For the Vietnam special the crew had to focus a lot more on the three as people, not on the journey per se. Bolivia was a genuinely dangerous trip. The Campioni del Muerti, altitude sickness. Plus stuff behind the scenes, like the drug lord who threatened to kill them and Hammond getting bit by what they first thought was a Wandering Spider, which is deadly.
I'm not surprised Botswana is number 1. I always come back to that video because they all seemed like they were genuinely having fun. Beautiful lands, people and wildlife, and the humor they brought to that special was second to none.
They'll need some very beefy cars for the Amazon, the roads there are terrible. But I think a challenge going from Manaus to the city of São Luís (where the Amazon more or less ends) would indeed be very cool. An Outback journey would be awesome too.
My favorite has to be Vietnam and the Bolivia specials. Being from South America(Peru), it’s nice to see us get painted in a positive light. And then seeing Jeremy fall in love with biking and then going back to hating it as soon as he fell off is so memorable.
I would love them to do a special in New England. For those who don’t know New England is beautiful and has a very different type of people then the ones they ran into down south
The specials from both shows that were set in Africa have all been breathtaking - Mozambique, Botswana, Madagascar, Namibia and of course, the Africa special.
Everyone seems to forget the Nile (Africa) special but it's probably my favourite. I also liked the middle east special because it did genuinely seem like they were in danger at some points.

Mongolia, Colombia, Burma, Africa and India are all brilliant. I think it's impossible to pick just a top 5 though because Patagonia, Bolivia, Vietnam, Botswana and North Pole are all brilliant too.
I think that clip from Alabama shows the difference between then and now. If they tried something like that today, they would have pre-arranged it all, there would be 20 perfectly lined up camera shots and multiple rehearsed jokes and it would all feel completely fake. Whereas back then it's all very messy, they seemed to miss half of what was going on as the pickups arrived and there's a late cut to the angry woman, then they had shots of the camera man running away with cuts to black with the audio from the radios and it all felt very real. Even if there is a chance it was faked. But today, everything on The Grand Tour is contrived, preplanned, rehearsed and not natural. As if they are worried if they didn't write it in advance then nothing interesting would happen.
I don't think *literally* everything on The Grand Tour's completely fake. Maybe the majority of that show's material, sure but I'm pretty sure not all of it.
Yeah he's right and it's a good observation. Botswana was the trip that launched Top Gear into the stratosphere, at least in terms of specials. I remember people IRL talking about it
It’d be hard for me to pick a top 5 road trip episode, don’t even know where to begin with all episodes, but one of my favorites is when they try to find the perfect road with Jeremy in a gallardo, Richard in a gt3, and James in a racing vantage. It has great scenery of France and Italy with great banter and problems without seeming completely scripted like some others, also it was the first time watching top gear so that episode stuck with me.
Hammond has started listening to the Hu, the Mongolian rock band This video comes out right before they go on tour with Sabaton and Lordi Rock on Hamster!
The Patagonia Special has to be my favourite and I’m surprised it’s not Hammond either as he loves muscle and in that special he drove a mustang the scenery was amazing and then in the end he got chased by the gang out of the country such an amazing special with amazing cars and comedy

I see Richard has gone for the Tony Stark look lol
I miss the old grand tour/top gear formst but I still love these 3.
Yeah he's right and it's a good observation. Botswana was the trip that launched Top Gear into the stratosphere, at least in terms of specials. I remember people IRL talking about it
I love watching British Tony Stark
the fact that the thumbnail references the bottom gear meme is great
"Had a bit of Oliver about it" LOL
Seeing Hammond mention the Hu is awesome
Mongolia is imo the best special these three guys have ever done. "John! What a machine you are!"
My favorite was the Bolivia 4x4 special and my second favorite is the Vietnam on the mopeds
Next time take a Jesskoen on the road trip, HAAMMMOOOOOOOONNNDDD!!!!!!!!!!!
My fav. is Madagascar-Reunion
Hammond has started listening to the Hu, the Mongolian rock band
This video comes out right before they go on tour with Sabaton and Lordi
Rock on Hamster!
Yay Richard American Hammond! 😊😊😊
That laugh from the person filming at 4:40 😂
Hamster going full-on with the Robert Downey Jr. vibes
The Patagonia Special has to be my favourite and I’m surprised it’s not Hammond either as he loves muscle and in that special he drove a mustang the scenery was amazing and then in the end he got chased by the gang out of the country such an amazing special with amazing cars and comedy
I loved this especially how you showed the clips he was talking about
I wish, especially now during the covid lockdown and local english scenery, to have some cheap car challenges back. Those 1500 pound porsche, coupe etc. challenges were nice. Just rewatched yesterday the old italian supercar episode where they get cheap old supercars that ofc break down.
3:50 it still takes me by surprise when I hear Richard Hammond say my name
The Africa special is one of my favourite pieces of tv ever
im shocked he didn't say the one where they had to be escorted out of a country while people though rocks at them sine someone got offended by a licence plate. i forgot the name of the episode but it was one of my favourite ones since you got to see the crew and what the crew had to deal with
