I just found out. Don't use wireless charging for folds. The heat softens the inner glue and gets stuck in the hinges. I have never used wireless charging and never had this problem, but for the last two days I left my phone on W.charge overnight and today I can't open my phone completely. Poor design by Samsung.

Same! I moved from NJ to Florida. The heat is the start of a big chain reaction.
1. Glue gets loose.. 2. The thin plastic strips connected to the glue in the hinges slide out.. 3. The hinge stops opening all the way... 4. Leaving the phone open now causes the screen protector crease to bubble up...
My carrier sent a brand new Fold 4 afterwards, and then I’m now going through the same thing all over again as we speak!

I think its the new hinge design. My fold 2 and 3 never had this problem. My fold 4 is only 2 months old and I feel like it's been like this since opened the box. I haven't drop any of my folds.
had the issue on fold 2 and fold 4. the brushes meant to keep debris out get loose and get pulled into the hinge mechanism. I think both of my issues happened on hot days in my pocket the glue keeping the brushes in place got a little soft and it was easy for it to shift ever so slightly and then it was all over

On the screen side, there is a thick thread (protected by a thin plastic film) that runs along the crack. That thread, glue, and plastic film was becoming dislodged into the folding area of the phone. I took a post-it note folded in half and ran it along the crack to clean out all that I could. For me, the film and thread came out and now my phone folds all the way. This didn't do anything to the front screen.

This helped me understand what I needed to do. It is wasn't a pretty job, but I chose to deal with some cosmetic issues but the end rather than take my phone apart. I got in to the hinge and slowly took out the thread and glue. The film is still somewhere in there but my phone folds flat for now.

@@ragingcowunfortunately it was a temporary fix. The issue came back later, and I was stuck at like 178 degrees, not full flat open. The screen also dis crap out on me so I bit the bullet and paid for the replacement
One of your other videos mentioned a small plastic film stuck in the hinge. I totally found that on mine. Started checking the hinge and running a nail under it and a film cover piece that was really thin was in the hinge and I was able to pull it out. The outside screen side apparently had it too. I cleaned the back with some alcohol and if I work the hinge I find adhesives coming out from under the hinge.
Thats what im going through right now. Fount a little adhesive strip srip stuck so grabbed it and pulled it out. Unfortunately there must be more in there because the hinge wont fully close. I didnt cause it it just randomly happened
Just happened to me. Pulled it out, confused as to how it even got there. Thought that would make it better, but it made things worse.
I think once that adhesive comes out, it's sticky and attracts more dirt inside. I keep seeing the residue on the side so I can only imagine the dirt and lint inside it.
That's why I wonder if you are not supposed to remove that plastic film - its probably there to protect against dust collection

I just noticed it on mine last week. It's never been dropped. I've never been so careful with a phone until I got this one. It's annoying and I'm wondering if I want to get another Fold after this.
Same with me. And the worst thing is samsung warranty doesn't cover the hinge. Good thing I had samsung care. But I'm going to end up switching to a new phone soon. Horrible warranty on a defect that clearly wasn't my fault
@Emanuel Carmona Mine started this a few weeks ago. Samsung said the issue isn't covered under warranty unless it gets worse. Its obviously a defect. My network carrier said they'll fix it but I'm gonna trade it in for the iPhone 15 Pro max when it's released.
@fifiandmax Not good enough. I've now exchanged mine for the iPhone 14 Pro max. Couldn't be bothered with the fold. The tech still isn't advanced enough and there's too many issues.
Im in the same boat now. Gutted to be honest. Love the phone but with a big bend in the screen its hard to stay in love with it. Such a shame its not covered when clearly its a build issue.
@@paul68clarke I took mine to Samsung experience store. First they said it needed repaired and they had the parts then when I took it back a week later they told me it doesn’t fall within Samsungs criteria to be fixed under warranty. Absolute joke. I’ve since traded it in and gone with the iPhone 14 pro max. Best decision I’ve made.
I just cleaned my fold 4 on the hinge part with water and a small paper it's complete flat again ! And no damage.. it works complete like new again.

Whatever you do do not put a piece of paper in there because small pieces of it will get stuck more and make the problem worse. That's what happened to me. If you have to take it to Samsung to clean it up then do so but I am pretty pissed now because a small problem is turned into a big problem

I’m a tech and these phones are ridiculously delicate. The parts are expensive and the repair you need to be very careful. It’s like carrying a glass phone, don’t drop them because something might break the first time unlike other phones.
Did not drop mine. But I noticed that down the middle, the gap between the hinge and the body of the phone bent. Tried the paper trick and it wouldn't pass through the middle. Haven't placed anything on top of it or dropped it. Could be a result of the thinner design with the thinner aluminium frame close to the hinge
I traded my galaxy 2 fold (with bending problem) and got fold 4. Now fold 4 has bending problem after drop.
The screen broke down the seam on my first one. The one they sent me to replace it (refurbished) had that curve in it. Now it has a cracked down the seam. Sending it back again for another one. Hopefully, 3rd times a charm
I have the z fold 4 I've never dropped it but it doesn't unfold completely flat it's only noticeable when you put something flat on the screen you can see it's more at a 178 degree angle instead of fully flat 180 and u can bend the phone a bit and feel it pushing back like it doesn't wanna go completely flat my guess is because of the bristles maybe being a bit to long and pushing back on it
Mine is the same. Was like that since new. My Fold 3 actually opens slightly flatter then my Fold 4. I also like the feel better of my Fold 3. Opens nice and smooth. My Fold 4 is stiff and doesn't open as smoothly. Maybe this will change over time. Other than that, no issues at all.
Only zfold 4 has this issue within few months zfold 3 lasted me over a year open flat the issue with this zfold 4 is not the hinge AS Everione is mentioning is the SCREEN it self big problem for Samsung but they won't take responsibility for this defective screen .
In my situation water helped me. I was closing and opening under water 💪🏻
When I got the fold 4 new I had to go back and get a replacement that same day 😂 Hinge popped out. No drops or anything
I think it is the case that came with pre order. It has a inner black band that wears out in a hot city like tx, and they have glue inside the case that melts and gets inside the hinge. That is probably what is causing it. Either the btoken pieces of black band or the glue.
I has same issue melt glue off samsung own brand black glue stuck and i remove with paper but still can't open all the way take in to the samesung let see if they fixed.
@@ronak1210 mine was good after I used a plastic sheet of salonpas to clean the hinge. Was able to trade in for s23 ultra. Compared to note 10 days, s23 ultra hand hold is amazing and flat screen as well.
The fact that it still works at all is a blessing but regardless, I'd be mighty gentle with it. September 2023 is a long way off.

Well to be honest i used your method but i also put some benzin(petrol) yes after turning off phone and started opening and closing also half side opening and closing even my neighbor thought i was mustrubating in my balcony 😅😅😅 but it worked in the end i took a small piece of paper and moved through both sides that helped a lot also be careful with paper you dont want paper instead of dust stuck inside

I had it happen to me. Samsung gave me a crap story saying the hing was bent and they could fix it for $500, so i just did an insurance claim with T- Mobile $199 they sent me a brand new one.
Mines doing this now sad only had it for several months
Having a really hard time getting any help out of Samsung with this. Their local repair centers don't stock the parts and Samsung's request repair portion of the site just links over to Care + who doesn't want to do anything because it's still under manufacturer warranty. I've heard Samsung's RMA process was shitty and they're definitely living up to that. For a $2400 device this is an absolute pisser.
I went to two Samsung Points today. They did not want to accept it for a warranty repair and asked me 685 euros!!! The screen is not broken, just the pone stopped folding right.. This is crazy. Never again Fold by Samsung.
Really need to boycott all Samsung products. This has happened to me. Not including my first phone screen broke within 60 days they still wouldnt replace without me paying. Now my second one is doing this.

To make matters worse, the in store support for Samsung is just as terrible as online support. They mail you a box and you wait 2 weeks without a phone!!! I am ditching Samsung after this 😂

I bought my phone outside the country. samsung refuses to fix it since they won't deal with phones purchased abroad. they also have a law in place that forbids any 3d party company to repair the phone. Never again samsung
Mine not fully opening suddenly after 8 months ,no drops ,nothing ,Samsung did not accept the Global warranty I have in my country and they asks for 525 usd to fix . Not recommended phones
you know this phone would be excellent for my business. However, I just do not trust the longevity and construction of this device to make it for 24 months, which is usually the time between my upgrades as much as this phone would be in and out of my pocket, there’s just no way I would trust this device.
My first Fold 4 got stuck on loop. They sent me to a place out of town n the computers were down so I had to go back. Stuck around that town all day n went to get it and they couldn't figure out the problem. Sent it in n got a replacement ,in which I lost most of my data. This new one doesn't open all the way. I haven't dropped it. The other one wasn't like that.

As much as I want to try a foldable, I’ve just seen too many issues w the Fold 4 for comfort. While the crease doesn’t necessarily hurt usability, I think how deep it is on the Galaxy’s reduces durability bc of how it stresses the ultra thin glass causing cracks for some people. I really haven’t seen the same issues for other foldables so far

I feel exactly the same. Really want that screen but it's not worth dropping nearly 2k for all these issues
My only issue with the fold 4, daily driver caseless since september is this, it does not fold flat anymore. Not a deal breaker for me
The fold 4 will be last fold for me. My hinge needs to be repair and it cost 600. Until the hinge gets better no more fold phone.😢
This is what happened to my fold 2, I was able to trade in for the s22 ultra
Its a heating issue, if the device gets fo hot the glue etc in the hinge creates a build up and so on and so on. I took mine out my pocket and it was hot then wokldmt open all the way.
You just suggested insurance fraud. If you don't have insurance and get it after the phone is damaged, that's fraud.
Hi Sir. I had this issue and gave it to Samsung after sale service. They told me to that it is going to be replaced and for that i need to wait like 14 days. So still waiting for their confirmation. Lets see what happens.
Inlove my fold. But it randomly started being chunky all of a sudden. Not sure why.
But what is found weird was there was some sort of plastic gue type thing that came out i saw it couple or weeks back coming out i thought maybe something went inside didn't care much today it got me worried what it could be
Apparently the Pixel Fold is now borrowing this design... Such a strange design choice.
The fold series is the cheapest garbage ive ever been apart of. 3 devices in a row with minimal to no spec bumps. Self cleaning hinge they advertised didnt work as advertised. But my issues personally:
1. My Z fold 2 one day decided the internal antennae was going to just stop working. No service. Samsung allowed me to trade it in for the 3 at full trade in value due to no screen issue and them not checking signals.
2. My z fold 3 arrives and within a week the inner display straight up went black on one half. No drops. Samsung acknowledged the defect. I get the phone back cool.
3. Last week i noticed a pitch black circle in the lower left quadrant of my display. A circle of pixels simply d*ed. My screen looks like i have 2 hole punch cameras. No external crack, no drop, and its the exact same size as the camera.
If im going to deal with crummy devices that struggle to survive a year I'd rather just have an iphone. At least ill get facetime. And with my steamdeck its not like I emulate games on my phone anymore. The only thing ill miss is lucky patcher and in app purchase cracking for the apps my daughter play since these apps attempting to charge 5 bucks per letter in an alphabet game. Ill also miss the dedicated kids mode. Im waiting until the phone completely gives or next wave of phones. If im not blown away by the s series (because it took the place of the note) im walking away. Do better samsung. Youve become hot GARBAGE

Had this issue on my Fold 2. Am surprised it is still happening on the Fold 4.
Sent it to Samsung and they lost the phone. Used the refund to buy my fold 4 which is ok for now.

I had the exact same issue. Adhesive started peeling underneath the inner screen and leaking out of the hinge side. Care+ was no help, and I finally paid the T-Mobile deductible for a replacement.
I've never dropped mine or caused any damage to it and this just spontaneously happened. Mine isn't folding 180 degrees anymore, maybe 175..but as you say I am noticing adhesive leaking out the bottom of the hinge..

Im going through that right now. Pulled a random adhesive strip sticking out of the hinge like WTF. Hinge still not closing properly

I have come to the realization that either is user error or a manufactured flaw why these z folds have issues. I think there manufacturing process is flawed and that is why these phones have so many issues.

It's not because it's been dropped it's because people have been holding it one-handed like a book and it's constant pressure on the hinge. If you have a case or one of the popsockets that allow you to have your palm flat on the back of the unit and still hold it securely then you don't have this problem. But if you have two fingers on either side of the fold and then your thumb in the middle on the hinge holding it like a book you're going to end up with this issue
I been holding my fold 3 like a book no problems here at all with it laying flat and I have cleaned out dust at all yes it's in a case with hinge protection

All Samsung Fold phone is only for testing not for commercial use. This is what I feel. When is this piece? This is only for testing not for commercial use. My folderafone is very bad. The screen is destroyed after 3 months. The fold doesn't flat anymore do not buy this phone again

Greg, you have a good number for samsung? I sent flip 3 in for repair the 2nd of this month. Got repaired the 6th and have not gotten my phone back. Keep telling me it's in QA. Told them to send me a replacement or my phone. I need help.

i stopped watching when u said dunk it in water. never suggest this to people. i dont care how liquid resist phones are they will still take on water expecially if they are damaged in any way. AIR, or ISO 99% is the way todo it! besides that good tips!
So I understand in reactions that the protective film gets stuck inside? I have a fold5 and Samsung didnt apply a protector there on the side of the hinge for the first time. Also no frontscreen protector btw. And yes, mine was sealed.
Love my Fold4 and don't notice this issue.

Since nobody seems to be talking about it... you do repeadted folds to clean out the hinge and tadah it becomes flatter

@AlanGobetti I have done it before and it seems to. I think it's only worth doing if you want to use it flat at the time. Otherwise you are wearing it out

Iv tried it with no success. Common sense tells you of course some dust will fall out. BUT dust actually caught in the hinge is getting squashed into the hinge everytime you open it. So in fact opening and closing it more and more is actually just compressing the dust more and more into the hinge.
Any updates with crunch noise?

My z fold 3 doesn't completely unfold flat. I have "never" dropped or stressed the phone in any mechanical way. I mean the phone doesn open almost fully,but a small 1-2° fold is still there and I'm still in warranty. Do I need to go visit the service centre to get it fixed?

That is not true. I have never dropped my phone at all. And Samsung confirmed as much. The case that came with the phone does not have a cover over the hinge. The phone is kind of just a piece of shit I guess. There are tons of cases of the hinge not laying flat.

Fold 4 owner here. I can say with complete certainty that I'll never buy another piece a junk foldable phone again. After just 2 weeks of owning the phone it makes a really loud crackling sound upon opening and it doesn't even fold flat anymore. I used to be able to force it flat but not anymore. Because of this I can now see the crease even when looking at it head on. I regret this purchase and could never sell the damn thing with it sounding the way it does when opening to main display. Maybe it'll be covered under warranty like I've seen on reddit post but I'm not holding my breathe. No $1800 phone should feel like a cheap knock off version made by the Chinese. It's ridiculous. I've never dropped this phone nor has it ever been in an environmental where dust and debris are big factors. Hell, I rarely even put it in my pocket. I found myself carrying it by hand more than pocketing it.

This is crazy - I have never before seen such massive confusion around this "issue". I have spent several hours researching online and found hundreds of people complaining about the 178 degree issue OUT OF THE BOX. Those folks complained to Samsung, who supposedly fixed the issue. However, there are many others who report their phone lies FLAT right out of the box. BUT, when I contacted Samsung support, they said it's SUPPOSED to be 178-degrees and NOT lie fully flat/flush! WTF??

@@mrbigtymer78 everyone has their preference. And that's fine. I have anxiety everytime I open it because I am scared the screen is going to mess up. So why keep something I am not going to use as much. It is nice and good technology but for now I am happy with a boring old fashion phone .
The Z Fold 4 sucks. I had the 2, 3,4 and no improvements. I am selling my 3 and 4 as I switched to the Huawei Mate XS and X2 and they are far superior in every way.

Rolled the dice on the fold 4 after having the note 10 plus that i loved. Big disappointment! What a terrible gimmick! There is nothing on it that is worth the awful price tag. 7 months and the hinge just decided to not open all the way. I treat all my phones with the utmost care. Don't buy a fold!
