  • This is an old Vise with some damaged parts. I used stainless steel welding rods to reinforce and repair. I am an amateur. I am very passionate about restoration and home making.     As as older machinist and fixer upper, you have done a amazing job with just hand tools. Taken a junk item and made it fully functional and nice to look at. Great job!!

    That was a lot of work, a lot of cleaning and a lot of electrolysis, it did turn out great but I got one word for you....evaporust!!!! It doesn't matter if that's what everyone is using....it's amazing!!!!!

      Evaporust, WD40 rust remover, thingy 51 (I forget the name, it’s the European equivalent), citric acid, or just vinegar: they all work, removing rust is not really an issue. I’ve never seen electrolysis done in a serving tray, though: our man missed a trick here. Bucket, bowl, canister, anything? Pretty wild, but fun to watch.

    Beautiful job! Perfect craftsmanship! It is a pity that you did not unscrew and regenerate the vice overlays. (Vice jaws) It would be a perfect match!

    Just a tip for you. When you have metal on metal moving parts don’t paint the area tape it over. Thx for the video

    Hemos visto una reconstrucción y reacondicionado (NO es una restauración) de una herramienta notablemente antigua. Ni siquiera se sabe el fabricante o una edad estimada. Esta pieza estaba prácticamente para reciclado de material y se logró una recuperación bastante decorosa. Aplauso para su autor!! 🎉

    I love it!!! Use a drill bit as a punch!!! Yes....And using filler putty on something you are going to hammer on...you are slick.

    That is how not to do electrolysis - in a shallow dish with the parts partly submerged, and the cathode being the mesh underneath the parts. 🤦‍♂️

      I learned it on youtube and I think it will be good to have such black foam :D. Though I'm not so sure ^^. Sandblasting gun is still the best. ^^

      @@drscraps - another restoration channel did a comparison between electrolysis and acid on an old rusty frying pan - did half “n” half of the pan and sand-blasted it = the diluted acid was most efficient over the electrolysis and the middle that was sand-blasted, 😐

    I strongly recommend CLEANING vinegar instead of electrolytic derusting. Although slower it is much cleaner and controlable. I have done both many many times. In any case great job.

      @@CARLOCA1966 Hola Carlos. Es cuestion de comprarlo en un super. Tiene un nivel de acidez mas alto que el comestible. 24 o 48 hs. de inmersion son suficientes para eliminar hasta el oxido mas resistente. Saludos.

    I think this might be a young guy in his dads workshop. He has alot to learn but we all have to start somewhere. Keep it up and maybe learn how to use electrolosys effectivley.

      @@CARLOCA1966 tysy tube has a few videos showing it, also project farm and bleepin jeep. They all have good videos. The main thing is to make sure that the pieces are fully suberged in the liquid and use a bigger bit of metal as a sacrifice. Keep up the good work buddy, looking forward to the next video.

    Минусы: привалочные плоскости после болгарки уже не плоскости (не у всех есть токарка, но напильник и плоскость с листом наждачки найти можно); поленились заклеить губки перед покраской - деталюшки в крашенных губках охотнее скользят.
    Вопрос: зачем вы мучились с нагревом болтовых соединений, если их все равно под замену? Срезали бы их болгаркой
    Плюсы: умеете варить, бороться со ржавчиной, и несомненно дали вторую жизнь тискам.

      Меня убило, что вы поместили детали типа в таз для химического процесса, дабы ржавчина отпала, даааа этот процесс рабочий.НО КАК МОЖНО БЫЛО НЕ КУПИТЬ ГЛУБОКИЙ ТАЗ,дабы делали были полностью погружены.
      Почему мы любим видео о реставрации? Думаю потому что хотим увидеть восстановленн деталь, после того когда время эту деталь уничтожило.

    This is one of those projects where you just had to like refurbishing it. It isn't a very large enough vice to use for anything large and serious, but it has it's place for small issues. A lot of work, but you did it... Thumbs Up You may consider using carriage type bolts for the swivel section. A regular both can easily slip instead of tighten. Just an idea.

    Nice recovery and restoration. That vice was in very bad shape. I had a chuckle, when you found some random piece of steel tubing that looked like part of a bearing and it fitted perfectly inside the fixed jaw.

      You would think if someone has a channel for this stuff, they would at least get the proper sized container. It’s painful to watch the awkward use of the wrong tools for the job in most cases

    Quando vi a peça nesse estado fiquei ansioso para ver o final... Porém não ficou bom o trabalho, ficou mau acabado e não foi usado métodos e ferramentas adequadas...

    Cloridric acid is easier and faster to remove rust, than you can block the reaction with soda.

    Não gosto de criticar o trabalho, mas faltou capricho nessa restauração. Não precisa de WD40 para remover a sujeira da superfície, isso fez o trabalho ficar ainda mais demorado e sujo. Usou um estilete para remover algo que estava grudado no "torno". O nome dessa ferramenta é morsa. Não tirou os mordentes da morsa e pintou tudo junto. Apesar de ter passado massa para corrigir as imperfeições, elas ainda estavam lá e pior, dá para ver que faltou lixar mais a massa. Enfim, não gostei destes pontos mas espero ver uma evolução no seu trabalho e que esses apontamentos sirvam de direcionamento para os próximos projetos. Abraço

      Você está absolutamente certo, as ferramentas que tenho são muito temporárias, mais uma coisa, admito que a maneira como faço é muito complicada e pouco profissional. Estou tentando mudar essas habilidades. Obrigado pelo seu feedback honesto.

    Hàn đáp ngoài thì không được rồi, trước khi hàn phải mài vat ống, để cho moi han ăn sâu phải han được nhiều lớp

      Mình nghĩ nó chỉ cần định tâm cốt eto là đc. Vì phần chịu lực ép của eto ko lớn. Rất khó phá đc mối hàn này. Tuy nhiên m hàn cũng kém thật. Hii. Hơi nham nhở mặc dù nghiên cứu trên mạng kỹ lắm rồi.

      Yes, I use the laptop's power adapter 19v and 12v 3-5amp.

    Muito fraco . Primeiro lava com água e sabão e depois coloca na soda . Tempera a peça para depois usinar . Precisa fazer no mínimo SENAI .

    Please, just buy a wire wheel for the grinder. It breaks my heart watchin someone waste their time with washing up liquid and a wire brush, absolute waste of time.
