You are so right, it's all about access. Great lawyers get involved in judges election campaigns, participate in golf fundraisers, and then have a familiarity with the judges, clerks and so on. That is what matters, and if some think it's dumb it just proves that they don't know and don't know they don't know.

“$5.6” is a deterrent, as opposed to a number like $50,000
And the state is not “finished”, because educated people, despite being vile, will get the message that such violations will cost substantially.
In addition there are a plethora of educated qualified people who will be willing to do this job safely respectfully and efficaciously.

What BS - to get a search warrant they needed to show probable cause to a judge she was carrying contraband. There is more to this story. They don't get a search warrant for every visitor.
They easily get them for visitors suspected of carrying in drugs for their spouses. Happens every weekend, that prison is SNY meaning it’s full of snitches and bitches, those snitches will tell to get out of paying drug debts and that’s all you may need to get a search warrant 😂

If you have a successful lawsuit for someone carrying out a warrant, how is the judge who signed it not liable as well?
They had a search warrant, so at least some of this was approved by a judge. Was the warrant obtained with lies from the officers? What was the probable cause that they used for the warrant.
As usual there are a lot of things we aren't being told. I imagine it was a jury that gave this finding, and I wonder if there will be an appeal.
Settlement usually means there wasnt a trial.

At least the two correctional officers and the doctor were obligated to pay. Honestly, 2 million from their pockets should’ve been enough considering what goes on in prisons. Smuggling in contraband is a regular occurrence and if they she was presented with a search warrant she may have been a suspect. Her husband is in prison after all..

Not enough info here for me to form an intelligent opinion but if it was substantial the guards and Doc would have been charged criminally before or after her civil suit and it never said that happened. Coming from a law background there are alot of missing puzzle pieces

From the search warrant that must have been a 'Jane Doe' warrant to the idea that the two jailers and the doctor - not sure if a female doctor is required to do an invasive search on a female visitor - having to pay out of pocket for actions that could be argued are within the scope of their work.
There is so much information that is missing and so many different ways of dissecting this story.

I wasn't paranoid after all by not going to visit family members who were locked up. I was always afraid something bad would happen if I visited.
