The most beautiful musical moment I've ever witnessed. There's nothing that could touch my soul the way this has. Truly incredible! I can feel my heart beating in my ears, the emotion this brings is something else!
Oh Joni , I listened and sang and smoked with you all those years. Now I am 73 listening to you with tears streaming down my face…. God Bless you my Hero ☮️💟
This performance I think is the final word on how incredible this woman and her songs are. She and her music will transcend and live on as long as music is still being played.
@@johnandkathleenodonnell4130 if we take the word ‘final’ as being non-literal and more a statement on the fact that nothing more needs to be said or done to support or demonstrate her brilliance then I think you might just understand the gist of my comment…
mad skill - accompanying someone with regular rhythm is enough of a challenge... but you just never know where Joni is going...makes her unique, but the poor accompanist must be sharp! :-)
I was married to a Canadian girl for 36 years and this was our song and she passed away from a massive heart attack and I've never been quite the same. thank you Joni thank you ladies. thank you, music
Death of a loved one is never easy, but such an abrupt and unexpected loss is a trauma many can't understand and, of course, no decent human being would wish that understanding on anyone. I hope that, in time, your grief will lessen and you find more smiles coming to your face when you remember her and how fortunate you were to have your paths intersect and intertwine for so long.
Joni was there with us in Mexico 1972, My friend Mark Edwards and I drove a 67 Mustang from Worcester Ma. to Oaxaca Mexico. Mark had a really nice portable cassette player, and on this fantastic adventure, Mark played "Court and Spark" everyday for six months. Still my favorite Joni Mitchell album. God bless you, Joni Mitchell.
Dear lord, tears for Joni's beauty, the heartbreak, the ravages of life and ecstacy of life. I can only think that it's all come to this moment. Brandi . . . no words for the gifts you've given to Joni!
The arrangement of this song for Joni's rich, wise voice and Brandi's spellbinding range and tone is unearthly. Thank you Joni for writing, and Brandi for shepherding, this music back to us again.
There's some place where they all are together in this performance. You can't write composition like this. It is simply a group of unbelievably talented musicians locking on to the same wavelength and performing like this. I'm blown away every time I come back to listen to this
I've never heard a more beautifully performed arrangement of this song. The pianist is also singing over some of Joni's lyrics. He does a beautiful job.
I cry every time I watch this.... Joni, there is no one that can compare to you... I'm so happy for your return to the stage and I hope I will see you again soon
They loved her so much. To come from a quiet room, painting and thinking, and smoking cigarettes, to all of this unexpected love and adoration must have been uniquely validating and overwhelming. These songs were recorded about 50 years ago. If it were me, I would have thought they would have forgotten all about this music and me. But, no. They were singing along and applauding her essence. Music is timeless, and so is Ms. Joni Mitchell.
Her smile is so lovely and it does have an element of disbelief and surprise in it when the audience applauds. It is very touching and your comment is as well 💕
If you were of age back then...you'd know her words penetrated into our DNA and hard drive like few other words so rare. Her lyrics sometimes float around freely when I need something to say....Yes, they were 50 years ago, but for most of her audience, they would have been around 20 at that time, so it goes round like that. I doubt she thought they would have forgotten. I sang along at her concert in 1976, I was 28.
I think I love her voice now, it's so much deeper and huskier. I would love to hear an album of her previous songs and the voice she has now. It's like butter!
...and the pianist is also singing over Joni's lyrics after @1:45 and he sings almost so seamlessly you almost don't notice his voice over some of Joni's lyrics. Such a talented group of musicians...
Sometimes music catches in your throat. As you clear the fog, tears are shaken loose. Something so beautiful and honest about this. Doesn’t hurt that it’s one of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung.
Her songs touches me more and more - maybe I had to grow up and become, well, 50 till I learned to appreciate and listen to this wonderful woman. I am 60 now, I hope next generation will also find her
Saw her Newport… she still has I t going on, such. Sweet soul… I hope David Crosby is waiting for her at the gates heaven. Peace !!! Without her there would be no CSN&Y. I glad she has people around her that love and care for her. My picture of me is 30 years ago. Same but VERY WHITE HAIR what’s left of it.
The unrelinquished joy that you can see on the musicians' faces, whilst they are performing with Joni, is spellbinding. Respect, joy and love resonates through this entire performance.

really spectacular. when people get older and their range drops, it often doesn't do good things for them. What has happened with Joni's voice is the opposite. It is three dimensionally wonderful and warm, and she has wonderful taste in just how to use it.
Beyond beautiful. 😭 lost my husband 4 months ago…it’s so hard being human. Thank you, Joni…and all of these amazing musicians for creating a little heaven on earth. ❤

Yes johnny was the voice of my youth as well... And Now that I am seventy years old, She is my inspiration and the voice of these precious seasons left to me.❤
Why this still sounds as good as it did 50+ years ago, is the combination of the pure beauty of the minor key chords and the soaring melody, together with words of absolute honesty expressing innocent, but nevertheless still wise, love. Such combinations do not happen often in music, but when they do they are timeless and will last forever.
I have watched this numerous times, and I break down crying every time. I'm done music my whole life for a living and have experienced many emotional moments on and off the stage. nothing has ever moved me as much as this. thank you Brandy. John and Carol dady
Both sweet and sad at the same time . Remembering the time I heard her live when young , listening now to the ravages of time and health and loving the artist for not giving up .
I am not easily brought to tears. But this song does it for me. I was fortunate to see her play this many years ago live when she was young and I was just a kid.
Every time I hear this song it stuns me as it did the first time. If you read it on the page you’d be equally as moved but the melody she put it to will ensure that it will stun everyone until there is no more music
You, incredible person, sang me through life. I cried then at the magic of your creative, masterful lyrics and soulful voice. My heart aches, and I cry now from the memories of loves lost, families gone as it was your voice that comforted me as it still does. You are a legend. No one will ever come close to your talent. Someone said Nobel, I agree.
What a beautiful duet with Brandi covering the high ranges Joni no longer 'goes to,' ... and now Joni's deeper, more mature voice adds new depths of wisdom and maturity to the song itself... wonderfully poetic.
Lovely to see the people sharing the stage with this legend were as moved throughout this as I was. Thank you Joni for the music you have given me throughout my life.
One of my favorite songs. Explains life completely. With happiness comes great sadness as well. I’ve had my happiness. Sadness is what’s left, but it is what makes my life so complete like a wine with so many flavors to taste. Good bless. Thank Joni for all her work
The song arrangement, the warmth and lovely reception from the crowd, everyone on stage in support of this marvelous woman and of course Joni's wise and aged voice accompanied by brandi's angelic vocals brings me to tears every time time I watch this video. With your face sketched on it twice
Oh, you are in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh I would still be on my feet
Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid
I remember that time you told me, you said
Love is touching souls
Surely you touched mine cause
Part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
I met a woman, she had a mouth like yours, she knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds and she said
Go to him, stay with him if you can
But be prepared to bleed
But you are in my blood, you're my holy wine
You're so bitter, so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, oh darling
And I would still be on my feet
I would still be on my feet
