    I’m really glad you guys talked about the Europa mission launch to explore the moon. That is a way bigger deal than most people are thinking it is. We might have to wait another seven years before we see what it gives us but I think once we get those first images it’s going to be awesome. A part of me was really hoping that they would launch something that would land on the moon but I’ll take what they’re doing.

    Eventually, nanotechnology will be so advanced that they will be able to break down any material into it's substituent parts (molecules or atoms), store those atoms in pure form, and then also build anything at any time out of those molecules or atoms. It would essentially be like star trek replicators. Just high speed 3d printing with atoms and molecules. This can potentially cause a post scarcity society, as waste can be turned into food or anything else.

      That's an interesting thought, but it sounds a bit sci fi. The binding energy for heavy elements means that to break them down it releases a huge amount of energy - that's how nuclear power works. It also releases a lot of radiation, so these nanobots would need to be able to survive those conditions.
      Then there's atoms with low binding energy, which take a huge amount of energy to split. And this is even after you begin breaking down molecules into said atoms.
      I doubt humanity would ever coexist with this level of tech. Either we wipe ourselves out, this kind of nano tech does, or we aren't considered human.

    The context for the Europa quote is that it's from the sequel to 2001: a Space Odyssey. In that story, Jupiter becomes a sun due to the intervention of the Black Monolith. The Monolith also seems to have triggered the evolution of life on Europa. The message from the Monolith is a warming that the new life on Europa is protected.

Just remember that if you "don't believe in tipping".

    There is a theory that the first potentially immortal human has already been born based on the technological and medical advances society has developed.
    The downside is that this planet is becoming less sustainable due to shifts in climate and depletion of natural resources, consumption and that which is overall relevant to the Doomsday Clock.
    As much as I can appreciate the ability for AI to become conscious and intelligent beings alongside humans, I am very interested in how we will evolve to a point where our consciousness can be transferred into an artificial body.
    Hopefully we will see a change in our world culture and become a more intelligent and unified species so that we can provide our future generations with a healthier and safer planet.

    Yeah, glue traps are definitely not good for a multitude of reasons. Not only do the animals suffer when they die and not just through starvation and dehydration. They are also indiscriminate in what they catch. So anything that comes by to eat what died or happens on it by accident also gets caught and or gets glue all over them.

  • @Techstriker1

    The AI talk reminds me of the old Door Monster skit about Ikea AI: "DYI AI". Just the idea an AI just does not care about existing and self destructs immediately upon coming into existence.

  • @rdizzy1
    @rdizzy1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Sticky traps should be banned nationwide, not only because you kill animals via starvation or dehydration, but because you have no control over what ends up caught in those sticky traps. You can potentially end up having endangered snakes or lizards or something else caught in those traps. I know someone who had a kitten die while they were on vacation because it got caught up in a sticky trap and died. Use normal high strength plastic snap traps, they are re-usable as well.

      I mean... They left a kitten alone while they went on vacation. Traps or no traps, that's asking for a tragedy.
      The point of glue traps is you're meant to check them. If you don't check a no-kill trap, then you're starving the animal to death anyway. Irresponsible people aren't a reason to ban them.

    2:27 You don't pull the tail, you push down on the neck to dislocate the skull bone from the first cervical vertebra. That's the fastest and most humane way to kill mice. You generally fixate the mouse by the neck with the one hand and tail with the other hand is the most common. Pulling the tail can break the spine halfway which causes intense pain. Pulling the tail gently will make sure you get the first vertebral by stretching the spine a little bit.

    The tele-operation work from home thing was the first thing I thought of when I saw the Tesla event. And that is definitely going to be a thing for a few years. But Niko is totally wrong about the time frame to move to AI controlling the robot. For many simple tasks Tesla is actually less than a year away, and more complex tasks could be within two or three years. But the work from home remote labor will be a thing that happens for a few years and helps train the AI for these tasks.

      Ah, the classic elon "two years away" has rubbed off on you eh.
      The robotics of replicating human dexterity hasn't even been solved yet. We can automate some repetitive tasks but we don't need humanoid robots for that. For what Niko is talking about - having an AI clean or look after your kids, and do a good job of it, is a long way off.
      The most advanced robots that Boston dynamics sell, who have had a headstart on Tesla's robotics team by over 2 decades now make is a quadraped which can navigate and open doors, not much more. And it costs tens of thousands of dollars.

    ALL OF THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS....... is 2010, not 2001.
    Self-driving is actually far, far more complex than housekeeping. Which gets even more complex with higher speeds. With housekeeping you are in complete control and likewise have the opportunity to correct a behavior in the moment. Unlike self driving where if the car runs over a person that's it damage done no time to correct it and the moment has passed. ANd the service industry is already moving towards full automation. Outback Steakhouse now uses the same grills that McDonnalds uses. Put the meat on, select the cut and degree of doneness with a touch screen hit a big button. On a plate in about 4 minutes ready to eat in 6. It's why I left the industry as the pandemic hit.

      I feel like automating the amount by which you cook a pre-cut and portioned piece of generic fast food meat is something we probably could've done in the 80's with a couple big chunky buttons and a set of timers, I dunno if that's a useful sort of analog for the job of the person still which is to perform all of the intermediary functions between these different machines that are often from a bunch of different companies

    • @l_..l.l.__l..l8833
      @l_..l.l.__l..l8833 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They're different engineering problems but I do believe that housekeeping to the standard of a human is a very difficult problem. Don't underestimate how much dexterity and adaptability you use in tasks like that just because it's subconscious. Our arms are more capable in terms of responding to stimuli and performing delicate tasks at a human scale than anything we've built.

    um, this is kind of an 'um actually' but it's more of a fun fact 34:00 space isn't empty! heat transfer IS possible as vacuums aren't completely empty but it's just very very slow. There is the problem that if you are in a vacuum and unprotected by something like our star, the rare particles/atoms that DO hit you are probably going VERY fast and are likely very hot. But yes he's correct that you don't freeze in space. You're more likely to explode due to the pressure in your body and the lack of pressure outside. Not an expert here, just an ex-physicist

(yes, it's parent company is the Chinese company ByteDance, laundered through Singapore, yet it is banned.) However, they have a much more censorable version. That is the one that China's citizens are using. (same with TH-cam, Facebook, Twitter/X, WeChat, and so on) It's part of their "Great Firewall" setup. I’m writing a series of short stories that cover the concept of medically induced “eternal life”. And, in turn the societal repercussions of that being implemented as both a choice and non-choice. I’m mainly focused on effects on an individual and a collective per story. Hope to be able to publish them to a website soon. Very interesting to research the topic as well comment below if you’d like any of the resources I have found.

    Gotta ask. Why does Christian get his own camera? I mean, if he speaks show his angle but if not there’s no reason it should be switching to him? 🤔

    24:16 Do any of his biographies go over how he is an absent father to like 12 or 13 children? And how his daughter changed her last name so as not to be associated with him anymore and called him out for making up memories of her when talking about her being trans? Or how he didn't found tesla but just bought the company from two engineers and created a position at the company named "founder" to be known as a founder of Tesla even though it's not the case?
    edit: oh I forgot to bring up all of the sexual assault allegations against him, anti union stuff and racism at his factories...

    1:04:50 This isn't true at all. People like Alex Jones had millions of subscribers, whether you like him or not. If youtube was just "serving the audience what it liked" he would now have many millions more by now. Instead TH-cam took a stance and changed what the audience can and can't see by banning him and hundreds of other people. Then you have the plethora of other rules which allowed creators must abide by, rules on speech, violence, gore, etc. Then there are the news channels which can show violent videos and the individual creators who use their footage get demonetized for being too violent. So youtube heavily curates what kind of videos youtubers can make and which videos are popular with their ToS and algorithm.

    Tesla will outsource to India, and people with these Robots will be yelling "get operator!" after the thing drops their dishes enough time to switch to a "cheaper" human controlled remote labor.*

    When I was a teenager, me and my friend filmed a short movie on mini-DV tape in the basement of my apartment building, it had a lot of long corridors. We called the movie "Korridoren", Swedish for "The Corridor" and it had some yank CGI and all that but I find it funny that it is kinda the spirit of what Corridor Digital is both in name and field. I'm always reminded of those times when Niko is talking about the early days with him and Sam. Sadly my movie is probably lost media, except the raw footage which I still have on the original DV-tape.

    The way Wren talks about his feelings towards Elon and how they’ve changed over time is EXACTLY how so many people feel and I wish it wouldn’t be like that….

    • @Zirp-
      @Zirp- 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      That's because you get your information through the media.
      It's easy to hate someone, it's hard to learn who they are.
      Instead of being like "I hate Elon because *insert reason*".
      Try to learn what, why or if Elon *insert reason* happened.
      Once you start applying this practice to the things and people you are taught to hate through the media, you start to see the virtue signalers that just want to get a hit of the hate acknowledgement pipe and don't really care if they are right or wrong.

      @@VaeldargWhat? People like me? Did Tesla/Elon deny climate change after leaving California?
      I feel like he has been very consistent over the years that climate change is an experiment we would rather not fuck around and find out with, and instead we should just go the route of transitioning to clean renewable energy as best we can without ruining our quality of life short term. I agree with him.
