So then Hircine *is* related to the Reachmen. I kinda figured since some of the Reachmen wear headdresses that look strikingly similar to the skull that Hircine wears.

The fact that all the Et'Ada appear to be mortals that ascended and survived through multiple cycles of universal rebirth suggests that Hercine was a Reachmen himself or whatever the tribe was called in a previous cycle that shared his values.
By all accounts, it would seem likely that Et'Ada influence mortals to recreate the society they may have originated from in a previous cycle which is why we see parralells between now extinct races and existing ones.

@@KryyssTV amazing idea (the Et'Ada recreating the society they were part of). If we take that into account, we could say the daedra are not evil, they just follow the principles they followed in a previous kalpa/universe (Molag trying to submit everyone, Namira and cannibalism).
Perhaps Azura, Boethiah, and Mephala come from the same society and they want to recreate it in Morrowind
      Edit:
That makes me wonder how could a mortal achieve that level of power/magic, I believe there could be several possibilities. Using CHIM, becoming so powerful you could survive a kalpa to keep improving (like the psijic believe), or using a powerful soul gem to trap an already powerful being (like Mannimarco wanted to do to Molag Bal), among several other options

    • @KryyssTV
      @KryyssTV 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@ivans.5959 Well Tiber Septum attained Et'Ada divinity by absorbing the power of almost all dragons, Camoron gained the equivalent of Deadric immortality using Mehrune's Razor to severe himself from the restrictions of the Mundus and it is well known that Et'Ada can steal power from each other. So put that together with the Ragnarok-style war the ends each Kalpha and the fact you seem to have references to some surviving the recreation of each universe to get an idea.
Recall that Mundus is made from parts of Et'Ada but just as Lokhan could not be killed, despite being broken in two and his heart torn out, the fact is that Mundus cannot be destroyed either. So each Kalpha simply reboots Mundus with the Et'Ada survivors reshaping mortal history based upon some weird sense of nostalgia or duty to preserve their ancestral heritage. From a purely literary perspective it is a stroke of genius as you have an in-universe excuse to reboot your narrative once you exhaust all the interesting tales you can tell within the confines of the current universe.

I recall reading on UESP that the Reachmen shun deities like Clavicus Vile and Sanguine because they represent aspects of civilization that the Reachmen find weak and detestable. So their worldview is very different, and instead of seeing things as good or evil, they see them in terms of utility and results. To them, cruelty is the greatest kindness and kindness is the greatest cruelty because cruelty will teach you to be strong and fight back but kindness will make you weak and complacent.

      @@stunner9005 quite the opposite,
firstly, the point of the reachmen is they are everything the stormcloaks claim to be but with the stormcloaks pointing them as villainous without any sense of irony
Secondly what your suggesting; a semi autonomous reach is accualy worse then if windhelm got its complete independence since it cuts skyrim and the empire off from all the gold mines leading to an economic collapse all the while leaving the reach being commanded by hag ravens and briarhearts
Thirdly, from a political standpoint it doesn't matter which territory rebels since any rebellion if successful lays the seeds for the next one; so if the marcarth becomes independent so will windhelm, and then dawnstar and winterhold , riften will once meaven starts seeing dollar signs, all these rebellions will force whiterun to open up to the empire just to avoid the raiding turning whiterun into a constant warzone just so the empire can try and hold solitude but can't due to being attacked on all sides and no money to pay troopes
And that's not even getting into what will happen if the stormcloaks win... and then ulfric dies. who takes over after he dies, probably not someone with his wisdom and charisma and whose only thought is "kill all the non nords"

    • @spikymarshmallow7611
      @spikymarshmallow7611 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, except for two factors;
      1) All the silver in the reach would rightfully be owned by the natives, not the Imperials.
      2) The Reachmen are Daedra Worshipers. Not only that, but some of the most reprehensible Daedra are worshiped. By letting them have their Reach, they're condoning Daedra Worship of Molag Bal, Namira, Mehrunes Dagon and alike. Some Tribes would probably worship Vaermina or Mephala.
The Dunmer and Morrowind is seldom part of the Empire (Alliances made during the Tribunal Rule), and when they are, I imagine the Imperial Pantheon was brought in to try and break the Daedric Trend (and failed, but still), because Daedra represent the very opposite values of the Empire. Azura likely escaped a lot of shit, but Boethiah and Mephala would have been the most likely targets for systemic change. They worship THREE Daedra, and do not practice Necromancy.
      The Reachmen do.

All of this sheds some light on events in Skyrim even! The Molag Bal shrine in Markarth, a city with reachmen citizens, and the Boethiah priest being captured by forsworn. The shrub to Namira is close to Markarth and there’s all those Namira worshippers there. It’s possible that some of Markarth’s cannibals are even forsworn. Lisbet tries to brush off the commotion of Margret’s attempted murder as “just the market rabble.” Also, the pommel to Mehrunes Razor is being kept by a group of forsworn as well. AND Peryite’s Shrine is in the hills of the reach as well, located near a small forsworn village.

Also note that the House in which the Shrine of Bal is is abandoned. It's abandoned by the time we see in Skyrim, which is long after the ousting of the Forsworn from Markarth. That house was likely occupied by worshipers of Bal. Hell, they probably made the shrine to begin with. Of course the fresh food may still of course be Logrolf's doing, or it could be Forsworn Sympathizers secretly tending to the shrine in the dark hours..?

Probably Logrolf; Molag Bal says the priest stops by regularly to perform rights and purifications on Bal's shrine and mace. That's why it's rusted and damaged by the events of Skyrim.
My guess is in the 200+ years since Oblivion, the mace found its way into a Bal-worshipping Reachmen clan who eventually settled in Markarth while it was outside of Imperial control. After the Markarth Incident, Logrolf moved into town, found the shrine and began performing his rituals to keep it and Molag's influence in the area contained.

You know, seeing all these different interpretations of the Daedra and of the metaphysics of the Elder Scrolls world, I _really_ wish we'd see more of this in the gameplay and less in literature. I wanna see the main character experience and truly _live_ these different interpretations and make the player truly question what's going on instead of just more "Daedra bad". I get that the games need to be accessible to the general audience, but I still think there's a reasonable balancing point between "hah, funny dragon game" and "intricate metaphysics as a product of an acid-trip".

Kudos! I really liked this. Especially in Skyrim, it really felt like the Reachmen/Foresworn were sorely underutilized as just cannon fodder, when they could (should) have been a significant faction with more interaction and lore. I was also kind of surprised that they hadn't formed an alliance with the Orsiner ... who were also sorely neglected in Skyrim. It seems like a whole new magic system (maybe even using stamina instead of magicka to cast) should have been developed. Along with a lot more interaction with Daedra worship. I hope that TES 6 does a better job here. There's a lot of potential.

Most fun I ever had playing Skyrim was when I was roleplaying a forsworn dragonborn. Lot of childhood illnesses, never managed to die. So she concluded that her thuum was the logical result of so many trials from the dragon god Peryite, and it was her job to "restore natural order" to the Reach: ie, put Reachfolk back in charge and murder Ulfric.

      You should get the mods:
-Alternate start live another life (lets you start as a reachman)
-Simple Forsworn (implements changes to the reach that should have honestly already been there)
-Trade & Barter as well as faction economy (to be able to trade with forsworn exclusive merchants and have realistic prices for them)
-Beyond Reach (a full DLC size mod that takes place in the reach)
      and last but not least
-Triumvirate (which will add 15 magic archetypes to make for an immersive magic experience as a reachman)

It gives you the option to start a new game as a forsworn and spawn near the main questline or use a saved game, which is more compatible with other mods. It's a little buggy in some areas with plenty of bug complaints on the mod page, and the voice acting is.. well... listen to it yourself. Overall, if you put in enough effort into the other mods I listed you can still have a pretty immersive forsworn experience, but you could have an entirely new forsworn experience if you try this mod instead of or along with the other mods I listed. To note, if you choose the new game version make sure you don't have alternate start another life, it will likely conflict hard).

Arngeir: "I see that all are in attendance and have expressed their willingness to negotiate terms for a cease of hostilities, on invitation by the Greybeards of High Hrothgar. Albeit reluctantly."
Ulfric: "I still find it hard to believe that we're allowing Elenwen to remain seated at this summit. This is sacred ground no one should tread upon unless they're willing to cleanse their boots of blood and their soul of old grudges..."
Elenwen: "That is why we are all here, if I'm not mistaken."
Rikke: "Enough, please. We cannot afford to be sidetracked right now. General Tullius?"
Tullius: "Yes, I've read through the initial demands and proposals submitted by Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak and his compatriots within the ruling class of Skyrim. Jarl Laila Law-Giver of Riften has expressed her willingness to abdicate if the Empire is able to meet the terms of an equal exchange. Though according to the available documentation, those terms are fully open to negotiation."
Elisif: "Personally I'm shocked that it would even appear so easy."
    Galmar: "Hmph. It won't be."
Ulfric: "If we give up the Rift, we want the Reach in return. One of the Silver-Blood clan would sit on the Mournful Throne."
Tullius: "You would have to be crazy to want that Hold in it's current state! I'll disclose that the Empire values those lands for the silver it produces and exports, but every other trade avenue is disrupted. If it weren't for this Civil War we would have sent a couple of Legions to quell the Forsworn, already."
Ulfric: "A war within a war. Yes, that region of Skyrim has always proven problematic, but while our forces aren't occupied with the Imperial Legion we can dedicate half of them towards dealing with the Forsworn. More manpower than you'd be able to muster on short notice. It would help everyone involved."
Esbern: "If I might interject. I believe the Dragonborn may have a unique insight on the subject and could offer another solution."
Delphine: "That's right. He owns a residence in Markarth, if I'm not mistaken."
Tullius: "This ought to be interesting. I'm willing to hear almost any ideas at this point."
Galmar: "Ha! Interesting indeed. From what intelligence we have, the Dragonborn killed old Madanach, himself."
Elenwen: "What? The Thalmor have not confirmed any of these events, yet. Although there has been increased Forsworn activity within Markarth."
Tullius: "You might want to look into who you have stationed in Markarth. Anyway. Dragonborn, you're one of Jarl Igmund's Thanes. What input can you offer for all of this?"
Dragonborn: "Every major Forsworn Redoubt can function as their own city state. If we grant the native people independence to that end, I would support the Stormcloaks holding the Reach."
Tullius: "That is outrageous! If we allowed that, there would be a fractured Hold on the verge of collapse on the doorstep of the provincial Capitol!"
Ulfric: "I have to agree with Tullius. If the Reach does fall under my sphere of influence, I can tell you right now, the Stormcloaks will crush the Forsworn! Not offer an olive branch of truce."
Galmar: "Could it be due to the Dragonborn's bloodline that he offers this proposal? He is a Breton, though not native to Skyrim."
Elenwen: "I will commit whatever Thalmor I can spare towards assisting whomever controls the Reach in neutralising the Forsworn."
Ulfric: "No one asked you, Witch!"
    Elisif: "The Dragonborn is right."
Tullius: "Jarl Elisif? You agree with his proposal?"
Elisif: "Yes, I do. Skyrim itself has been fractured ever since King Toryyg was killed, and the Reach torn asunder long before then. I believe it would be to everyone's benefit if we all recognized the Forsworn as their own political entity."
Rikke: "General Tullius, I must remind you that officially Jarl Elisif does have the final say on this matter. Regardless of opposing viewpoints at this summit, sir."
Delphine: "I don't know. It could work, if whoever controlled the Reach negotiated with the Forsworn for trade agreements and such. This is a bit outside my own expertise, but, I know a thing or two about embattled groups seeking safety from aggressors."
Ulfric: "Damn it. Very well...if we trade the Rift for control of the Reach, we will recognize the sovereignty of the Forsworn city states. I will make that an official term for the handover of power. However, the Reach itself will be ruled by the new Jarl. And the new Jarl will swear fealty to me."
Tullius: "It's agreed, then. If you don't mind, I'll request that Jarl Igmund transfer to your court in order to advise you on this matter, Ulfric."
Ulfric: "If he accepts, we will value his knowledge."
Galmar: "By Talos. What a mess."
Esbern: "Try to look at it this way. Madanach is already dead, yes? If the Forsworn accept the terms of this agreement, mediated by the Dragonborn I would imagine, they are already divided and cannot form a cohesive counter offensive at this time. The rebellion is contained and they gain limited independence at the same time. I'm confident this will work."
Ulfric: "They will accept the terms or be wiped out. It is as simple as that."
Tullius: "That's what I was afraid of. Although I would have ended up in the same position, myself."
(There was a lot more depth to the political landscape in Skyrim than it appeared, and I really wanted more hypothetical options like this one during the Civil War negotiations.)

As an added bonus, there would be shopkeepers and no one would be hostile until a crime was committed against them. There might also be a unique set of laws and punishments for Forsworn settlements, like the Orc Strongholds do. The Reachmen seem quite underdeveloped compared to other tribes in TES. The notion that they live in a primative tribal society as they reject modern comforts and embrace the challenge of living off the land would certainly stifle their architectural and social development but it would encourage them to be very active traders, explorers and salvagers since they expend little time studying but would have an abundance of experience in how to provide for their needs in the most efficient way.
To draw similar real world comparisons, communities that live in seclusion typically have some kind of goods or skills they specialise in to trade to nearby towns because the simple fact is that hunting us not always a reliable source of food and clothing, crops take time to mature and daily needs have to be met. Yet Reachmen don't seem to live up to their ideology of survival when they willingly choose to not do everything in their strength to be self-sufficient.

Dibella is the god of beauty, music and art, all things that the reachmen likely despise as they see them as soft and weak. They probably enjoy defiling them and I am sure the daedric prince of revulsion and decay would favor those who defile the aspects of beauty.

@@jacksonmacpherson6101 true, but sge is also worshiped as a goddess of sex, and yes as a fertility goddess by some.
I could see them gaving a far more wild interpritation of her then those pansy imperials. After all we know the old nords had diffrent ideas about the divines before the imperial cult took over.
Why can't the people of the reach?

    I just figured something out.
Oblivion is like a metaphor for creative daydreaming.
While Mundus is a metaphor for a creative project being actualized.
Where you have to get bogged down in mundane and boring details, collaborate with others and challenge yourself. Its mundane and Its frustrating but in the end. You'll feel more accomplished and you'll have an experience that you can and have shared with others. But you'll get bogged down, you'll get responsibilities. Still the reward is sweeter.

Me: time to see who you really are! (takes off the Reachmen culture's mask)
    Reachmen:
    Me: Mandalorian Jenkins!
Bethesda: and I would've gotten away with it too if it weren't for those damn lore lovers
(I know it wasn't a direct rip-off but they do indeed have similar vibes, the difference is the Reachmen focus on survival rather than combat)
