I just blundered this endgame with the same stalemate you showed, having the queen too close. If only I’d seen this sooner! Great instructive video, thank you.
This analogy is very good / easy to recall. Many thanks 😊 I would encourage even more use of the arrows to illustrate why some moves / positions are “no good” 👍
This is a very good intro to this ending, but I believe the algorithm presented is incomplete. In particular, black does not have to voluntarily give up the third rank defense as presented. There is a whole additional algorithm that is necessary.
Jesse thank you so much. Very practical mnemonic device for remembering what to do in this ending. Very useful and practical. I enjoy your videos a lot! 💪💪💪
5:39 black king should take closest space to queen whenever it can, h4 in this situation. It wouldn't allow white to take Third Rank. Only way to take it, is when rook is one line from queen and it means whenever king take the same line as queen rook takes the queen and we have draw. 5:50 is a mistake again - rook shouldn't leave Third Rank if it has space to move on it - king cannot control 4 squares on third rank. The method is only good when opponent makes mistakes.
Really nice technique, thanks a lot for the thorough explanation! Quick question: on the Dojo program, at which level would this be a sparring position?

I actually made a full tutorial for this endgame. Pretty much how to win against anyone, any computer, or the tablebase, as long as the position is winning.
I wish you would have demonstrated the method from a fairly disadvantageous starting position and go through the entire process from start to end. What you present is too disjointed. You say, "Don't get the queen too close" but in many of your examples the queen *does* get close. I remember learning the checkmate with a bishop and knight as a very methodical method. I wish there was something similarly presented for the queen vs rook.
Just got this endgame for the first time in a longer game. Had no idea what I was looking at and was not even totally sure that it was winning. Hung stalemate but the guy didn't see it. Now I have some ideas what's going on for next time.
Watched two other videos that helped but man, the mnemonic with the jab and the requisite pattern sticks. That’s kind of punny because that’s what a jab does, it STICKS (badum tsss)
Hello Nepo! I know you’re reading this.
🤧🤣🤣🤣🤧
That's really something , loved your simple Jab method .
I think you were inspired by lot of Queen vs Rook in the World Cup 23.
4:01 I love this idea of the jabber moving to the square the queen is looking at.
I just blundered this endgame with the same stalemate you showed, having the queen too close. If only I’d seen this sooner! Great instructive video, thank you.
Excellent lesson. Thanks.
Just had Q vs R on chesstempo. I immediately saw the "Jab" so much easier to find the right move!
Thanks for this video 🎉

Hey great Video!! superb subtle music. stellar metaphor. thank you
This really helps. Thank you very much !
I am sure Nepo will watch this soon

today, this video is gonna blow up !
Thanks Jesse. 👍🏻

Great video Jesse!
Also a hook is a leading hand punch ;)
Pretty nice! Thanks!
The beauty of the rule of stalemate! It enriches the game of chess! Great video! Thank you

This is bar none the best tutorial of q vs r

It is for advanced levels above 2000
Bro that hat is fire! Thanks for the quality content on endgames. I was the Jesse before you Mr. Kraai on chess journeys
Thanks easy to get
tried this and accidentaly punched my opponent in the face
Thanks for your video! With some practice I have managed to play queen vs rook endgame.
I can do the checkmate in the corner, but I cannot always corner the opponent. Into the mating position.
Nepo couldn't win this endgame against magnus😢😢
This is such a difficult endgame
02:18 u just simple play q h2 or b8...and than qh5 or e8 and u get philidor position in 2 move so why play it in 4

And besides that you can find the elemental one's like King and Rook vs. King on thousand other TH-cam channels.
@@nobroo5264 well this is a chess development channel, yes or no?
@@nobroo5264 Does chess dojo prefer us to go to other TH-cam channels for Chess Development?
Brilliant

I lost a queen vs rook endgame too at my first tournament! Look what got recommended in my feed!

Who comes here after nepo and Magnus match
Everyone overcomplicated this video. It needs to be broken down into a 2 or 3 minute video
Common Nepo is not that hard
