Great performance indeed , but it always puzzles me why people listening to one of the world's best brass bands decide to talk all the way through it ?
@@JamieHuntLCFC Why would I make the previous comment if I was the one jawing?????? @@herbiestrainsbands346 sorry, but it sounds like a dying crying pig. These guy are great players, but when you listen to them marching and you just listen to the screaming trombones and nothing else, it’s not with sure musical taste. Sorry I just say what my ears are listening to.
Not that many bands now wear caps in UK. When I was playing as a teenager back in 1970's, whenever we marched we wore caps but it just seemed to change. Hot and sweaty on a sunny Saturday marching at a carnival!
@@herbiestrainsbands346 That is true, But peaked caps are an essential part of a uniform, If the band wears tunics they might aswell wear hats too, look at bands in NI, Though I do understand if it's too warm
The adjudicator is in there! In each contest they will have them in different situations, some in rooms inside and I've even known a small lorry (truck!) used with the rear shutter up to let in air & sound but only raised enough so the incarcerated judge couldn't see which band was playing......... you couldn't make it up, trust me!
I wish more bands would be adventurous Alfred - KT, Ravenswood, President, Mephi - but there are so many other cracking marches out there that never see the light of day. New ones have come along such as The Wizard being re-discovered, but it's the same thing year after year sadly!!!
@@herbiestrainsbands346 Would be interesting if the organisers decided on a mix up to promote the many other excellent marches by not allowing a certain list of the usual marches to be performed one year.
Afraid so Alfred. Whilst it, and half a dozen others, are classic contest marches I certainly wish bands were more adventurous with their choices as there are so many relatively unplayed ones out there - I can think of about four more of George Allan's that would test the best, not to mention any number unknowns by Rimmer.
@@Paul09 I think you're right for general repertoire Alfred, but still think there's a huge untapped reservoir of traditional marches out there - bands & conductors need to be more adventurous!!!

Thanks for that DonyBoi. I think the problem is that the locals still support the events thru tradition but see it as the chance for a chat with friends rather than concentrate on the performances themselves. Still the best day of the year for me!!!

Totally spoiled by the chatterboxes in the audience. Why don't they piss off to the pub and take their kids with them instead of ruining the enjoyment of real brass band enthusiasts.
The problem is Andrew that the locals come out, see someone they haven't seen for a while, have a chpos and catch up, it's how it works I suppose. When you're filming there you can't escape it unfortunately and without the public there it wouldn't be the same, so 'catch 22' really!

Mark, my sentiments entirely & very frustrating!!!
Was he the one that was videoing it talking if not why didn’t he move closer to the band and use his selfie stick like he did on the March?

Old people. Making England aloof since 1872. That's the answer!

Bass Trom oh man that sound love it. If i had my way i'd have five of you across the front row with Solo written across the whole march :)
No. no, no Gareth, everything in moderation lol
what a decision of a rare intelligence to put the trombones and especially the bass trombone in the front row! it is of supreme melodious taste!
😂🙉
Be even better with a G Trombone, in the right hands, up that street though Willy!!! lol

why are they performing with their backs to the audience?
Because the adjudicator is inside the caravan so the bands play to the adjudicator, not the crowd!
