  • If you struggle with poor golf iron shots in both strike and direction, then do this drill! This drill will not only teach you the skill of controlling your low point resulting in pure ballstriking, but it will also result in a neutral clib path resulting in a dead straight ball flight.

    This is a super drill. I actually took this drill to the range and ‘road tested’ it before posting. It hugely improved my balk striking, got me over to the left side at impact, produced solid straight shots. Can’t recommend it enough. Best drill I have ever done. This exact same drill helps to hit down with irons and helps in hitting up with driver. Same drill. Two outcomes. Try it for yourself.

    This video has made 100% difference to my iron game. I’m still a total amateur but for the first time I felt confident with my long irons. Thanks buddy, I subscribed because of this. The only online coach I bother with now.

    Another winner Jonathan, all your videos so easy to comprehend, your takeaway drill took 6 shots of my handicap, now 12, not to bad for 70 year old 👍

    I waited to comment until I tried it on the practice ground. It helped with weight transfer and ball striking. I introduced as a pre shot routine, then I played with. Amazing results. Lots more confidence with my irons.
    Cheers.

    Just wanted to let you know that I tried this on the course for all of my full shots today. It was crazy how far and straight I hit my irons using this method.

    What a great drill to use at the range before a round of golf. One drill that warms up many issues, having more time for putting and chipping. Always feel rushed. This should help. Thank you.

    Can't wait to try this!! How would you then transition yo having the ball back in a 'normal position' after this drill? Could you continue to play all full iron shots off your front foot?

    This really gave a wonderful ball strike, thanks!
    One question: when I do the drill, the ball tends to go left (and a bit higher). Is this a "normal" consequence of the forward position, or should I try to get the same ball flight as with the ball centered?

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely, you’ll be hitting the ball later in the arc which will result in a high pull. Completely normal for the drill 👍🏼

  • @inusprinsloo1257
    @inusprinsloo1257 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would like to see your equivalent drill for the driver!
    When placing the ball back in its normal position, where do you focus? At the ball, or at a spot where the ball was for the drill?

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The driver video is on my channel 👍🏼

  • @jimgift8107
    @jimgift8107 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Please clarify. Your video shows that you are hitting these balls off a downhill lie. In addition to moving the ball forward are you also hitting off a downhill lie?
    thanks, Jim

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s no quick fix to playing better golf on the course. The only way to improve your swing on the course is via a lot of practice away from the golf course. Using a practice drill tailored to your game is the most efficient way to improve your swing 👍🏼

    The only question I have is why would you not do this all of the time? I realize there may be some situations, ball in divot or deep rough where it wouldn't be practical.

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could certainly do that if you feel confident enough on the course with it! Absolutely some situations it won’t be ideal

    I disagree with one part of this drill. My father in law swings severely over the top. An outside/in path actually makes it easier to hit the ball with it forward in your stance. The club will bottom out further forward, if you're over the top. However... This drill is perfect for someone like me, who tends to get too flat, and drops the right shoulder too soon through impact. You instructors always encourage "rotation" through impact, but a lot of people misconstrue this for "shoulder rotation" which causes them to come over the top.
