Another 60s band you need to check out is Spanky & Our Gang-Lazy Day, Like To Get to Know You or sunday will Never Be the Same. Unfortunately for the Outsiders this song overshadowed everything they did. they had one other chart single Girl In Love but that was it-they couldn't repeat the magic of Time won't Let Me.
Yes ! Needed that. "Time Won't Let Me" , one of the greatest hit singles from the swingin' 60s. Dance floor packer ! The amazing singer Sonny Geraci also sang "Precious and Few" with Climax in early 70s.
"The Rain, The Park and Other Things" is still one of my favorite memories from the 60s. I believe the strange title of the song still throws some people off. I heard an interview with Bob Cowsill who mentioned they wanted to call the song "The Flower Girl", but the record company thought listeners would then confuse the song with Scott Mckenzie's "San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Flowers In Your Hair)" . The odd song title didn't prevent "The Rain, The Park.." from becoming a huge '67 hit, however. NOTE TO JAY & AMBER: There is a sub-par re-recorded version of "The Rain, The Park..." and various live versions available on You Tube. Please find a way to avoid these.
Oh my word! What a flashback from the past! I'm 73 and remember this song like it was yesterday.. Thank you so much and we love you guys and your channel!

The Outsiders released 3 studio albums and 1 " live " album. they were around from 1965 thru 1970 when Walt Nimms wrote and recorded Precious and Few with Sonny.
Jay and Amber, you need to come here to Cleveland and see our little Rock and Roll Museum. Another mid 60's group that you might check out is Dino, Desi and Billy. The group featured Dean "Dino" Martin (Dean Paul Martin, the son of singer and actor Dean Martin), Desi Arnaz Jr. (Desiderio Arnaz IV, the son of television stars Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball), and their friend Billy Hinsche.
I agree. Cleveland has some fantastic museums and also has an incredible zoo that is the only place that had koala bears (in the rainforest) and our gorillas just adopted a baby i think from Texas because mommy became ill. It's a huge story on their process. And of course our beloved sports teams!

Forty years ago, I met Sonny on a road trip. We were at the Bonneville Salt Flats, and he was on a BMW motorcycle. He was a great guy.It was amazing that two guys from Northeast Ohio crossed paths like that. I took a picture of him with his bike with his camera and he did the same for me with my camera in front of my car.
I saw the Outsiders in 1966 when they were on tour with Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Lou Christie. The concert was mind blowing, and the Outsiders sounded live and as good as this recording. Sonny's voice was so powerful, clear, and pitch-perfect. An incredible showman. Heartbroken that he passed away in 2017 but I have his albums to cherish. Rest in peace.
I had a business trip in Plano, Texas about 5yrs ago, and I rode with a coworker who insisted on listening to nothing but a 60s radio station. I remember this song blasting from his car stereo. When I hear this song now, I remember that road trip. A fun 60s gem!
That WAS awesome. Though I didn’t remember the name of this group, I remembered every aspect, every note of this song. This was truly a part of the 60s soundtrack all us oldsters have in our hearts. Classic. Thanks for the request and for the reaction. Definitely made me smile!!!
Still another band that you did once but need to do more of is Paul Revere & the Raiders-their 60s hits-Don't Take It so Hard, steppin Out, Hungry, Kicks and too Much Talk.
In the eary 90s I was the road manager for a group who was on a package tour with Sonny Geraci. Totally cool, down to earth guy. Nothing fake about him. May he RIP!
The Outsiders were an American garage band that were part of the American Revolution movement in answer to the British Invasion bands. This was a great one hit wonder that still holds up today. ✌️
OH YEAH !! The subscriber who sent in the request should have prefaced it with "first - PUMP UP the VOLUME !!" This was the best song of my teen years - growing up a bit east of Cleveland. That guitar solo in the middle of the song is the first heavy metal I can recall hearing. Also, if we can I believe my buddies, you have seen that drummer before. They said it was Jim Fox = James Fox = the drummer for another Cleveland rock group -The James Gang. Jay and Amber, many thanks for that song choice.
Another band to check out from Cleveland, Ohio is the Michael Stanley band they were popular in the 70's and 80's. They had some really good songs are like Why this can't be love, Lover or He can't love you.
Yes, great suggestion! I grew up in Cleveland and MSB was THE band in NE Ohio to hear in the late 70's/early 80s, some of their other great tunes from MSB & Michael's solo career; Midwest Midnight, Rosewood Bitters, In the Heartland and Let's Get the Show on the Road, Jay and Amber, you'll enjoy them all!

A classic Garage Rock genre hit from 1966 and The Outsiders' biggest chart success. There's a lot of interesting tidbits about this song -- and the group -- that many may not know, a few examples: that kickass mid-60s organ wasn't even played by a regular band member, but rather a girl from the greater Cleveland area, Gayle Guhde, who was just 16 at the time; the horns were added later, and the trumpet player, John Madrid, was still in high school when it was recorded; lead singer Sonny Geraci would go on to front the band Climax in the '70s, and it's his vocals you hear on their beautiful 1972 smash hit Precious And Few. 😎

Thank you for continuing to feature the playlist of my life. I was 14 in 1964 when music started changing. I grew up with the greatest music of modern times. Love, you guys Peace. ✌️
One of my all time favorite songs EVER! I took art class in high school and one of the projects was to design an album cover. I did one for The Outsiders "Time Won't Let Me."
Sonny Geraci had such a great voice. One of my favorite songs ever. Such a cool happenin song. He later went to Climax in 72, big hit Precious and Few. I'm very surprised with a great voice like his and a performer he wasn't more popular. A shout out to all the band members, great timeless song.
Other US bands kind of like this include the Seeds ("Pushing Too Hard," 1965), the Standells ("Dirty Water," 1965), and the Electric Prunes ("I Had Too Much to Dream," 1966). The Outsiders had a longer history than these bands, dating back to 1958, but all these bands were influenced by the mid-sixties British Invasion bands, especially the Rolling Stones.
This is a single that connoisseurs of 60s hit singles always have in their "best of" lists. It embodies the magic of the pop/rock single - a sub 3 minute concentrate of energy, melody and rhythm with rise and falls and a hook line you can't forget. You're mining gold here guys! "Little Girl" by the Syndicate of Sound next - or perhaps "Mr Dieghingly Sad" by the Critters.
YEAH!!! Finally our NATIVE Sons, yes I am a born and raised CLEVELANDER, and I STILL live here! You should also do another Cleveland group, The CHOIR "IT'S COLD OUTSIDE" and ERIC CARMEN (RIP who passed away recently) who was in the RASPBERRIES. Eric went to the rival high school of my high school, though he was a couple of years behind me in High School. He lived not far from the suburb I live in, it's only a few minutes down the road from where I am. Was REALLY upset when I found out he had died. THANK YOU for reacting to our popular Cleveland band......"The LAND" is what we now call it, and the home of the ROCK AND ROLL HALL of FAME. RIP Sonny Geraci (the lead singer of the OUTSIDERS} So glad I was able to see Sonny perform in more recent years, here.
Great choice, perfectly captures the pop-oriented rock style of the '60s, excellent vocal by Sonny Geraci. The Outsiders were a one-hit wonder, but another upbeat '60s hit that rocks at the same clip is "Judy in Disguise (With Glasses)" by John Fred & His Playboy Band, a #1 hit in 1968. Creative instrumentation, interesting twists and turns -- I think you'll love it!
They had a couple of follow up, hits to this, but neither one was nearly as big as “Time Won’t Let Me.” So while the Outsiders weren’t strictly a one hit wonder, they might just as well have been. Great song though. And I actually liked their follow ups. They just never had the same commercial success as this one did.
Have heard this song a million times since it came out, but got to see the band the first time just now. Thanks y'all. (Loved the guy with the 80's "Seagulls" hair....20 years early.)
Guys there is a band you have missed from ‘60s San Francisco named Quicksilver Messenger Service. Probably their most popular song is “Fresh Air”, but they have a really good catalog also. I’m actually pretty surprised they aren’t suggested more. They started in 1965 and lasted into the mid-70s I think. Maybe some of you older folks could verify their quality.
Here's an L.A. band, Authur Lee and Love, and their song "Seven and Seven is" was released in 1966 which is considered Proto Punk, and it was played along with the Outsiders on 93 KHJ Boss AM Radio in Los Angeles. This was a Fun Year.
73 now...when I was a young man this was my very favorite jam!! nice to see a new generation enjoying it!! 3 songs I always requested, this one , Question Mark & The Mysterians - 96 Tears & Paul Revere & The Raiders - Kicks....still love them all !!
Another great reaction from you guys. This song brings back a memory from my high school days. In late 1966 the Outsiders came to my hometown in NE Oklahoma to play a dance. They had an opening band from Sand Springs who played the first hour then took a 10 or 15 minute break before the Outsiders played their first set. During the break the local band was at a table by the bandstand and I went up to tell them they were good and we talked a bit. One of the band had a portable record player and they listened to a cut from the latest Beatle album "Revolver". The song was "Here, There, and Everywhere". They listened to it 3 or 4 times then The Outsiders took the stage and played their album for 45 minutes - including the hit "Time Won't Let Me". When the Sands Springs guys took the stage they played "Here, There, and Everywhere" and did an incredible job on it! It just blew me away because I knew they hadn't really had time to actually rehearse it. Anyway when The Outsiders came out for their second set they just played the same songs as the first set. Huge disappointment. By the way, the Sands Springs band was the Rogues Five and their drummer was Jamie Oldaker who went on to play with Clapton, Stephen Stills, Freddie King, Leon Russell, JJ Cale, Peter Frampton, the Bee Gees, and many other stars. Years later I saw Clapton in OKC and he talked on stage about having lunch with Jamie in Tulsa earlier that day. What an incredible time it was for the music scene in the Tulsa area. Peace out.
This was awesome! Pride of Cleveland rock and roll. You guys should check out some more Raspberries and The Michael Stanley Band. MSB was legendary in Northeast Ohio. Sadly, Michael passed away a couple of years ago.
I’m sure you’ve listened to some of these, but here’s a list of 1960s American garage rock songs. Mostly American I know Van Morrison from Scotland. 1. "Louie Louie" by The Kingsmen 2. "Psychotic Reaction" by Count Five 3. "Gloria" by Them (featuring Van Morrison) 4. "Dirty Water" by The Standells 5. "Pushin' Too Hard" by The Seeds 6. "Psychotic Reaction" by Count Five 7. "96 Tears" by ? and the Mysterians 8. "Little Girl" by The Syndicate of Sound 9. "Nobody But Me" by The Human Beinz 10. "Talk Talk" by The Music Machine These songs are emblematic of the American garage rock sound of the 1960s.
Most of their albums were filled with covers of other artists, but the Outsiders did have some other hits: "Help Me Girl," "Girl In Love," "I'll Give You Time (To Think It Over), as well as another great original "i'm Not Tyring to Hurt You." As others have said, the singer went on to another band called Climax and another big hit with "Precious and Few." "Time Won't Let Me," though, was this band's sales climax.
🇬🇧 just commented five minutes ago that although I have never heard this song before, I was 99.9% certain that it would fall under the "Northern Soul" genre! And you've just confirmed it. I absolutely adore NS, & I just don't understand why I've not heard it before , it's just fabulous.
Over&over&over…we practiced this song in Wayne’s upstairs bedroom. He played drums decent enough. David was on guitar. And me, on tambourine, all us pretending we’d be rock stars. We were 14 that year. Only dance we played was the middle school sock-hop. Another fast paced, jazzy number comes from the MONKEES with Mickey Dolenz pleading for his soul in GOIN’ DOWN.
Oh wow!! I never knew The Outsiders were from my neighborhood. I've always loved this high-energy song. Loved your reactions and dancing. 😄*Another group from Cleveland, "The Euclid Beach Band", "There's No Surf in Cleveland, (USA)". Just a fun beach song. 🌊

a good song that has everything and doesnt screw around.
Another example of how great music was in that era..😎🍺☮️
Thank you for continuing to feature the playlist of my life. I was 14 in 1964 when music started changing.
I grew up with the greatest music of modern times.
Love, you guys
Peace. ✌️
One of the members lives right down the street from us in Seven Hills. Many great bands from the 60’s
My best friend, Marcel was devastated when his four foot tall "Leslie" was stolen in 1979! The thing weighed about 200 lbs 😢
One of my all time favorite songs EVER! I took art class in high school and one of the projects was to design an album cover. I did one for The Outsiders "Time Won't Let Me."
Another 60’s group I think y’all will love is Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels singing C. C. Ryder/Jenny Jenny.
The Standells were great! Dirty Water and Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White were two of my faves.
The Leaves “Hey Joe.”
Also try the Beau Brummels, “Laugh Laugh” and “Just a little”
I still have the album from my teen years!
I’m so glad you played this band, I love The Outsiders…woot woot!👍👏👏👏💙💖
This is a single that connoisseurs of 60s hit singles always have in their "best of" lists. It embodies the magic of the pop/rock single - a sub 3 minute concentrate of energy, melody and rhythm with rise and falls and a hook line you can't forget. You're mining gold here guys! "Little Girl" by the Syndicate of Sound next - or perhaps "Mr Dieghingly Sad" by the Critters.
The spinning speaker, which modifies the Hammond Organ is called a "Leslie Speaker". Epic technology, hard to reproduce digitally (probably). 🤪
One of my favorites!❤
Great choice, perfectly captures the pop-oriented rock style of the '60s, excellent vocal by Sonny Geraci. The Outsiders were a one-hit wonder, but another upbeat '60s hit that rocks at the same clip is "Judy in Disguise (With Glasses)" by John Fred & His Playboy Band, a #1 hit in 1968. Creative instrumentation, interesting twists and turns -- I think you'll love it!
How can you call a group who charted 4 top 40 songs a 1 hit wonder??
60s is the best era in music..Outsiders are a good rabbit hole to dive in..soulful rock pop
The singer is the same guy that sang presious añd few the band was claimax
Didn’t know that, interesting 👍🏻
So many great 60’s one hit wonders!
Johnny Rivers is a must. Secret agent man, the poor side of town etc
Agree! Johnny Rivers' songs were all great!
One of the great 1960s "nuggets" of the Top 40, and a great one-hit wonder.
Have heard this song a million times since it came out, but got to see the band the first time just now. Thanks y'all. (Loved the guy with the 80's "Seagulls" hair....20 years early.)
Nice to see some 60s, too bad we don't see more. The Young Rascals "Good Lovin" would be a great next tune to hit.
the Outsiders recorded that song as well
Guys there is a band you have missed from ‘60s San Francisco named Quicksilver Messenger Service. Probably their most popular song is “Fresh Air”, but they have a really good catalog also. I’m actually pretty surprised they aren’t suggested more. They started in 1965 and lasted into the mid-70s I think. Maybe some of you older folks could verify their quality.
Nice! While not quite a “one-hit-wonder”, they were most known for this song. It’s a great one. And a great reaction.
Thank you... my dad worked his ass off with the Outsiders and before that was known for Tom King and The Starfires
Here's an L.A. band, Authur Lee and Love, and their song "Seven and Seven is" was released in 1966 which is considered Proto Punk, and it was played along with the Outsiders on 93 KHJ Boss AM Radio in Los Angeles. This was a Fun Year.
…and years later, K-EARTH 101 with Robert W Morgan!
@@Thejazzfan66 Yes, I remember Morgan was with both stations, but my favorite DJs was The real Don Steele and Charlie Tuna.
73 now...when I was a young man this was my very favorite jam!! nice to see a new generation enjoying it!! 3 songs I always requested, this one , Question Mark & The Mysterians - 96 Tears & Paul Revere & The Raiders - Kicks....still love them all !!
Playing lead guitar on this was Alan Austin, who tragically died in an auto accident in August 1968.
You would love "I Got A Line On You" by the band Spirit. 1969 banger!
Yes! And it has to be the original studio version.
Sooo good. Ear worm tho so beware 😅
Peace out.
I was 16 when this song came out and I still find myself singing it under my breath to this very day.
Great classic Rock song from the mid 60s. Love this music.
Old friend. RIP, Sonny.
Every bit still a
Banger !!! Thanks for the memories. Love y’all.
The organist on this song was a 16-year-old girl (Gayle Guhde) from the Cleveland area who was uncredited for this song.
This was awesome! Pride of Cleveland rock and roll. You guys should check out some more Raspberries and The Michael Stanley Band. MSB was legendary in Northeast Ohio. Sadly, Michael passed away a couple of years ago.
I am from Cleveland (home of rock ‘n’ roll!) and I grew up with this band! I can’t believe you found this, and this whole album is killer.
Another great Cleveland band from that period, the Choir, with "It's Cold Outside".
I’m sure you’ve listened to some of these, but here’s a list of 1960s American garage rock songs. Mostly American I know Van Morrison from Scotland.
1. "Louie Louie" by The Kingsmen
2. "Psychotic Reaction" by Count Five
3. "Gloria" by Them (featuring Van Morrison)
4. "Dirty Water" by The Standells
5. "Pushin' Too Hard" by The Seeds
6. "Psychotic Reaction" by Count Five
7. "96 Tears" by ? and the Mysterians
8. "Little Girl" by The Syndicate of Sound
9. "Nobody But Me" by The Human Beinz
10. "Talk Talk" by The Music Machine
These songs are emblematic of the American garage rock sound of the 1960s.
One of my favorite songs from that time.
Love the 60s and 70s music!!!
This was popular among northern soul fans in the U.K. and is now a sought after track
🇬🇧 just commented five minutes ago that although I have never heard this song before, I was 99.9% certain that it would fall under the "Northern Soul" genre! And you've just confirmed it. I absolutely adore NS, & I just don't understand why I've not heard it before , it's just fabulous.
The song Respectable was a nice hit by the Outsiders also. Same fast paced type of song. You will like it!
Yes! Love these 60's and 70's one hit wonders! How about "Time Has Come Today" by The Chambers Brothers
I had forgotten about this song. Thank you!
Oh wow!! I never knew The Outsiders were from my neighborhood. I've always loved this high-energy song. Loved your reactions and dancing. 😄*Another group from Cleveland, "The Euclid Beach Band", "There's No Surf in Cleveland, (USA)". Just a fun beach song. 🌊
Hi Vicki, I am from Cleveland too, the east suburbs. I LOVE that song by THE EUCLID BEACH BAND, "THERE"S NO SURF IN CLEVELAND (USA)" It IS a FUN song for sure!
Hi Patti, I'm out here in the west suburbs outside of Cleveland. I am so glad to hear you enjoy the fun song "There's No Surf In Cleveland, USA". I was a teenager when it came out and have loved it ever since. 😊It's kind of our little local anthem. 😄
Forgot about this blast from the past! Thanks!!
I was on a weekend leave from Camp Lejeune North Carolina which would be out of bounds. The bands on Loing Island were playing at this time. The bands, the Outsiders Loving Spoonful, and The Young Rascals. It would have been 1966. Of course, the girl would have been involved.
Semper Fi...was stationed there in the early 80s...headed out to NYC a few times myself when I shouldn't have either😅 we would go to "Swoop Circle" and pick up some other guys to help with gas and driving and hope we would be back in time for PT formation on Monday...Oooorah!!!
