This year I have very little time, and I'm very burnt out. I feel guilty that I stopped watching a lot of content, even from friends' channels, but with so little time, I need something that is a refuge where one can relax and not need to focus on technical information and that are short videos, and that refuge is this channel. Thanks John, keep playing it loud. Merry Christmas!
This was a fun video. When growing up, the only times that I remember playing cards were at swim meets and on the school bus (note that my commute to high school was an hour each way). I'm definitely more of a retro gamer, but I do love it when puzzle solving elements are added to things that you wouldn't ordinarily expect them to be added to, and I definitely think that's the case here. Thanks to John for taking the time to share this with us.
Some games are like food, sometimes you need something good to satisfy that desire and this game does it for some. Great content as always! Thanks John!
Loved the videos this year John. Not necessarily a fan of the really old consoles but your content is engaging and loving getting the status of the VCS exclusively from this channel. Thank you.
Astro Bot was astonishing, but Balatro is easily my most played game of the year. I hadn’t been a roguelike guy, but it sucked me right in. Soon after, I got into Returnal and dropped 100 hours in that. It was a good year!
This looks pretty interesting. As someone who plays alot of trading card games, like Magic the Gathering, the combo aspect appeals to me. And this looks like it has some nice depth of gameplay. I'll certainly check it out!
Merry Christmas to you and your family, John! I’ve been giving all my time to Indiana Jones this past week but I will definitely check this out; been loving all the card games being released the past few years.
Guys it’s on apple arcade as well! I went with my kids into playhouse and I thought that my bag with analgoue pocket and switch was in my car. I was hoping to have some gaming time finally, as it’s my first day from being out from work. When we entered the building I realised a left the bag with consoles at home :( thank God I saw John’s video yesterday - I checked whether this game is on apple arcade - and boom! There it was! Playing it now and Im happy because it’s indeed a great game! Thanks John, you are my savior!
I watched this video earlier this afternoon, immediately bought the game and I just got done playing it like 5 hours later. Great simple chill fun! Thanks IJH!
Balatro is my 2024 game of the year as well. This game got me addicted when it came out and still playing it today (I have it on Switch and Mobile). Astro Bot and Metaphor are my second and third favorite games this year but definitely my most played game in 2024 was Balatro.
Steam tells me that I've been running it for 2015 hours...although I leave it up pretty much all the time and will play a few hands when I need a 10 minute break from work.
YAYYYYY! The Immortal has drunk the Balatro Kool-Aid! I really do feel like it takes a special gamer to love this one, someone willing to lose enough to then be able to win? AWESOME 🎉
Prior to this year’s Game Awards, I’ve never even heard of this game. Great video (as always), and it genuinely showed me WHY this game was/is so popular!
You're not wrong John. I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with this game... BUT I've bought it on Switch, PS5, and can also play it on my iOS devices (Balatro+ is on Apple Arcade) too. I can't think of one thing I don't like about it. Even when you win a run you get that itch in the back of your head that says "I built a good deck but next time I can do it BETTER" and you try again. So much fun!
I heard some good things about this game at one of the local game stores here in St. Louis. Just purchased a physical PS5 copy from Amazon for $25. Can't wait to give it a try in a couple of days.
I bought it on Steam, wondered why my forearm hurt the next day, realised I'd been hammering this game with the mouse. Found out it was available on iOS so bought it for the iPad. Works great on mobile. Happy to support an Indie developer and his back-story is worth checking out. This was originally created to be a demo for his CV and he didn't expect to sell more than 6 or so. Apart from Hearthstone I'm no fan of card games but this is Game Of The Year for me as well.
I start with Flushes and pivot from there depending on the Jokers. Sometimes staying on this strategy and manipulating your deck in that direction is enough. Get up to 25 cash ASAP to max the interest, find a gameplan and stick to it is my best advice.
I TOTALLY get why this is fun, and I can totally seemyself getting into playing it, but I’m laughing to myself watching it cause I can imagine its so hard to make it look fun lol.
I voted for Balatro in every category for The Game Awards 2024 including Game of the Year. I absolutely love this game with a huge passion, it's really great.
Planet cards are the weakest of all cards. Important, sure but the weakest. Tarot cards are much more important for economy and strengthening cards. Spectral cards are the most powerful cards that aren't jokers. Joker ORDER matters. Chip +, Chip x, and X multipliers, are a general rule of order.

Thanks! I am glad to be a refuge for you.
John ...your Gaming Channel is absolutely awesome & I always look forward to all your upcoming Videos. You defintely deserve alot more Subscribers. ❤
Thanks! I am just happy to still do videos after all these years. I am really enjoying this game :)
I've heard so many good things about this game. I need to pick it up. Thanks for the video, John!
Don't pick it up, its too addicting. im not joking.

This is one of those channels that always reminds me of Christmas spirit!

Thanks a ton, best of wishes and a happy new year for you and all the hancock family. Huge fan!

I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
I totally agree. Infinite replay value. And the music is so relaxing. I downloaded a 20 minute track of it. lol.

I'm here because i dont understand the popularity. Great video, John!
Happened the same to me, bought the game and then I wasn't been able to drop it, very addictive.
I felt this way at first. Base your builds around either full houses or flushes.
Steam tells me that I've been running it for 2015 hours...although I leave it up pretty much all the time and will play a few hands when I need a 10 minute break from work.

Tip- your jokers typically activate left to right. Double check they're in the right order to maximize their impact!
@@lindsayLLcoolgames This took me way too long to figure out
John it looked silly to me, but when you raved so much... i just ordered it. Thx man
Prior to this year’s Game Awards, I’ve never even heard of this game. Great video (as always), and it genuinely showed me WHY this game was/is so popular!
I love poker and I love video games, so.... I gotta check this out some time. Thanks IJH!
Awesome 👍 good job 👍 keep up the good work 👍👍!!
Thank you! 👍
I actually got this not too long ago and have been loving it as well. Good call
I don’t like poker, and I don’t like roguelikes, but I can’t stop playing Balatro.
I have the same with Star Wars Pinball on Switch.
I love hat game too
i love card games..not many people give them a chance but if they do they will find them very relaxing to play.

This game has become my biggest time sink since I picked it up. So awesome!

Let's play with IJH! One can really feel the joy you're having playing this. More gameplay content please.
Good choice!

I play on my RG556 and love it! Agreed.

Yeah I have almost 300 hours on this game. If I am not playing Balatro, I am watching videos on Balatro.
I like Gin Rummy but am willing to give this a go.
You you recommend the physical or digital for switch.can get it 20 pounds physical
Apparently, you can play balatro in "Dave the Diver."
I agree. Playing on phone right now.
I grabbed this for my new phone on Thursday and I already have like 20-30 hours in it. Whoops!
I’m still on the fence, but your endorsement helps 🤟🏻
If I've never even played Poker, could I get into this ?
This game is crack.

Thanks for the advice.
30 minute video and I have no idea how you actually play or what the goal of the game is ... other than upgrade cards and score points.
Pretty simple you upgrade cards and achieve combos to get a high score. Each round gets more difficult with a higher goal to achieve.
