Arcade Creek Cleanup @ Norwood 34.0 with ARFCD, 9/11/24

- On Wednesday morning, Luke and Victor from American River Flood Control District joined 10 of us to tackle a new Arcade Creek @ Norwood spot near the bike trail bridge. Wow, we were fortunate to have the equipment as this stretch turned out to be the most insanely, deeply trashed waterway channel we have ever seen in Sacramento. A couple of sharp turns in the creek, combined with some downed trees, left a massive 5-6 foot deep dam of trash, mostly buried by ensnared sand and silt.
In a little over 3 hours, the united team removed a staggering 19,180 lbs of trash and encampment debris, including 20 mattresses, 14 shopping carts, more than a dozen buried tents, 2 couches, 50-75 large textiles (blankets/sleeping bags/comforters) and so, SO much more. 😔 This event brought our Norwood weight total to over 313,000 lbs. Just think … without us, this would all still be in the creek. 🤯
Sadly, we estimate there is another million pounds in this 1.25 mile project area, but we will stay the course and continue begging the City to address this travesty. Please help us convince them to prioritize this important ecological corridor.
