As a truck driver of 25 years, yes... but so much more. The weather has a tendency to remind us of how small we are from time to time, and during those times, we must bow to her, and adjust our plans accordingly.
My usual, riding partner has become less likely to take risks any longer on the bikes. So you inspire me and I realize I can do a trip alone with proper planning. Love your work and the production quality of your videos.
As a life long Bay Area native and frequent coast rider, you did a great job with the weather you had to work with! To bad you picked the absolute worst year for weather!! If you ever get back out here, try doing the coast at the end of September and through October. Not much fog that time of year! Grat job! Looking forward to the next one!
We have a saying in my cadre of friends, "We will ride in the rain, but we will not start out in the rain." You have proven time and time again that you are a badass. Rain, Sleet, or Snow you go. Thanks for sharing.
Retired CA state public safety after 26 years. Worked during many atmospheric rivers, El Niños, La Nñias and various droughts followed by torrential downpours over the years. Spent many hours manning road closures. Same with summer wildland fires, including thick smoke followed by rockslides/mudslides. My last CA coast ride was the middle of July 2022. Departed San Jose towards the coast on US-101, down through Castroville to Moss Landing, then up the coast on the PCH (CA-1) into SF, across the Golden Gate Bridge, back to the 101, then SR-37 inland. Spectacular. Wouldn't trade a ride like that for just about anything.
Next time in Santa Cruz, you should stop by the Recycle Motorcycle Garage. It's a great place to meet up with a diverse moto-community. They also have a podcast, 'Motorcycles and Misfits Podcast'. Thanks for sharing your journey with us
I grew up on this coast and I've driven up and down it so many times I can't count ^-^ Never as a whole thing like this, tho. So I have been under an atmospheric river more than a few times. Glad you were able to make it to Santa Cruz! Sorry it was so wet ^-^ But after several years of way below average rain, we needed time to store some up. The highway by my neighborhood is still missing a big chunk (and consequently has a one-lane light) as we're still digging out from under those storms! A couple of those storms near the end dropped snow on us and the beach. Very surprising to ride around a hill and hey, snow! in the Santa Cruz Mountains ^-^;
I really enjoy your videos. There is one aspect, however, that I didn't realize I enjoyed until I thought about it. That is...the food. Amanda, you eat some awesome food. I know the feeling of riding all day, sometimes in challenging conditions. There's nothing like great food to counter whatever a long day on the road throws at you. Thanks for taking me along.
Never know what your gonna hit on the PCH. I rode it from Canada thru Seattle to San Fran. In august, was so hot when I left. Then hit 3 deg weather on the coast fog and wet. . I had to ride inland for heat! Warmed up considerably. The ride home was epic. Nothing but sun and warmth. Lovely rode.
I had planned to ride down to Southern California for my sisters wedding in April, and ride back home on the 1. With all the rain, snow, and 1 being closed i just drove down. It was a wise choice, but not as fun.
I've been trying to put words together in an order and way that adequately represents the feeling that your content gives me. I've worn out my backspace key so this compliment will have to do. You truly are the best storyteller on the tube. Keep that beautiful smile on and keep rocking out these amazing videos. ❤
Love the PCH! I’ve driven some and ridden some…..it’s awesome. Atmospheric river??? Hell’s ya! I got stuck in one last year during my 21 day Oregon- Washington adventure. I believe out of the 21 days….4 were dry 😅
Yes, a complete thunderstrom down pour for over an hour in Yellowstone National Park. No place to take cover. Just followed the car in front and kept the bike between the yellow and white lines.
Awesome job. I am so glad to see you making an adventure out of the journey and not simply looking for the most difficult terrain a bike could possibly handle. THIS is exactly the type of riding most could do without too much of a barrier and you are making it seem even more accessible with vids like this. Thank you.
I got stuck in Bodega Bay quite a while back when an atmospheric river wiped out every road in and out. Got to spend a lot of time enjoying the breaks between the rain though.
Your video work just keeps getting better and better! Funny that you mentioned the rain in CA. In the the 1970’s . That was 1978., I was into long distance bicycle touring then. Myself and a companion intended to ride from LA to Eureka. There was a forecast for rain but not long term. We expected 1-3 days of rain between La and SF . It rained for 7 days straight. It didn’t stop until EL Granada. I think it was shortly after that trip I bought my first motorcycle.
Looking forward seeing the rest of the videos. PCH for me is also a route you just have to do at least once. It's a bit harder for a European to get done I guess lol. But it for sure will grant amazing sceneries, though I heard it can be sooo busy and traffic jams aren't out of the question.
End Screen Crew. No, I'm fortunate enough to not have to be anywhere so y no longer do snow, water in any form, or night. Thank you for another great video.
Man, I'm sorry the weather threw you a curve ball. This was a rough year for California rain wise, for sure! It's disappointing you didn't get to do Hwy 1 from Cambria (I love that town) to Carmel, which is arguably the quintessential section. It's been in so many commercials. The section north of SF is also awesome and really doesn't get the credit it deserves. It was super awesome they gave you a cabin upgrade. Man, slogging through rain all day only to set up camp in the rain... just... sucks. While I live probably 45 minutes from there, I'll have to take note of that place to share cuz good folks deserve a little help. End Screen Crew question response: Oh have I! I've been rained on all day in Yellowstone and caught in a white out hailstorm on UT-12. Both on the same trip! And many more over the years. Mother Nature does what Mother Nature does. I guess I just have to go back. And since I'd be in the neighborhood, ride Beartooth again. Now THERE'S a cherry on top of that dessert. 😊
I live about 30 miles east of Morrow Bay, near Hwy 101. Not only did we experience atmospheric rivers, we lived them. We had a total of 11, this past winter. They dropped over 50" of rain this winter, flooding areas like many have never seen before. And there was Amanda, riding in it, lol. Brave lady. The lane splitting is something you get used to. I do it with my Harley bagger. Ya just have to judge how wide you (your bike, not you) are and go for it. Very nive video.
Great video! Yeah a lot of our roads got beat up this year by the atmospheric rivers, some of my favorites are still ‘under construction’. Have a safe trip!
I really liked riding that part of the coast. It was november in 2020. also not super warm, but I didn't experience that sort of fog. It was for sure a late start type area, both for safety and to be able to actually see stuff. Looks like a good trip so far.
September/October is the best time of year to ride the coast. You beat the inland heat, you're generally clear of the wildfire smoke, and you're least likely to hit the fog. Plus, the roads are usually repaired from the winter storms by then.
Sorry ... but not sorry. Sorry that your trip was fraught with heavy rain showers. Not sorry since we desperately needed an epic winter to refill our appallingly depleted reservoirs. In the northern reaches of the Sierra Nevada, they haven't seen snow depths like this in over 40 years; even more historic levels in Mammoth Lakes (over 50 feet!). Hwy 1 and 101 will be there again in more normal seasons for your enjoyment. Thanks for taking us along.
hello my friend; i hope u are well. i have missed ur shining face and voice. i finally figured out where my notifications go on my new computer so i should see more of u. as usual u remain the undaunted explorer i love to follow. hugs and best wishes.
A ride in the rain is better than no ride at all. Hoping a lot of the PCH is passible for this fall. Not so much an atmospheric river, but I did spend 6 hours once riding into and thru a hurricane. Took 4 days to day out.
Man, I have never even heard of an atmospheric river before, let alone be in one. Lol. Though, watching you ride in the raid kinda makes me want to get better wet weather gear. I just have a Frogg Toggs rain suit I roll up on the back of the sporty on those days it looks like it might get wet. BUT, I have also learned that a quick spring shower is no big deal, because you will dry off in a few minutes after it ends. Lol
I've made the trip twice and still missed a lot of stuff. Did your gopro die around the 7 minute mark? I always liked the area from Malibu to about Santa Barbra and you skipped it. I know the weather wasn't cooperating too. It made me wonder when you did this trip, knowing of all the flooding in the first few months of the year. It seems, starting in Santa Monica, the cliffs fall down on the PCH and often block the road too. So, not too scenic. I've stayed in Cambria, just north of Morro Bay. And at the infamous Madonna Inn in San Luis Obisbo. One of the more relaxing moments was stopping at Carmel, getting some chilled adult beverages and walking down to the beach at Sunset. Among the things I missed are driving along the 17 miles drive at Pebble Beach and the giant sequoia. Pebble Beach can be crowded so I didn't feel bad passing on that but the trees, THAT I do want to go back to see. So I'll be looking forward to the next video with a touch of envy. My sisters family lives North of San Francisco in wine country so I know I will be back. I would like to start around Muir Beach and take it all the way to all the way around Olympic National Park. I've day tripped out to Bodega Bay which was really nice (and also where Hitchcock shot The Birds- so BE SAFE Amanda, lol). Good stuff.
Am always looking forward to your episodes about your adventures. As for atmospheric rivers... yes. I live 5 minutes walk from a big lake/river and 10 minutes ride from the North Sea. We call that normal Dutch weather 😄
What a fun bit of photo journalism, loved it. As a native Washingtonian, the first thing that came to mind was I wonder if she's going to discuss how Malibu is really not that enjoyable to ride through or is it going to be about how there's hardly a straight 100 yard stretch of road on Hwy 101 once your enter Oregon heading north. Sorry about the weather, OMGGGG...what bad timing. i'm not a fan of Adventure moto touring in the rain and do everything to avoid it.
I've never experienced one here on the east coast but I would be curious to see one in person out west! Ideally for a short bit before getting back to sunshine though!
Thanks Amanda for the great scenery and I have never experienced an atmospheric river before, I was in Ireland once and it seemed to mist all day, but that was the closest I have been to that experience, looking forward to the rest of your great trip.
Beautiful! Question: how are those boots for walking around a bit? I hail from far far Northern California coastal area!! Love the roads up here. Thanks for sharing
VERY professional production. My situational awareness drops too low in adverse weather: reduced traction, reduced visibility, dark, etc. make me leary of doing much like that. I'm glad you had the priorities right to stop when you did.
Yeah, I get that quite frequently riding home from work. You just cannot get the water off. Anyway, my main comment was that the ravioli and wine looked amazing 😍
Last week in central GA I seen a girl in traffic with a Honda Shadow fully loaded up for moto camping. I wish I coulda asker her if she was a Amada Zito fan.
Nice! You were in my hood during all the flooding! Belated welcome to Santa Cruz. Not necessarily an atmospheric river, but a full day of heavy rain, hail, and thunder & lightning from the south rim of the Grand Canyon to Kanab, UT. Once you accept the conditions, it's smooth sailing. Oh, and heated grips help! 👍🏻

Having ridden the PCH several times, really enjoyed this episode. Regarding equipment and gear, what bike mounted camera were you using; and what rain suit? Ride safe.
That wx just sux. In August of 2022 my riding partner and I rode the PCH from Santa Monica to Monterey, after having completed a Route 66 ride from Michigan. The PCH was insanely magnificent. We did not expect to have so much fun. It was a bit chilly after coming out of the desert (113f was the hottest day) however we certainly didn’t experience your conditions. We got some marine layer that rolled in and out occasionally, a low of 47 and a high of 72 that day. Some fog off and on. I hope you got some better weather and could enjoy the magnificent views.
I am doing rte 66 from the mitten this august then up to Oregon and down to San Fran to rte 30 to home but I am doing this in a ford Mustang Love watching Amanda conquering moto traveling challenges
I'm due for a Highway-1road trip again maybe this year, the Bay area traffic is getting too dangerous for motorcycles I been making some trips lately for Table Tennis training my one and only accident was in Fremont 2017.
Bummer on all the ☔️. At 11:00 there is a corkscrew orange cord on the front of your bike, as you are packing up to go. What is that? A lock system of some kind? If so, where do you run it through your bike, what what other security precautions do you take, when leaving your bike, besides taking luggage off and parking as near to you as possible? Thanks! 🏍️
Even though I'm sure that traffic was a pain, I loved seeing you in a different environment! Also haha man I need to give my vehicles serious 'spa days' too 5:54. It's so gorgeous there along the PCT though, can't wait until I eventually make it to CA in the van....but I suppose I could do without those gas prices with a 25gal tank... 😅
I have experienced a lot of different weather both on and off a motorcycle. Warm rain, not bad. Cold rain, trying to avoid hypothermia. Snow when on a motorcycle, $h!t!
#endscreencrew. I was going from central Ohio to mammoth cave in Kentucky on my 250cc. Left at 7:30am taking back roads. Encountered a lot of fog which is normal but the fog didn’t finally lift until noon. Was soaked the whole time until it went away.
As a truck driver of 25 years, yes... but so much more. The weather has a tendency to remind us of how small we are from time to time, and during those times, we must bow to her, and adjust our plans accordingly.

I'm a lifelong Bay Area native myself. Fantastic place to live if you ride, that's for sure.
We have a saying in my cadre of friends, "We will ride in the rain, but we will not start out in the rain." You have proven time and time again that you are a badass. Rain, Sleet, or Snow you go. Thanks for sharing.
Yep, we have an awesome coast line, here in California. ✌️🇺🇸
I grew up in southern California in the late 50's, 60, 70's....80's ...90's...2000's ...lol... we could tell HER some places to go...
Thank you Honda for helping Amanda out with that beautiful Africa Twin!

Amanda- You'll have to do this ride again.. PCH in Big Sur will be open again in July 2023...
My hometown highway, the most scenic sights one could see but mother earth makes you earn it 💕
Next time in Santa Cruz, you should stop by the Recycle Motorcycle Garage. It's a great place to meet up with a diverse moto-community. They also have a podcast, 'Motorcycles and Misfits Podcast'.
Thanks for sharing your journey with us
I live in the PNW so yes 😂. But I also rode into the back of the storm that destroyed Yellowstone last year during one of my Ride1kinaday runs.
I grew up on this coast and I've driven up and down it so many times I can't count ^-^ Never as a whole thing like this, tho. So I have been under an atmospheric river more than a few times.

Love your videos. Neptune's net seafood restaurant is a very popular biker spot at PCH. Malibu CA.
Absolutely love the last little cabin you stopped in.
Isn't that really all you need.
As always, great video.
I really enjoy your videos. There is one aspect, however, that I didn't realize I enjoyed until I thought about it. That is...the food. Amanda, you eat some awesome food. You do a great job with your cinematography and I really like how you have the bike set up.
Thank you very much!
Another fun video that makes us feel like we are riding along with you!!! Thanks for letting us come along, Amanda. 🙂
The return of the flying tent dance YeaY !
Great video thank you. No I'm going let you take me there. I love your videos. Thanks again cheers to ya.

We love your videos and we love Highway one. Thanks for taking us up the coast with you. If I ever get a bike I am going to name her Magpie
Yes I have, i actually got to experience that same atmospheric river further down the line and was getting snowed on.
Looking forward seeing the rest of the videos. PCH for me is also a route you just have to do at least once. It's a bit harder for a European to get done I guess lol. But it for sure will grant amazing sceneries, though I heard it can be sooo busy and traffic jams aren't out of the question.
Sacramento resident here. Lived through those "rivers"
Glad you stopped

Thanks Amanda for the great scenery and I have never experienced an atmospheric river before, I was in Ireland once and it seemed to mist all day, but that was the closest I have been to that experience, looking forward to the rest of your great trip.
Beautiful rides..thank you
Beautiful! Question: how are those boots for walking around a bit?

Thanks for sharing
VERY professional production. My situational awareness drops too low in adverse weather: reduced traction, reduced visibility, dark, etc. make me leary of doing much like that. I'm glad you had the priorities right to stop when you did.
Great one Amanda, looking forward to the rest of the tripp. Keep up the great work! Love from Norway.
This was beautiful!! Thank U 🏍️🤙🏻
amanda is cool!
you drove right by me in pismo beach.
She is bada**! I love her videos too, you can tell she is a very down to earth, good person.
I wish you had stopped in Hollister.
I own Johnny's, the historic biker bar there and you could have stayed in the guest room at my house 😊
Thoroughly enjoyable as always. Do you listen to music at when you ride? A little seat dancing there near the beginning 😂
You are such a inspiration to us all 😎
This is some great camera work. Beautiful scenery.
I've never experienced an atmospheric river but our last moto camp trip, we rode there in the rain, set up in the rain, hung out in the rain, and rode home in the rain for 3 days of straight sogginess. That's the closest I'd say I've been and honestly the closest I hope to be.
No to the gripper. That sounds crazy!
I'm such a fare weather rider. This section of the west coast is such an epic ride in nice weather but in the rain and fog it looks pretty miserable.
That looks like a great trip, I'm hoping to do it myself this year.
Would love to do that ride. Hope the weather got better.
I am doing rte 66 from the mitten this august then up to Oregon and down to San Fran to rte 30 to home but I am doing this in a ford Mustang
Love watching Amanda conquering moto traveling challenges
In Florida we have the liquid air. Humidity is all summer long.
I'm due for a Highway-1road trip again maybe this year, the Bay area traffic is getting too dangerous for motorcycles I been making some trips lately for Table Tennis training my one and only accident was in Fremont 2017.
Like that Hi-Viz raingear!
I been to cali a lot but hwy 1 on two wheels is on my list - they have a motorcycle winery I believe
Thanks! 🏍️
I haven’t experienced an atmospheric river, but I have ridden into an unexpected fog bank, which was a little scary.
Just do the thing !
More than once. Riding to the Giant Loop ride Last year I got socked royally.
Yes but in the central south (Texas,Arkansas and Oklahoma area) we call it flooding! 😜 REALLY BAD flooding!
🤣
I have experienced a lot of different weather both on and off a motorcycle. Warm rain, not bad. Cold rain, trying to avoid hypothermia. Snow when on a motorcycle, $h!t!
Yes! I live in Oregon!
I like your vidéos 😍🇫🇷
So brave to do that in the rain. I have exactly the same bike btw :)
#endscreencrew. I was going from central Ohio to mammoth cave in Kentucky on my 250cc. Left at 7:30am taking back roads. Encountered a lot of fog which is normal but the fog didn’t finally lift until noon. Was soaked the whole time until it went away.
i like your Mantra "Get out and do the thing" ya I get that... but not in an atmospheric river. That sucks.
Where is the next video in the series? Am I dumb? Lol! I’m trying to find it but what links is a road trip with your brother.
If you navigate to the channel/videos it's the newest video 👍
Not an atmospheric river that I know of. But I’ve been in some real soakers for multiple days in a row.
Love vidéo beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
the PCH got really beat up lately. the area through big sir has been completely shut down for weeks.
Happy to see a video. No Gary?
Gary will be in the next series I promise lol 😆
I don't believe I've experienced an AR, regular heavy rain is bad enough when traveling.
I'm a cheater as I usually go different direction with the forecast like that ;)
I’ve never heard the term atmospheric river until this video. What work was done at Honda America?
Regular ol oil change
what is it like editing the insta360 video? Do you use a normal laptop? Does it take a lot of computing power, or a lot of time?
i see you have a gaming style laptop likely with a dedicated gpu. That must help a lot
I'm in Louisiana so this weather is normal......
🤣 normal is relative to where you're from. For me Louisiana is very very humid lol
Who is bike lover
People do this ride on bicycle …if they can ,so can you!
