Additive Manufacturing represents a new model in the way parts and products are produced. Additive Manufacturing, also known as AM, basically consists of manipulating material on a micrometric scale and depositing it in a very precise way to build a solid element.
As César Pérez, coordinator of the Node and Technology Director at LORTEK, tells us, the Additive Manufacturing Node offers a wide range of additive manufacturing technologies, both in polymers and metals, to meet the needs of Basque industry. These horizontal technologies can be applied in a wide variety of sectors, from the health industry (creating implants or personalised prostheses) to the automotive or aeronautical sectors, where it is increasingly necessary to manufacture lighter parts that behave in the same way as traditional ones.
In this way, the Node offers diagnostic and experimental services. Diagnostic services focus on checking the viability of products and processes, a process that can last between one or two weeks. Experimentation, on the other hand, involves testing to find out which material is best suited to the needs of each product or process. This type of study requires a longer period than diagnosis, between one and four months approximately.
