    I was born and raised in McMinnville. It's a great place to raise a family. Thank you for the nice video. I worked for the company that brought the Spruce Goose to Oregon.

      Nice! Glad you enjoyed the video. Hopefully I'll get the kids down there again to see the Spruce Goose in person.

    Great video. Lived in McMinnville since 1985. Another great thing about McMinnville is we don’t have oregons PGE. We have our own water and light. Power costs is about half of what pge customers pay.

      That is cool. I think most places that have their own power district are pretty happy with that.

    We stumbled in to McMinville about the same way you did. Returning from San Diego in the RV, decided we didn't want to go all the way home and stopped off at the Old Stone RV Park. Loved it and have been going back every year since. About 5 years now. Love the heat in the summer, yet it cools off at night. Love the shopping and dining. Love that it's a fairly quick drive to the beach too.

      I hadn't thought of how close it is to the beach, but you are right -- you could easily combine a stop in McMinnville with a look a the coast. A remarkably well-positioned city!

      @@adame-hwilson150 there wasn't any Vineyards when I was growing up. It was just a bunch of farm country. Back in the day when we didn't have the internet. We used to ride our bikes everywhere. Those were the days! It's really too expensive to live in McMinnville anymore. Kind of funny, McMinnville used to be the little town that you lived in if you worked in Portland OR Salem because it was affordable. Still a beautiful place to visit! I love it down here in southern Oregon. You should really make a trip!

    I moved there in 1981. It’s a terrific town. I was 5. I moved when the Papermill closed in the next large town Newberg. It’s a great city to raise a family. It’s also home to Linfield college.

      Yes -- I noticed the college. McMinnville sure has a lot going on for its size. Punches above its weight, you might say.

    Really enjoyed that, thanks! Interesting that the Spruce Goose is now in McMinnville as before that I believe it was in Tillamook. Not sure when it left Long Beach, but now I'm curious.

      @adame-hwilson150  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I feel like the Spruce Goose moves around. But it's something you are always hearing about -- or at least you used to -- the giant plane! A lot of times, it's difficult to finance the upkeep and display of big machines, like the old steam locomotives. So credit to the folks in McMinnville for taking on a big piece of history.

      Memories from being a child in Mac when the Spruce Goose was moved. Must’ve been the early 90’s because I saw it in Long Beach previously, then there was news of several cities/towns being considered as the next home for it. Believe it or not McMinnville won out against even big time cities like Las Vegas. The plane had to be shipped via boat - in pieces - from Long Beach to Mac. Since they used the river systems to get it there I’m sure there were pit stops along the the way. Once the pieces arrived the whole highway was shutdown and it was basically a parade with residents spectating and walking next to the very slowly moving pieces of ‘Goose. It ended up being in storage for YEARS on the opposite side of the highway from where it now sits; next to the Army National Guard Building. I believe credit went to Dell Smith (of Evergreen) for providing the financial backing/winning the bid. Appreciate the video! Funny how a town kids clamor to get out of post HS ends up being a pretty great place once you’re old enough to appreciate it (plus, growth and local industries taking a National stage).

    Simply a lovely down to earth city, with lots of folks that are helpful with directions given to a stranger in their city. Yes, Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose is located in this charming quaint city . Sounds like their power company charges less than EWEB, or other Oregon based utilities . Each time I visited this hidden gem, I was always greeted by some of the nicest folks in the northwest, really reminded me of another pearl located in Oregon, a city called SISTERS . Although opposite locations lots of kind, warm, chatty, meet no strangers, in this city of Sisters, be it buying or renting property values here are not for the faith at heart. Visit either or both, it's an excursion likely not ever forgotten in a lifetime 🇺🇸🔹️

      I also had a very positive impression of McMinnville. I'll have to visit Sisters sometime. I live in Western Washington, and I always feel like I talk to more people over a weekend in Oregon or Eastern Washington than I do in a month at home. The culture is much more open to conversation.

    We have some cool places. Airport park.. discovery park.. miller-woods.. we are the heart of wine in Oregon. In the United States our restaurants are considered some of the best.

      I feel like I may have driven by Miller Woods on the way into town. A lot to see in the area, and I do like the amount of natural space -- that stuff cannot be replaced once sprawl sets in.

    I live in Oregon and it's a good town to live in not much happens but it's a good place if you want a quiet peaceful town but it did have a parade a bit ago not sure if it happened this year but it's a nice town.

    • @adame-hwilson150
      @adame-hwilson150  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I do think travelers sometimes forget the difference between visiting a smaller city and living there. Sometimes you visit and you like all the restaurants or parks, and think , this is the best. But really there are five restaurants and three parks, so if you live there, it may be nice, but definitely not exciting.

    Mac is neat but getting expensive. All the great places are getting forced off 3rd. It's still charming, but the locals are getting priced out.

      Yeah, that is the real bummer of the PNW right now. I don't know about McMinnville, but lot of places that had their own home-grown charm are becoming playgrounds for the Portland/Seattle crowds. The result is locals get priced out and lose control of their own communities. Hope McMinnville figures out how to stay true to itself.
