During our hundreds of cleanups at Arcade Creek, we often encounter folks who know nothing about the creek … its name, where it originates, that its waters flow unfiltered all the way to the Pacific Ocean, or that it has become a literal landfill in so many sections.
Well, we are working hard to erase these unknowns … to ensure we aren’t cleaning 🎶Where the (Creeks) Have No Name🎶
On Wednesday, a Dirty Dozen converged on Arcade Creek at Norwood for our 15th cleanup of that section this year. The result was truly extraordinary. With the help of an excavator, operator Luke and dump truck driver Elvin supplied by American River Flood Control District, our daily haul was truly MASSIVE. So massive that we don’t have final dump numbers yet. [𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄: 𝟑 𝐝𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟏𝟔,𝟗𝟔𝟎 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬!!!]

What a great help that digger, and of course driver, were in moving all the heavy items. Let’s hope you can use them again.
As of right now, we only have access to the excavator and its operator once per month. So we'll be back at it digging trash out by hand starting again this Saturday.
I love what you are doing. I am curious though, where have these homeless folks gone to?
Most of the camps are still present, nearby. They have to move higher, out of the lower floodplain, in the winter months. If you watch some of our earlier Norwood videos, you’ll see lines of homeless camps with trash cascading into the creek from them.
