This was the visual I needed, thank you. Using a hoola hoop is brilliant.

I participated in one of Mr Barrett’s. Workshops years ago in Columbus Ohio. I never forgot it. Tips for life. Thank you sir.

@@RickBarrettTCA you bet. I later bought your book Tai Chi and The Western Gate. It helped me to gorm not only tools for entry into the internal, but better ways to think about the nebulous bridge between east and west, but more coherent ways to access the imagery for teaching to others. 🙏

You have the right idea about the bodywide connection, but you're obviously not moving any connection with the whole-body/middle ... which is controlled with the dantian (the mingmen is just the back of the dantian). I.e., that means that the whole coordination is off.

Thanks for your comment, Bob. I think you are missing the intention of the video, though. It is a beginner video, a bare-bones introduction to the basic choreography. It doesn't get into the internal connections.

@@RickBarrettTCA I was referring to the way you moved. You obviously don't use the dantian to move. Taijiquan by definition uses the dantian to move the body. My point was that you're correct about a connection (I wouldn't say "tensegrity", since everything is arguably tensegrity, even cell walls), so that's a good route to explore. But it's a lot more complicated than that. Until someone can close their hand with the dantian, it is pointless to talk about it.

You are right about one thing, it is pointless to talk about it. I’m sure you have better ways to employ your many skills.

@@RickBarrettTCA don't worry, it's only Mike Sigman spouting off again lol. This does exactly what it says - a base level intro to silk reeling.
