You are definitely right in this sounding like a poem. A lot of rap songs do, especially Eminem. Like you said, it's the use of alliteration, metaphors and obviously rhymes. It's all in structured in a pattern like poems. You can check out an Eminem rhyme pattern video where they highlight how the verses are structured to learn more.
Girl if you think that bar about his dad was tough you should listen to his song "leaving heaven" featuring Skylar Grey. He goes in on him hard. The whole song leads up to his last verse on that song that ties it all together.

Favorite is Bad Guy for it being a 7 minute song it’s just so smooth and that last verse is always got me to replay it.
It's impossible to name my favorite Eminem songs... But if I had to now... Without putting too much thought into it.. The first three that come to mind are:
"Walk on water", "Like Toy Soldiers" and "The Ringer"
Hands down my fave Em song..I was in late teens when this dropped. I could relate to it at the time.
When this came out, his grrr into humanity was on point with everyone everywhere, just because there were so many things that were and still are going wrong. He found that feeling and was able to let it out

Im from Michigan, infinite was the 1st album I heard. We we're all shocked to hear him on the radio for the 1st time. A couple of my friends we're involved with the music scene in Detroit, his dj from that 1st album was spinning records at my buddy's House in like 1998. Remember kid rock put em on a song in his breakout record a year or 2 B4 Eminem blew up too. They're very different people & artists now, but they we're both big in the local music scene in the mid-late '90s here.

Some other of my favourites are: Murder, Murder (rarity from the Slim Shady EP); If I Had (the intro is pure poetry); Rock Bottom (Eminem wrote it at a time where he actually wanted to kill himself); this one right here (The Way I Am); Criminal; Kim; The Kids; Renegade; Till I Collapse; Lose Yourself (obviously); Beautiful, Music Box (a very underappreciated song!!); Legacy; and Arose. Of course, there are more, but these definitely come to mind.

I'm late to the party and technically on the wrong video, but I don't want to track down the other video. The first Eminem song I heard was My Name Is and my wife went and bought our infant son a white onesie and some khakis. Our son had blond hair so it was perfect. Everytime she called him Shady he would just light up. He got excited everytime it came on.
