I think the "oh I messed up" at 59:55 is possibly because they cracked both LEDs to pay the flashback cost for Past in Flames (and you even said you were surprised when they did it); if they hadn't cracked both then they might have been able to pay for the pact

This deck is probably my favorite you’ve featured in a while. Yet another way to break the pacts Edit: is this the delver counter the meta needs? Weirdly positive results against it
The sudden substitution is actually great against delver because of the split second, otherwise this thing would fall apart to delver. However, this is in no way a “delver killer.” Delver can often kill/stop a player from getting to four mana. If this thing actually becomes meta, then delver will devote 2 slots to it. We should take player skill into account, Bosh knows delver inside and out, fetches and uses cantrips near-perfectly. He holds nonbasics in hand and leverages ancient tomb to bank on the split second to blast through. If this deck ever becomes good enough to be meta, a delver player as good as him will know exactly what to target. The problem is that delver has such pushed cards it can handle the blow-outs and disadvantages. You steal delver with sudden substitution and they have to daze your pact to survive: usually that’s a great, interesting exchange that puts you ahead with a 2-for-one. They untap, put their land down, play 7/7 murktide with two cards left in hand. You keep delver up, then blast in their upkeep to play around fon. They play iteration, force, or another murktide and they pull out of the disadvantage or win. Substitution gives you advantage no matter what, but that advantage is hard to leverage when you’re finding the next volley and delver’s cards are so pushed that everything they play is “advantage.” A hard to remove 8/8 flyer for two is advantage all on its own. Seems like a fair fight at least tho

Sudden substitution is such a fun spell. Its in the Kadena commander precon. I once cast a giant villanous wealth and my opponent reverberated it, then I stole the copy with sudden substitution giving me two giant villanous wealth. I somehow still lost that game though.
I freaking love Sudden Substitution! I play a lot of commander and put it into most of my decks. Give away your mana dorks for your opponents' bombs or give away brainstorms for big fatties. The card is so fun and sneaky good.
There is no feeling worse than cracking your fetch on turn one and your opponent cracking theirs in response because you KNOW the stifle is coming for you and you question your entire life up to that point
So an angle I was thinking about, is Vs must resolve non creature spells, cast Pact of the Titan, then Sudden swap with your Titan token. It probably won’t come up often, but would be a hilarious way to fumble a reanimate for Gristlebrand ex..
sudden substitution is so insane against delver. Basically counts as removal + free creature every time, and when its on your pact it demands the counterspell. Thats a three for two which they basically can't beat.
Yeah, probably. That 4/4 wins the game immediately when I execute my combo. Denying them resources improves my ability to set up that combo. 4/4s can be removed easily. Pact triggers cant. If I go for a 4/4 and they counter Stifle I just lose immediately.
I really want to build this deck! I was always a fan of Hive Mind Combo and when Sudden Substitution came out I immediately thought of the pacts. I just never got around to build the deck. But seeing it actually perform well makes me super excited.
17:57 I could swear that exchanging control does pul it out of combat. There's a card like from strixhaven commander that exchanges control and it pulls the creature out of combat. (Not as a line of rules text on the card)
The wording on sudden substitution exchanges control between the noncreature spell and the creature. since both invigorate and glistener elf are oppo's, nothing would happen.
as someone who likes janky combos, mono colors, and big creatures on turn one (used to sling mono black reanimator back in the day), this deck is the juice i need rn
Missed a Sudden Substitution play around 32:00. They cast Bolt, you cast FoW. You said you can give them your FoW if they try to counter it. But you can just plain give them your FoW. No rule against it, still counters the bolt even if they control it!
It wouldn't necessarily still counter the bolt though since they can change the target of FoW to Sudden Sub. He would still get the creature though so you're right that he should have done that.

I loved playing the original Hive Mind version but it was clunky as a 3 card combo and this version is just fire. Love it!

Exchanging control does remove from combat, but if the same player controls both spells then nothing is changed.

So why can the spell that is being taken control of with Sudden Spoiling be countered, I thought it had Split Second?
Sudden Sub has split second, but the original spell still has to resolve and that one doesn’t.
