In Thailand, ex-Nissan employees reported they felt as if they worked for a government bureaucracy. Nissan Dealerships have had no new products for years. Long before the serious arrival of electric vehicles.
There has been no official announcement from Nissan Uttaradit. It is still open and working, but the building is about to be changed to BYD (BYD Sor.Aroon Uttaradit), even though many people disagree.
Vehicles today are not as reliable as older ones, and to add insult to injury, they cost a lot more! Which is why so many people are keeping their old Toyotas, Hondas, VW's (yes VR6 etc.).
Sister moving into your bedroom. Sam, that’s funny. No one on the web is doing a better job of reporting on the demise of legacy autos. Your creative output is also prolific and excellent. I don’t always agree with you, but I always want to know your views. Thanks, Chuck
The sister moving into your bedroom comment is crazy, given that's what my neighbors did, two sisters moved into the garage and rented out the actual living area of their house. Didn't know they were that broke since the house is paid off and they own another property but that one is vacant for some reason.
Infiniti were competitive back in the late-1990s and early-2000s in the USA, but I haven't known anyone who has bought a new one in well over a decade. The divided dealership thing is interesting, as there's a dealership group in my area with VW and Audi in the same building (there's a door between both showrooms) and a separate building for a Subaru dealership. However, all the back-office paperwork is done by the same staff, and the service shop is one big shop; it does have 'general' areas for each brand, but they do cross over depending on workload.
Infinity failed miserably in the UK, they did not market the car and eventually pulled out of the UK leaving all us infinity owners with limited choices for service or spares. Service by Nissan dealerships was atrocious at best. Spares prices went through the roof as they had to be ordered from Holland and to give an example an ABS cable was £40 but now they are in excess of £500. My infinity EX 30 was the best car I’ve ever owned inc a BMW7. It was £42k new or a good used one for £22k with 15000 on the clock (3 year old)and I got £1500 (14 yrs old with 138k on the clock but still going strong, engine wise) as a trade in for a pre-owned Tesla 3 which I really like (most of the time) but for comfort and individuality (I was one of only 200 sold in the UK), it was a hard act to follow.
I worked in a press shop at the time supplying parts for them it didn't last long I remember the die tools being took out the factory and some people got laid off my next door neighbour has one and it's the only one I've ever seen lol
@ if it were not for the road tax and low MPG I’d another one, that said I was getting 38MPG on a run, not bad for a V6. 3l Diesel. But I guess it’s time to move on.. cheers
@ from what i have seen if the 1000 kilometre range Chinese EVs now selling outside of China make our shores then I’d be very interested., I’m keen to have a look / test drive. The UK hasn’t adopted the crazy EU import tariffs on Chinese made vehicles (yet) so maybe we will get a reasonable car at reasonable money.. TBH I’m concerned about their reliability eg MG came in the top 10 most unreliable car survey (we don’t hear much about that), so it makes me cautious. That said there isn’t a week that goes by when I’m not calling Tesla to get something resolved & a 60 day wait for a faulty charger cable assessment is a poor show.. oh the joys of motoring…
I purchased a 2021 Nissan Murano off the lost new. I realized a few days later that my car was leaning at the driver side rear. Today in 2024. I have taken this car to Nissan about 20 times to address this issue that is visible, and you can feel it when driving. The dealer is working with Nissan to deny what is obvious is not actually happening. I keep reminding them the car is fine when parked. The issue is when you drive. The driver side rear is weak. They refuse to do anything even after a mechanic drive and the car and confirm this. When I pull it into their service department, you can see the lean, and they will look directly at me and ssy they don't see anything. It's madness. This was supposed to be the car I paid off and have for years to come. I was sold a defect from the factory, and they refuse to do anything about it. I have other defects. Now, when I go to the dealer, they want to charge me a diagnostic fee for a warranty issue. Yes, Nissan sucks!
I bought my Infiniti because the CPO warranty was better than that of many other auto manufacturers. With an 8 year, Unlimited Mile Warranty I went with Infiniti. I traded in my Ford, which gave me trouble more often than not.
Good luck with eight year your warranty when the company disappears -- b/c Nissan and Infiniti both are soon to be consigned to the ash heap of automotive history.
A lawyer friend owned a Q? and drove it over 100,000 miles with only a few annoying problems. He traded it for a Cadillac and got nothing for it in the trade. I liked it, although it seemed to be nothing close to being an par with the Lexus that it was aimed to compete with.
There are a lot of infinity cara in Brisbane. The think is Sam, everyone is different. The problem too many car companies & too much choice makes it harder to understand.
I owned a wrecking yard retrieval, $2,000, drove it for approximately 4ish years, it was my best car, 2002 Nissan XTrail, fantastic, best car iv owned, petrol, i miss it, id like another one, Great to drive, lite weight, large diameter wheels, im sure electric would be a must, my price range, i have to wait a while!!!! Its officially OVER Infiniti is closeing ALL US dealerships. The cause they are saying are low sales, but the REAL cause is likely CEO /board greed. Toyota is also merging dealerships with Lexus in other countries. These companies are privy to economic and financial forecast informaton that the public is not. They are tightening their belts and cutting off the fat to prepare for probably what will be a sharp economic downturn in the next 2 years. To put it simply, the economic plane is running out of fuel, and have been told by the pilots ahead of time and the CEO's are taking their golden parachutes and bailing, while the regular passengers are told to "remain calm".
I bought my 2017 Infiniti QX70s because I wanted an SUV that drove like the BMW X5 I once had....without the maintenance cost. I love the car! Infiniti screwed themselves by keeping their platforms unchanged for too long. People purchased Infinitis and kept them...because the car still ran well and there wasn't a new exciting model to buy into.
Since Infiniti is Nissan, I think it is better when Infiniti and Nissan shared showrooms/dealerships. In Thailand, BYD and Denza showrooms/dealerships are separated, very few Denza places compare to BYD places, so I don't agree much with the separations. It will make Denza sales number too much lower than BYD.
The Japanese dealer are just doing what Hyundai did when they introduced Genesis brand...Hyundai Motor was unwilling to spend more money on a separate dealership
Do you think any of this can be traced back to when the Japanese management decided to oust Carlos Ghosn because they thought they knew better, and the Japanese government colluded with the Japanese management?
The Nissan inside saying that the company has "12 to 14 months left" is truly staggering, but not surprising. Infiniti used to be a fantastic brand, but they have really fallen behind... time to get rid of the brand.
we have a 2003 g35 w/ 150k miles -- insanely reliable - low cost to maintain. sadly, the interior is dreck -- 10 different kinds of levers, dials, and buttons -- nutz.
Two key drivers of the accelerating decline of Infinity were the relocation of Nissan's US HQ from southern California to Nashville (they lost a lot of key talent) and the arrest of Ghosn. Infiniti is the canary in the coal mine for Nissan.
I wonder how many Nissan customers dropped that brand and bought Hyundai ? They basically thought they got more for their money when they did. What they really did was dropped the brand who's CVT transmissions fail for a car brand who's engines fail. Its like a giant social experiment with the consumer getting destroyed either way they went. Glad my Tesla has neither a CVT or an ICE.
Why is it Viking you focus on a few companies that are only losing millions when there are 90 Chinese all BEV firms that each owe billions and make zero profit to pay off their debts; hence they are near bankruptcy. Nissan or VW have long histories of making money; and paying their debts. If you were a bank and considering a loan by a long standing company that' has consistently made profits - or one that never made a profit and never paid back any debts in their history - which would you consider a loan to? Not the bankrupt ones.
I want Nissan to survive, in what ever form they can, the world needs competition, especially they created the Nissan 240z, S30, 1970s, badged as Datsun in some countries, one of the best selling cars in the world, BUT electric version!!! Why Not? The car world needs a great lineage, NISSAN
Your the legendary NISSAN car brand, for the people, and racing!!! And style, my feeling is that china maybe just ahead of the pack, and saw the future of electric cars, because they had terrible air quality years ago, and the Chinese government made a pollution air quality decision. Now the way I see it is china trying to flood the overseas markets, europe, america, they can in Australia, weve lost our car industry, its coming back in a small way, i feel china is flooding these overseas markets because their on a winner, but also theve realised clean air quality is everything, and they want the rest of the world to also have clean air, from electric cars, solar panels and wind generators. And not only that, they have the mega population to deliver to the world, and at affordable prices. Id like to suggest to not look a gift horse in the face, china is giving the rest of the world a gift!!! What do people do, see the negative, blame and accuse china. I say china see healthy climate and air quality and they want it fast!!! Maybe they also see we need to do electric everything now. Of course every nation wants to also have a piece of the electric, economic succes pie!! Every nation/ economy needs to survive, without saying, i say china just wants to help, and they can, and they are, with incredible style, and fantastic timing, now!!! Good on china!!! The rest Of The World needs to survive too!!!! 😊
Far years, Nissan/Infinit tried to have a futuristic design aesthetic and it always looked like children's toys to me. And the interiors were embarrassingly bad. The Infiniti's interiors have unbelievable amounts of cheap looking metallic shiny plastic on every possible surface (the opposite of Tesla for example). Even leaving the engines and mechanics aside, I can't imagine why anyone would buy such an ugly car that is trying way too hard to look like upmarket plastic toys for grownups who play too many video games.
In this day and age I don't understand how this smoke and mirrors technique that these Japanese manufacturers use still works at all. It is interesting that people are so stupid that they don't understand that for example Toyota with L badge instead of T badge is just expensive Toyota and so on. I could understand this strategy in 1980's when people didn't have a Internet and due to that they could plausibly believe that those are some real brands :D
In the late 1990’s My Kodak rep. Marvelled at the photo I enlarged in my office, I told her I printed on my new digital colour printer. That’s all fine and dandy, but when global oil demand starts to decline, (and there are clear signs they are) investments in new oil rigs will prove to be a blind man’s investment. Automakers, still blindly focused on vehicles with internal combustion engines are going the way of the Dinosaurs - ironically that’s were crude oil comes from.

I honestly think Elon Musk's XAI501x is the safest bet for long term hold, and will survive out of every other altcoins. It will get adopted in US, Ecuador, Asia, starting from Japan, and slowly spread out and gain. This is a winning coin, apart from all the technical greatness.

The last Infiniti I heard anyone talking about was the G35 back in the late 00s. They have been irrelevant ever since
Many car brands are struggling. Could it be, their vehicles are too expensive.
In Thailand, ex-Nissan employees reported they felt as if they worked for a government bureaucracy. Nissan Dealerships have had no new products for years. Long before the serious arrival of electric vehicles.
@electricviking When will you discuss the new Mexican ev manufacturer named ilonia? And what happened to the Leapmotor S01?

Suddenly in Malaysia we see Lexus sharing showrooms with Toyota.
wonder if Acura are doing that (yes, i know Honda's luxury brand is only available in US)
I did, Infinity qx70. Chassis is based off a Nissan Z 370. With 4 wheel steering. Great medium sized Suv.
Vehicles today are not as reliable as older ones, and to add insult to injury, they cost a lot more! Which is why so many people are keeping their old Toyotas, Hondas, VW's (yes VR6 etc.).
Like the VR6, I test drove a mk4 golf with 6 speed manual and VR6, fun to drive with plenty of torque in any gear.
Infinitis golden years when they had the G35 and G37
The platinum years were the early '90s with the Q45

Why would a CEO claim bankruptcy when they can milk it to the end and keep getting their outrageous paycheck for a longer period?
Why do they need bodyguards and drive amour vehicles and live in gated community neighborhoods 😮……hmmm…. Are they really happy
You buy an Infiniti if you like the VQ35 and VQ37. Decent power, and great reliability. Unfortunately, cars with these V6's are vanishing.
For the brief time Infinity was for sale in this market, they were all co-located with Nissan dealerships. Long since gone the way of the Dodo.
There was one in Box Hill Victoria. That was shared with Land Rover / Jaguar.
Same question for Acura and Lexus buyers…
It always amazes me that the Infiniti, Lexus and Acura brands don't even exist in Japan, in fact Acura is US only.
Infiniti were competitive back in the late-1990s and early-2000s in the USA, but I haven't known anyone who has bought a new one in well over a decade.
