My car's hood was not opening since like 1 year ago. I was about to try this to open it manually, and it comes out that it was actually in this mode, so I just returned it to the other mode and it finally opened with the button! Thank you so much lol I don't know who changed it to the manual mode but now it works automatically
hi, ive always wanted to ask this. my motor broke. too much rain over here.. so i tried and follow all the steps you did but for some reason my top is resisting the pull. is there a reason behind this? i dont wanna brake the roof or something. i need your suggestion for this. thank you.
what would the problem be if even turning that lil red Handel the top seens to be stuck? it does disengage with the switch but after that its just impossible to push it back (down)
Is there any reason when you press the button to lower the top and it doesn't go down besides a blown motor? Like is there a lock that makes the convertible light blink red?
Can you reengage the release latch. I pulled it and the roof is good for Manuel function but I here my motor working again but the roof will not engage to the motor again. Is there a way to undo the red latch release to see if the top works with the motor again?
twisted the red ring pull in the boot by 90 degrees but still can't get the roof fully open, just the first 20% I'd say - any suggestions. Thanks for the videos...really helpful.
I checked my car switches and fuses and motor pretty much everything and still not working what can it be? Seems like the lower button doesn't send signal to the motor
I did everything like you said but my roof goes down only half way ... I'm afraid to put force to it... I don't want to break it... how come it didn't go fully down like in you video??m
I agreed with the previous comment on the instructions of how to open the roof top manually, but it did not work. It only bearly open halfway. Why is it like that? Is there also another way to open the roof top???
Pulling out and rotating the red lever in the boot sometimes is not enough, it may need someone to hold it pulled out while you open or close the roof manually. Remember when closing the roof manually to press the release button between the seats. If youre closing the roof you may need to wind the latches close with an allen key. You will find the correct allen key in your z4 toolkit. I reiterate - holding the red lever fully out (dont pull too hard, just enough so it releases the hydrolic pressure) is sometimes the only way to overcome the hydrolic pressure preventing you from opening or closing the roof manually. This may need another person to hold as you cant pull the red lever fully out at the same time as moving the hood.
I'm 3 years late but hope you find this useful - once it clicks, when you put down the roof manually, just press the close button and then manually drag it back up again.

I have an issue as well with the top not going down. I took it out of the car and it would go up but not down. not even by pulling the red leaver. I had to crack open the line on the pump that puts the top up to relieve the pressure so I could put it down. I believe the pump must have a bad valve in it not letting the pressure release in the system. my motor works fine both way's. the problem is the pump and motor comes as a unit.

Hello Spencer! I have accidentally pulled out the red handle and, after putting it back in its place, the roof isn't working anymore. With the red handle out, i can move the soft top manually but, with the red handle in, the roof doesn't move although both the latch and hydraulic motors are moving (i can hear their specific noises). Do you think it's possible that the red handle didn't do its job to reactivate the pump? Do you have any advice for this situation? Thanks a lot! (2007 Z4 2.0i 125k)
A few steps in the process were left out in this video. Once you have opened the top you will notice that light is still flashing. You have to go back into the car and press the open button again until the light stops flashing. This closes the latches on front of the top. When raising the top back you have to press the close button top open the latches and then lift the top back to the closed position. This is very difficult to do by yourself and really should be done by two people to keep from damaging the top. Once the top is back in place and the latches are partially inside the openings at the top of the windshield you will go back in the car and will notice that the light is still flashing. Press the close button until the light stops flashing and the top is completely seated to the windshield.

Yes!!! I just fixed my issue! Actually I just turned both knobs on each side of the red thing. It's the black thing

Javier M Linares it was just jammed up, we had to take the roof off whole and put a new motor in, after which it was fine.

Wont open on the motor unless you put the inner boot shelf to the correct lowerd position ..which in this video it is not in the correct position .
