    Great video Nate. A good explanation on how the rock was impeded in the sole. As a person that provides sand to dairy farms I know how important it is to keep rocks and other contaminates out of our loads. These cows can be huge, and even small rocks on concrete floors can be a hazard.

  • @superdill6665

    I gotta say it. I've been watching Graeme's videos for a year or so now. Then today you showed up in my recommendations! I was so happy to have another hoof trimmer to watch. I'm not sure why I find this so fascinating. I was raised on a cattle ranch, but beef cattle usually don't need this service. (Our horses did, but we did that chore ourselves.) I was never around dairy cattle except for the ones over the years that we kept as a milk cow. So anyway, ya got a new subscriber today, Nate. I hope U.S. dairies are as fascinating as the ones in Scotland I've been watching.
    God bless 💜

    Hi there I'm John from England I just want to say I think people need to let you do your job instead of putting down stupid comments thinking they know best when they don't you're a vet you've trained for this and you've done this hundreds of times before so anyone reading this don't put any stupid comments just let this guy do what he's doing he knows what he's doing he does it successfully and carry on and he's really good to see the end result which is the cows not in discomfort anymore or in pain carry on knife the hoof Guy

      @john0597 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I know that I know you ok he's not a vet but he just does the trimming of the herbs but still it still the fact of the matter is that people are telling him what you should do and how he should do it he's been doing this long enough but just to give you a little education lesson you still have to train to do these sort of things dimwit you or me couldn't just go up to a cow and start doing what he does because we wouldn't have a clue and we probably end up injuring the towel so you do have to have training and what I'm saying all the people sending you messages and saying why don't you do this or why don't you do that they should just keep quiet because they're not trained in doing that ok bloody Americans

    I mean, I dont blame the cow for being nervous. Her foot already hurts, then she goes in a box, a bunch of straps go around her body and leg, and a human starts messing around with her sore foot. I dont know much about cow cognition, but I wonder if they have enough cause and effect to understand "go in box, human messes with foot = foot feels better".

    Epoxy?!! Why not cement? 😂 Lots of great suggestions from the gallery. Seriously, though, that was a very sharp rock. Do dairy farmers have to rake the area of the barn floor for rocks, or is it just a routine hazard that cows can pick up rocks? I assume that it's not as much of a problem in the pasture because the rock is more likely to sink into the soft ground than into the cow's hoof. Ouchie, though. Poor cow. I hope she heals well so the corkscrew can be fixed in future trimmings. Good video, Nate, as usual.

    1:10 I am more invested in seeing this hidden rock than I am of any earth-devastating asteroid that might be approaching. Priorities.

    Great job, would a wire brush help to get the debris off?

    This might be a silly question, but do cows get stones in their soles purely because of how heavy they are? I've gotten stones stuck in my shoes countless times, is this the same sort of thing or are the different layers of hoof more or less susceptible to getting stones stuck in them?

    Thanks to Nate, whenever I see another hoof trimmer hosing down a foot before they start trimming, I'm like "pssh. amateurs."

    Nate - Is this treatment covered in the farm’s contract with you for hoof care, or do you charge extra for more involved trims that may include follow-ups?
