I’m an OU fan who comes in peace. Much respect for your program. I personally do not like Riley’s coaching style. Can he change? Yes, and he needs to do something whether it be fire Grinch or modify his philosophy overall. I do not trust him.

Same here. I have nothing but respect for USC as a program. And I respect all these guys in the video for telling it like it is. All of us Oklahoma fans aren't saying anything different from what we were saying when he was here. And it is well documented .Just look at the comment section of Lincoln Riley press conference after the Baylor game in 2021. Lincoln Riley's defense was consistently bad .... And then his offense struggled in 2021. We wrote it off as Spencer rattler not being good enough. And then the offense struggled against Baylor and Iowa State plus struggled against Kansas.... We blame that on Caleb being a Tru freshman. The truth is that his defense was bad and then his offense was also bad at times

Appreciate you commenting here. Riley needs to scrap the Leach approach to GO5 football, figure out what real PHYSICAL football looks like, and adjust accordingly. He has ZERO future until he becomes like Whittingham in his approach to the game. And then he can learn how to manage the clock. He's woeful there.

@@brianjacob8728He’s had physical OLines though at Oklahoma right? He did run the ball there successfully and he’s put RBs and OL cats into the NFL as well. The OL here just isn’t good enough and until the season started I bet he and we all thought it would be adequate enough. When we get it going he doesn’t stick with it either.
Grinch you just CAN’T have back. Utah is not good on offense and were a patchwork team. We gave them their best performance and some of his alignments and matchups AGAIN were major issues and head scratchers.

As a former High School and NCAA D2 coach-one of the hardest things to do is to teach Defensive Ends or outside LB to stay at home and “set the edge “. Set the edge means never go deeper than the ball and stay on the outside shoulder of the offensive player in front of you. The last 2 season this very rarely happened. Always rushing deeper than the ball and drifting inside. Can’t play defense if you can’t set the edge.

I’m a Sooner fan, and I have nothing but respect for you guys. USC is a blue blood. You deserve better. We deserved better. If Lincoln wasn’t so arrogant, he could be great. But he’s losing control of his program and his surroundings. He needs help and he won’t admit it.

thx for opining and I agree with you, but Riley's issues are deeper than that. Football is a physical game. If you're going to pretend otherwise, you're not coaching the right sport. Try for women's softball. That seems to be more appropriate for Riley and Grinch.

Hate to say it, but OU fans warned us about Riley, this isn't surprising to them. The issues run to the top with Riley. I hope Jenn Cohen grabs her man balls and cleans the swamp in the football program, because Riley won't do it. Maybe, we need to hire a dedicated OC and have Riley focus on being a head coach.

Coming from a Utah fan. Pete Carroll used to practice physical af. Former players used to say practice was harder than the games itself and that’s why they were so ready come game day. Lincoln is too focused on a flash in the pan approach. USC needs to get physical and focus on that especially headed to the B1G. The skill players always will come to SC. If USC focus’ on physicality and practicing that way I think they would get back to being elite. Lincoln Riley is not the coach to do that though.

  • @alakbar7870

This loss was due to 3 primary things:
    1) Caleb Williams SELFISHLY trying to pad his stats as a PASSER after having a terrible last week at Notre Dame, and therefore NOT running / using his legs against Utah as much as he should have (including failure to convert two 2 pt conversions for 4 points total).
    2) Bryson Barnes UNSELFISHLY using his legs to hurt USC all night long (even more so than he did with his passing).
    3) Alex Grinch failing time and time again to adjust to Utah / Barnes' strategy of continuing to use his legs to hurt USC (even on that final drive).
How Riley keeps Grinch on as a defensive coordinator when he has completely failed to win against a single good team (namely Utah 3 times now because USC hasn't played Oregon or Washington yet in 2 seasons, although those games are coming up pretty soon), and just barely survives against teams that USC should be defeating comfortably, is beyond me?

USC paid for an elite coach and they are entitled to an elite coaching staff to support him. As for this year, he has an opportunity to sit Grinch after UCLA and let his D-Advisor simply things over the 3-4 weeks before whatever the bowl game (Gasparilla? Riley seems like hes afraid to open the playbook on offense.. He can't seem to get the O-line together for starters.. If Caleb is getting pressure, throw in a fullback or a blocking tight end to help.. His own offense continues to get out schemed, and is being outcoached by every team now, much like Grinch's pathetic schematics on Defense! Just horrific! This team has plenty of playmakers and talent, but Riley seems completely discombobulated on how to call a game.. This isn't all on the players, this mess mostly falls strictly on these incompetent coaches! This is utterly embarrassing now and could get much worse if he doesn't figure out something now!

I think some people, myself included, began having doubts about Riley when he made the decision to bring Grinch. Ok you'd give it a chance because Riley had shown himself to be a great QB-passing game coach, he wasn't Helton, and the early returns on Riley-Caleb duo were terrific. They weren't a great "team" last season because of personnel deficiencies, and you saw the same BS from Grinch that we saw in Norman, and the defense completely fell apart at the end of last season. Fast forward a year. Your Heisman winning QB is still here, but he and Riley's offense isn't as good, and the awful defense remains despite the influx of better talent. The program has a head coaching issue now, just as it has since Pete left. Same brand of football with more attractive packaging.

Everyone says without Caleb, the team would be hurting even more. I believe it’s the opposite. We would be running more which we need to do. Caleb and Riley were out to win the second Heisman. The team came second. They wanted the razzle dazzle of running around the pocket with those great last second throws. It worked last year, but the competions defense knows about that now. He holds on to the ball and gets creamed. Riley and Caleb are buddies instead of Coach/player. After three interceptions, the back up, Moss should have come in. He’s no slouch. I just don’t like it. How many times did the play clock come down to 1 second before the ball was hiked. Times to do that, but not all the time. I just don’t like it. How many Carrie’s did Marshon L (spelling) get in the game. Look how Arizona ran the ball with Scaterbo (spelling). Play after play after play. Run the ball stupid. When the defense is expecting run after run it opens up receivers down field. I thought the Helton years were gone. Coaching. It’s all about Riley and Williams. How’s that working out now?

    • @brianjacob8728
      @brianjacob8728 ปีที่แล้ว

Actually agree. Playing moss would force Riley to run a more balance offense and he's have to set up his passing game off of the run, which it should have been all along. But Riley would have to run physical practices to get this offensive line to jell and that's not happening now. Riley created this mess with his wrong approach to the game. If he's serious about restoring his image, he needs to start over with his approach to the game and start hitting early and often. I doubt he has it in him to do this.

The easiest way to show how tough u r, follow a former member of the coaching staff that owns u and run the ball. I’m not saying to run it 80/20, but 60/40. It will help protect the D, giving the chance to rest and recover.

Here’s Webster’s Dictionary definition of Muleshoe; moo-el-shoo, a quiet west Texas town, also used as an adjective to describe person(s) capable of double speaking regarding two of their possible occupational locales while jetting unannounced to a third. Used as a verb, to describe the act of being oblivious to all superiors, the press corps, and blind devotion to one’s mutually oblivious defensive coordinator. Used in the past tense as if to be muleshoed; similar in context to a fully extended punt kick to the groin of a fan base and taking zero responsibility or questions thereof. Used in the first person as in I was muleshoed, see photo of Caleb Williams or see photo of Lincoln Riley muleshoed by photo of Alex Grinch or photos of USC and OU’s athletic directors.

Thank you Greg Katz for finally saying it - the team has a divided locker room on its hands now. I truly believe that the NIL dark side is finally rearing its head. When you have kid millionaires walking around and flashing their expensive clothes, cars and accessories, amongst other players who get paid regular salaries (whatever the stipend is now at SC) those other players do not want to go to war for Caleb or with CLR. It is obvious that many starters do not give 100% effort in the game. This explains the underwhelming performances across the board. It is sad that it's gotten to this point that quickly. But that speaks of the soft nature of the leadership by CLR. Same thing is going on at Texas A&M, by the way. I do hope we can still right the ship somehow and not go the way of A&M, which would be truly pathetic.

The real issue with Riley is that he is a QB coach, and probably shouldn't even be an offensive coordinator, let alone a head coach. He has done quite well guiding 3 recent QBs to Heisman trophies, and helped another who had already won the Heisman (Jalen Hurts) to prepare for the NFL. But the way he runs the offense (if he is indeed running it) just drives the whole team ragged. That up-tempo hurry up style of offense, when snapping the ball with 30 secs left on the clock is not a particularly good idea. Even if the offense succeeds and scores, the drive is over within 2 to 3 minutes. That doesn't give the defense adequate time to rest. And when the offense doesn't succeed, that just means the defense has to go out into the field that much faster! By the end of the game, players on both sides are probably having to play way too many snaps, and it's especially harmful for the defense, who tire out quicker. This is just not a good overall formula. Other teams use up-tempo offenses as well, including Oregon, but even they use it more selectively and strategically. I suggest that Lincoln Riley realize that and not wear out our players to the point of exhaustion, so that they are not left totally vulnerable in the 4th quarter.

Utes fan. Love watching CW. And wish USC was better (just not against Utah). I think CW got used to doing the Caleb Williams show. Last year, everybody wanted to bring the house on him. Including Utah. And that's where the problems began. And Utah won only because CR7 loves a good shootout.
This year, Utah, was like "nope, we aren't doing the Caleb Williams show. We are dropping 7, controlled pressure, and making him play football like the other 21 guys in the field." And something like that just didn't occur to USC...
But I think CW is a smart guy and he will figure it out...

LR is a first time HC. He was protected at Oklahoma with Stoops advice & the entire administration guiding him with national attention not to implode. LR is a good coach but not elite in all phases of coaching. USC will win 8-10 games a year. LR is obligated to Grinch coming to SC & isn’t going anywhere. I said the LA media will turn on Riley quickly. SC has only lost 2 games ugly or not. Losing 6 games in 2 years would be expected but spoiled & expectations were way high on a Offensive HC. Bob Stoops built Riley into something he is not. If Stoops does not hire Riley at OU he would still be a OC at a mid major on the east coast or mid west. Riley knows what he is and saw a retirement fund and USC was a perfect ship. This is why he didn’t take the LSU job. LSU would have been a quicker disaster. Remember this is the same SC administration that gave Helton an extension. Live with the 8-10 wins a year going into the Big 10 then fire him immediately & cash him out and go get Kyle Wilingham with whatever money you can raise….

Also, last year's team didn't have to play Oregon or Washington, or otherwise it's not very different from this year. They barely beat a bunch of mediocre Pac-12 teams last year that they should have otherwise dominated. And of course, they got beat twice by the only good team they played (Utah). Well, it's happening again this year, and because they will have to play Oregon and Washington, it will be even worse! 😮🙄

Why is everyone so surprised with Grinch having a true freshman cover a makeshift running back? He has had a true freshman playing linebacker for most of the season when he clearly shouldn’t have been. This is what he does. He is incapable of putting the best players on the field, and when they are on the field he puts them at a disadvantage.

What can we say? The mix just isn’t there right now. Everyone sees it and it’s obvious. Lincoln Riley, I am 100% sure, has put all of his effort into making this team into a national championship team. But there were many things in the way. NIL chief among them. Riley needs to start paying college players. I am talking about those recruits who are blue chip offensive and defensive players. Period.
If he starts doing this (and please remember all the other bigtime programs are doing the same thing and have been since 2021) then things will happen in a good way and in short order. He is under tremendous pressure. Lately there are reports that he may be stepping back as head coach. I pray that he hasn’t experienced anything like a heart attack. The pressure that comes along with being a head coach needs to be respected, and I certainly hope that Lincoln Riley, who has two daughters and a wife is going to be ok. Not just that, but able to resume his dream job, being the head coach for USC. I hope everyone who reads this will be able to express some compassion and support for this young man, regardless of how much money he is being paid to do his job.

Bro ur way off...he's leaving alright...on Caleb's coattails if he can find a team that will take em both. wrong on the coach speak. When JR got raped vs Missouri in 1976, he came out and said things are going to change. And they did. USC would have won another NC had they recognized and adopted that mentality in fall camp. Riley needs to be brutally honest with himself and the media. He sucks. Things need to change.

Amen Chris,.... as usual. SMH. Caleb Williams is Jekyll & Hyde. Unrefined talent - he doesn't deserve to be #1 in the draft or even the first QB in the draft, but I do like having our 8th Heisman in Heritage Hall. But at this point, the dude is an embarrassment. AS FOR THE "D" wow against a barely functional offense made them look like world beaters. I think name an interim DC and fire Donte immediately. WHO really thinks Riley was to sick to make his podcast appointment. Not a good look to circle the wagons already. He simply wasn't ready for prime time, and he was NEVER the best OC in the country - he doesn't believe in the run game. Makes us wonder why he insisted on closed practices. Not even going to talk about his bloated salary and bennies now - I'd puke my breakfast. Wish we could fire up the Gulfstream and re-deposit CLR back in Norman. Man has ZERO cred left at this point -- so early SMH Totally agree with Chris & Marc

Also if you listen to him, he said he doesn't care about his legacy and wants to retire at a young age. You get a legacy by winning big games. So he's saying he doesn't care about winning. Next point, to be able to retire at an early age, you have to make alot of money. So y'all stuck till someone offers him more money. Then he'll take his circus act over there and prepare for one half of a football game 😂
