But recent developments have strained relations between the neighbours.
A border dispute sparked by a land claimed by both sides - threatened a potential conflict last year.

As an Ethiopian I wish peace and stability to my fellow brothers/sisters in Sudan. Both Ethiopia and Sudan must wish and work for the stability of their country, the instability of Sudan or Ethiopia disturbed both countries. When it comes to GERD Sudan should independently deal with Ethiopia instead piggyback on Egyptian dirty politics… majority of Ethiopians have very soft heart when it comes to Sudan… more than any other nations in the Eastern-Africa Ethiopians favors Sudan ppl, for sure Ethiopia and Eritrea share long history and they been together most of their existence… till they divorced in early 1990's for the 2nd time in their history. Sudan and Ethiopia have unmatched friendship between their peoples. Egypt on the other hand has huge thirst for the Nile and this interest for water supersedes any ethical relationship with both countries. As a result Egypt creates internal conflict in both countries.

I am sorry but this lady from Doha doesn’t know what she is talking about, the importance of Sudan to US is very exaggerated, and she also claims that Ethiopian government is backed by US which is completely untrue.
The Ethiopia prime mister is very inept and conflict oriented person let alone to contribute any positive impact on the ongoing conflict in Sudan. He is now pushing another round of civil war in Ethiopia engaging in a deadly conflict against the Amhara people in the Amhara regional state.
It's very unfortunate to assume that Ethiopia would get an opportunity to retake the contested land (Al Fashiqa) exploiting the Sudan's conflict. That's not going to happen.
