    Eu: creates the athmosphere
US: Waits for the speakers to play a catchy hip song and do the wave around the terrace.

That's exactly what "instructive" meant, American's have to be instructed to be enthusiastic and energetic while Europeans bring the enthusiasm and energy with them TO the game.

Monsterous read first, then understand and after comment.i DIDNT SAY WHO had most of Greece under occupation i mentioned those who MASSACRED MOST civilians. If you are ignorant on the subject its not my fault.Bulgarian forces were occupying regions of macedonia and thrace...on the north part BUT MASSACRED MORE CIVILIANS THAN Italians or Nazis did.Get educated....you know for sure about...distomo....but i m sure you ignore massacres like Doxato which was burned and its people massacred not one but 3 times by occupating forces....

PANATHINAIKOS OUR TEAM I'm fan of Partizan, so from Greek teams i like Paok, but i have the most respect for AEK, they support anti nato campaign back in 99'. Don't misunderstand me, i have only good things to say for you Greek brothers. We Serbs are good at remembering history, and yes, we know that in early years, back in middle age we was rivals. But, we make our culture and tradition on ex Byzantine's culture. History, faith and same problems on this area is what connects us. Of course, see is one more thing that connect us (99% your tourists in Paralia are Serbs 😁). As you can see, i don't have some special point, i just want you to know that we really love you Greeks. See ya in Tsarigrad (Constantinople)!

As a Dutch vet I love the patriotism. We could use some more of that over here. Like my cousins who moved to Andover for 3 years do the allegiance to the flag now, although they'll move back. I also love the freedom of having the right to kneel. I think the comparison is should be without the national anthem. This isn't representative for the whole of European basketball. This is in Greece, Turkey, southern Europe. Fyi ask Nick van Exel what happened when he went to Greece with a college exhibition game hahaha

Last time (if I'm not mistaken) was 1985 in Belgium, Heysel Stadium. These stadiums are built to withstand earthquakes and this is why they don't collapse and it's not the weight, it's the rhythm of everyone jumping in sync.

Unlike major team sports in North America, where franchises are awarded to nominated cities, most European teams have grown from small clubs formed by groups of individuals before growing rapidly.

12:00 ... For ''god'' sake, NO this is not a Nazi salute...
It's a motion/movement, something like praising and devoting to the true god,
    Panathinaikos - Athens Greece...
The lyrics translated in English :
    ''It's a magic weed,
give me a little bit to taste, to
dream of my PAO and shout as far as God:
    My Panatha, I love you,
like heroin, like a hard drug,
    like hashish, lsd,
for you PAO the whole world is stoned, (or: PAO the whole world is high on you), the whole world.
    My Panatha, I love you,

Honestly, I am not even American and even I know that the people who a kneeling during the anthem aren't protesting the anthem, but are trying to draw attention to the fact that in the US you are in danger of getting shot just because you have the wrong skin colour. Otherwise, I think singing this stupid song at every opportunity is overkill. This should be reserved for when your national team is playing or for the Olympics. Singing fan songs is way more fun anyway.

At 2016 i came to the states and watch a game at Quickens Loan Arena (Cavs against Raptors), i remember that they have screens all around the court encouraging the fans to "MAKE SOME NOISE" (they was to quite like watching a movie!!! wtf)... Also the sounds like (DEFENSE) from the fans, the drum rhythm or even the slogans was from big speakers... I didn't like the atmosphere at all, the people was more like sheep than fans... In Greece we are very vert very very different at all.... We feel the game and noone encourage us to sing or make noise for our team, all the sounds are real and not from a huge speaker (lol)...We have a very very very...very different way in the part that we see sports, its not a movie like you guys think ...
** The 3 teams are GREEK (Aris, Olympiakos & Panathinaikos)
**They are not ultras man, they are just fans that dont expect a screen to make some noise ;)
QUESTION n1: Why the anthem in every game???
QUESTION n2: You don't feel like idiots when you hear drum rhythm from a speaker or even worse a slogan???
QUESTION n3: Why your "organized fans" were 50 person wearing some yellow children's t-shirts and the only thing that they did was to dance when they music was playing in the half-time...???

The chant you say on 12:00 on " Nazi salute " it isn't. They are talking about the love they have about their club and they liken it with LSD Marijuanna. They shake their hand and looks like a wave on better camera. (The video is on 2011 so the video quality is a bit poor). Before this chant. (I am Greek and Panathinaikos fan and I was part of this chant on January this Year).

is a historiographical term for the empire in the Balkan peninsula that emerged from the medieval Serbian Kingdom. It was established in 1346 by King Stefan Dušan, known as "the Mighty", who significantly expanded the state. Under Dušan's rule Serbia was the major power in the Balkans, and a multi-lingual empire that stretched from the Danube to the Gulf of Corynth, with its capital in Skopje.[1] He also promoted the Serbian Archbishopric to the Serbian Patriarchate. His son and successor, Uroš the Weak, lost most of the territory conquered by Dušan, hence his epithet. The Serbian Empire effectively ended with the death of Uroš V in 1371 and the break-up of the Serbian state. Some successors of Stefan V claimed the title of Emperor in parts of Serbia until 1402, but the territory in Greece was never recovered.

Look, ultras are not just people with flares, everybody who sings is a part of ultras of that club, just some of us bring flares. In out country laws are more strict, but we have balls,no offense taken, you bring a bandana, short down the flare as much as possible and you put it as your dick,or if you really have balls, you make a belt from flares, and you bring in 20 flares,to make a party. And our colours and teams (whatever sport they play under our colours and name) are culture,it is something that shows where are you from, sometimes even from what kind of family do you come from,it is about respect, showing dominance, and putting your country first, than colours, team, and city on a spotlight, and shoe everybody that you are the best.

Europeans and South American are hot blooded bro. In basketball in Europe like Panathinaikos vs Barcelona you saw these are historically top teams. Many NBA players come from those teams and many star ones like Byron Scott, Antonio Davis and Dominic Wilkins have played for Panathinaikos.

For nay Euros, as an American after learning more about Europe and visiting I wish our sports culture cane similar to yours. This isn't just paying entitled asshole celebs to sing the national anthem every game, but we literally reward our professional teams for sucking with draft picks to get talent. I respect the culture in European sports which us Americans don't have. I don't mind having draft picks nd being rewarded for losing but I wish there was more reward and more passion for teams. The sad thing is there are more bandwagons than faithful loyal fans in this ccountry in all sports. I'm a Nets fan, and they had to move from NJ, but even back there none of the people from my hometown to state in New Jersey ever supported them except me and my friend in middle school. It's shame America focuses on cunt entitled star and money in sports. Sports is more than just a sport to many which America doesn't focus on. They think sports is just a game. Most Americans here will never be rich or whatever and they have the audacity to say sports is just entertainment. Sports is an escape from our lives and fans like in Europe who will show faith to their culture is admirable.

The main difference is Americans need to be entertained. While on the European side, the fans provide the entertainment. They are singing for their teams. Imagine how the home team must feel with that kind of support and how low morale the away team must have. Flares are illegal in most countries in Europe but they still bring them in. Some people might to jail for their teams. The real crazy one are those that are ready to kill their opponents. We don't sing the national anthem unless it's the world cup and international games are played

It was a time where you could go to a stadium with wife an kids, now, the passion is so strong that you're better to go alone to experiment the ambiance without fearing for your familly, but two things: 1) there is absolutly no nazzi signes, 2) afther the last colaps, the stadiums are now espacialy contruct to resist the more savage behavior, when they jumps on the balcony, it move with it, it's verry inpressive 😉

American fans have to be told when to sing, what to sing and are more concerned about eating burgers and what Kim Kardashian is Upto. European fans ARE the music and passion. There is no passion in American sports at all. It’s all contrived and fake with occasional booting and hollering. In Europe it’s a different story. It’s real passion

First and third team are Greek.
    Aris Thessaloniki and Panathinaikos Athens.
Those are nautical signal flares and they are pretty common in big games in Greece..of course smuggled. They are not allowed.
It's not a nazi salute..They raise both arms so as to hype for this specific song. Plus in other European countries they are not so passionate for basketball so as to go that far to support their teams.
Maybe in Balkans but that's it.
The OAKA stadium can support around 25.000 fans when it's completely full and Aris's arena around 12.000 but I'm not sure. All this comes with the cost of being not friendly for families to watch those games. It's very rare to see families in derbies when the atmosphere is like that. And last, these songs are mostly swears of fans to the opponent teams. Not the one they actually face but mainly their rivals. Growing up in Greece we all know the songs of our favourite team against the others that's why we are synchronised!
