      I usually resolve that chord to the 1 I voice it with a 6/9 chord!!! Never thought about going to 2!!! I have to rip both of those!!!

    Why’d he use a diminished 1 chord to go to the 2 or 3, when 1 is a diatonic?

    • @BlessedOne686
      @BlessedOne686 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The main function of diminished chords when used as passing chords is to go to a MINOR chord. You can think of the passing chord he played as an E Diminshed because the notes are the same except for C# and it functions as a b3 chord because E is in the bass. Also if you add the Bb note you get Edim 7. So, the b3 Diminshed chord resolves in a half step movement to a Minor chord, which is an example of ONE Of the fundamental passing chord movements - a DIMINISHED Chord to a MINOR chord. BUT PLS REMEMBER, most pros like Deyquan know these rules intuitively and maybe wouldn’t explain it the same way; they rely on FEEL and EXPERIENCE.
      Music DOESN’T HAVE RULES; it has COMMON PATTERNS. The patterns help us to understand the fundamentals and know what to expect in a song. But when it appears that a pattern has not been utilised, we should widen our schema (our blueprint of how music works) to incorporate NEW ideas. The secret that pros understand is that ANY CHORD can POSSIBLY sound good ANYWHERE; and if it sounds good, IT IS GOOD. Think of a musical key and diatonic chord functions like a box; pros have mastered WHERE and HOW to WEAVE IN and OUT OF THE BOX to make melodious tunes. It truly is an art, not a science that we are all pursuing; and you will master it.

    Question do you use correct fingering for all keys or do you use what’s convenient for you? If you use what’s convenient for you can you do a video on it. I want to move for freely in all keys

    • @DeyquanBowens
      @DeyquanBowens  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use both but it depends on the context. Running scales with the correct fingering helps build your fingers so you can play more freely. It’s really just a time thing!
