About Peter Dinklage's point. Dwarves/dwarfs are a different race than humans with dwarfism. "Dwarf" has its roots in the old Germanic languages meaning 'spirit.' They were spirits that existed in the mountains and ground that over time developed the mythology of riches and crafts. Dwarfism is named after these mythological races of beings. The mythological beings are not named after humans with dwarfism.
Fun fact: Walt Disney wanted to alter the tale of Snow White in order to portray his own vision for how Americans to portray. Snow White wasn't a cleaner in the original tale, and she didn't wake up by true loves kiss in the original tale. One of the dwarves dropped the coffin and Snow White was jolted out, dislodging the poisoned apple from her throat which made her wake up. According to an article by J. Zippes, these were deliberate decisions by Disney himself to legit influence the behavior of American audiences (as men who save the day, and women being passive housewives). People mistook those decisions for mixing up story beats with Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty - which also had decisions made to alter the story to his vision. Kinda weird considering that Walt Disney had plans to become a huge cultural influence from so early on.
Hey guys i love hanging out during these discussions! Also, surprised you didn't mention the Snow White and the Huntsman. Anyway, here's some hate to feed you Daniel :)
So fun fact. As iconic as this movie is, the actress playing Snow White, Adriana Caselotti barely worked after it and when she did she was uncredited. Apparently Disney didn’t want the voice of snow white to be in other movies because he didn’t want to spoil the illusion or something.
I loved watching Snow White as a child with my mom so the other day I decided to watch it with my kids and all I could keep thinking was where the hell is her nose? And my husband kept laughing at me 🤷🏻♀️😂
Nice review. And Daniel, I so agree with you that some classics, while we should respect what they did at the time, feel subpar compared to more modern masterpieces. Perhaps we should have top 100 style lists that are top 100 even in *the current year*, that disregard who did what first. And then have separate lists appreciating the work and achievements of old classics...
Would you consider discussing Robert Wise's The Haunting (1963)? Also a pretty influential/revolutionary horror movie. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
I wouldn't mind seeing Snow White getting some treatment from A24, maybe get someone like David Lowery to do it. But yeah, I wouldn't remake this film as a live action movie. Kind of takes the magic of animation out of it.
This whole “old movies were good & innovative but still didn’t know what they were doing” take is kinda vomit inducing. These films don’t hold up 80s+ years later without being really special. The “good for its time” critique is ridiculous and holds no water. We are at the point now with movies were most anything can be done and most movies are boring and lazy as hell. In the early days it’s was new and fresh and artists had to be creative and clever. Okay, that’s my rant.
So you don't like Snow White and still chose it over M*A*S*H*? Hopefully my persistence will wear you down. If not, I'll still keep watching all your videos and commenting so they perform in the algorithm.

I mean Dwarfs are mythical creatures in Germanic and Norse myth. They aren't meant to be short human beings.
Exactly, how do they not know it?

none of what you said sound bad
The Little Mermaid was Hans Christian Anderson, not the Brothers Grimm.
Andersen, Danish patronymics end in "sen".
Haha “it’s not super revolutionary” then goes on to describe all the ways it was revolutionary 😆
I CAN-NOT-WAIT for you guys to do 'Amadeus'
and
'the gold rush'

Probably my all time favorite Disney film.
When I was 3 or 4 I watched this movie at least twice a week. I loved it then and I love it now. Nostalgia Can't be underestimated

How do theses discussions not get more views

Everyone admires this movie. Very few people enjoy it.
Ben’s editing is fantastic

I don't know about remakes, but retelling... I do enjoy Once Upon a Time
once upon a time is a classic
I thought the dwarfs were based of the Norse mythology.
“So many things I wanna say that I can’t say”
But say it, you coward.
Do you announce these ahead of time? Like on Twitter maybe? It would be great if you did, that way we could watch along.
