KENT -- A Kent Police Officer is due to receive an award for his quick thinking during a otherwise normal school day.
Student Xavier Hunter collapsed in the hallway of Kent Meridian High School, on the morning of Nov. 6. He was unconscious, and his heart was "slowing down."
Ofc. Scott Rankin grabbed an automated external defibrillator, or AED, from his car and shocked Hunter. He then performed CPR until medics arrived.
Hunter, a 16-year-old KMHS sophomore, was rushed to the hospital, and after an emergency procedure, is now back at school.
The Kent School District and Kent Fire Department will honor Rankin at the Board Meeting on Wednesday the 12th, at 7:30 p.m.
