
My brother wanted to be a doctor. But became a TikToker instead. He makes 10 times what a doctor makes.
Can you talk about more healthcare administration jobs?
Definitely planning on it!
curious too
I don’t wanna go to med school but I want to do something in sport medicine like a sport doctor
U could be a physiotherapist?
@@getintoits2786 acc thats my decision im struggling with right now do I keep trying for medicine or move to physio
coming from a disadv background finance and money are important to me so sport med would provide more but all the years of med school to specialize at the end seesm so gruesome
@@TheGrapplingNinja could u see yourself studying in med skl being a Dr or being a physiotherapist?
@@TheGrapplingNinja does med skl provide less money?
@@getintoits2786 sorry no i meant sport physicians make more than physio
Yup, that is why I am sticking to Biochemistry
I want to do biotechnology which is similar, what do you plan to do with your degree?
But what about hair salary, they make close to 20m not 4.7
Not going to lie I just wanted to become a surgeon for the money
Think wisely 😌they are many other careers
There’s more to life than money and status. Surgeons are burned out, work long hours, and had to commit so many years of schools and training. Only to not have much time for themselves and for their family. What’s the point of money if you can’t enjoy it? Only do this if you can’t see yourself doing anything else. Being a surgeon is for someone who’s willing to sacrifice their own personal life for the lives of others.
Young naive people chase money and status. Older people realize that family and happiness are most important. When you get older and wiser you’ll understand.
@@david9840not to mention you lose all of your money when you die. Might as well enjoy your life as much as possible.

That cup was empty the whole time you were holding it wasn’t it?
What if you do med school abroad, and don't end up in debt?
That’s what I’m doing
@@20ajeep98 I want to do this, but I can't really find any countries that are affordable for medical school
I am in Pakistan right now studying for the mdcat to get into dimc
20 A Jeep bro omg me too lol, I'm trying to get into Dow or Kmdc
Just don't try to come back, it's hard as hell to find a job
Can anyone offer me any career guidance/advice?
Did pre-med in Cell & Moelcular Bio with Minor in Chem.
Graduated Medical School, but not sure I want to continue onto residency, feeling really burnt out and questioning whether I want to do this or not.
What are my options?
You’ve come this far might as well finish it off
@@kamfn8665 sunk cost fallacy… I say you have a lot of options. If you are smart enough to not only make in medical school but finish… you can literally do anything.
@@sallydurant9899 Usually I would agree with that but there’s a point where it’s much more practical to finish the job. He likely has $200,000-250,000 in student loans, and it’s compounding with interest. That’s A LOT of debt. How is he going to pay it off without a physician salary? It’s going to hang over his head for a long time unless he works as a doctor.
I mean.. that was the exact point of the video
@@IncomeOverOutcome im just in my feelings because i have a 10 year missiagnosed autoimmune disease
My aim is trauma neurosurgery so I kinda need med school.
Fk off you kid! End up being poor😂
@UC2O7fijLTs4XCevTHr41WqA fuck off too 😒
You can do it always believe in yourself
3:43, your explanation here doesnt make sense to me, your saying a doctor has to put in twice as many house, but they are making twice as much! So a doctor could work half as much and make as much as a teacher.
143k for 4.7m
77k for 2.3m
Your hourly comparison makes no sense.
Really great and informative video made with the right attitude! Incredible work!
I still think it’s worth it though . #Medicine 💯
nah ur losty
Hlo brother I am doing pharmacy in Pakistan but when I open TH-cam people saying pharmacy job market dead in united states
I have a plan to move to us I think u can guide me

Solid job, although yes it is getting increasingly competitive

It's bigger than you think.
yes this is my confirmation that this isn't for me
I have to say, this guy has absolutely no idea what he's talking about.
1) Being a physician is incredibly rewarding at an internal level.
4) Sure loans suck, but a lot of hiring opportunities give you loan payback bonus on top of your salary (with a commitment), or you can do PSLF which pays your loans for you, or do military and your tuition is free
5) You can set your schedule (depending on your group) and there are a lot of specialties that have exceptional work-life balance (psych comes to mind).
