    Outstanding! Music selection was very soothing. Thank you. Your Finnish humour is showing through again. 7:34 "Plan A" on a black screen. Where could this be going? After Plan C we discover again this Opel is a gift that just keeps on giving. LOL. The lead solder you removed at 9:35, done at the factory? The crate at 23:10 contains the rebuilt engine. YES? Thank you for posting

    • @GT1900garage
      @GT1900garage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the compliments..yes, the whole project has been swapping between Plan A to B to C...
      Solder was not from the factory. The bottom half of the door skin was changed and it was done ok, but the frame underneath was not worth saving..So the solder was from previous fix..
      Engine? what engine..? But anyway, wrong guess...Next episode will tell you..

    If Opel had put as much effort into rustproofing the car as they did into attaching the door skins, you would be much further along, LOL. A few tips on your new sandblast cabinet (I own one just like what you have). 1) Get lots of the plastic sheets that protect the cover. They get abraded quickly and no way to bring them back to clarity. They aren't that expensive. 2) Replace the blast nozzle with a ceramic nozzle. The steel nozzles do not last for any period of time. 3) If you use the cabinet indoors, attach a shop vac to the cabinet to remove dust. 4) Your blast media degrades and gets "polluted" over time so plan on replacing it periodically.
    The car is really starting to look good.

    • @GT1900garage
      @GT1900garage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. Yes. the door skin was very well welded in...therefore the Plan C tried to avoid another skin removal...
      About the cabinet: 1: with the package there were 5 pcs of those plastic covers. But I have plans to change the screen to much stronger material...it is wobbly and does not even seal the edges... 2: it does have ceramic nozzle
      3: yes, I will..But this short blast was ok to do outside. 4: good tip, I will change media periodically...

    I can now see why there was such a gap from the last episode to this one. Man, those are some rusty doors! Back in 2008, I was looking at a freshly restored Opel GT. All the body work done, all the mechanicals done - it just needed interior work. The asking price was $3000 US. Seeing what these cars now sell for.... I should have bought it.

      Hi there, thanks again for the comment and views. Actually I had a complete one month break from the project.. I needed it...Yes, there are lot of these kinda " I should have" cars in the past.. When I was 16, local used car dealer had a burned Porche 911 for 10000 Finnish Marks ( thats like 2000€)...I could have restored that and it would be worth 50000€ now....I should have....

      I have an idea..Put way too much money to a classic car that turns out to be the rustiest one ever, than decide that since you have paid it already, you might as well fix it properly... That is how one could improve their patience and perseverance 😂😂

      Because of your restoration, preservation, improvement and the show biz provenance of this particular GT, may enable it ultimately to outlive other more pristine examples, all of which are subject to the unimproved drainage and myriad other corrosion issues solved here.

      Thanks for the comment. Yes. Opel GT is car with low production numbers, therefore there are not big panels throughout the car, but instead small panels stitched together. Lot of seams, therefore prone to rust. The grey pain is industrial 2K epoxy primer. and the red one is weldthrough acid based paint for surfaces to contact another plate. Yellow cabinet is for sand (and soda) blasting.

      Sorry, missed this comment. The grey is 2K epoxy primer for heavy machinery. Super strong, but also flexible, so it wont crack even if the car body is flexing...red paint is just quality rust stop paint that can be welded through. I use it for the overlapping panel seams, that need to be plug welded. Seams are still protected with epoxy when all the welds are done..

    • @GT1900garage
      @GT1900garage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello to Oslo.. The counter is actually my brother did to me for the project...interested?
      The light grey is 2K industrial epoxly, very strong and flexible paint. The red one is weld through rust agent paint, good for surfaces that are in closed contact - and weldable...It does not burn like epoxy does..

    • @4RnrMatt
      @4RnrMatt 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GT1900garage Yes, interested. When i was a apprentice in 86 to 89 we used a brown very rought "color" on every steel construktion we build as base or simple transport color, my sand blasting guy Jarle has it sometimes to, but the painter we use to work with at home says everything 1k, primer, spray, base sucks water. And than i think you used only the 2K epoxy in the beginning of your series in all the closed areas. Dont want to intrude, only looking for lessons to make my work better., and the Land Cruiser lasting a little bit longer.

      There are as many opinions as there are people. I did use 2k epoxy, but that burned out leavin ash, and other residue between metal. So I can beat it during welding..also I do have access to lay decent layer of 2K epoxy inside...

    • @GT1900garage

      Thanks for the comment and question. I was really happy about the door skin fix since it was very complicated to do since I did not have access to the other side of the weld to beat it flat after welding. I did this patch welding during a time period of 8 hours, so only five spots at the time, each 7cm apart. After welding I did let it cool, then grind it flat and welded a spot next to it in such way it touched about half or the previous spot. Thus I was able to do solid welds without warping... The rear window I did have some warping when doing the vent grill as a separate, but I heated it and bent it back..

      If I can, I hold a block of aluminium on the other side of the weld, which seems to work. However, sometimes it is just impossible to reach the other side of the weld with the aluminium block.
