I own one of these. It has an intake, exhaust, coilovers and a throttle controller and I can confirm with these extra bits it is an incredible car - the sound is transformed, you can hear the supercharger from a mile away and it handles 100x better than you would expect for a heavy luxury sedan. 190,000kms and nothing has gone wrong. Best car i've ever owned

The lag in manual shifts...Move the gear lever....light up a cigarette...and bam there's your shift! :) But all jokes aside it's a rare, unique, luxurious and reliable car. Nice job finding one and bringing it up to the channel.

This particular generation of Crown Athlete after this video becomes my top 3 JDM dream car, joining Chaser, Aristo and Soarer, it's even better because of not so advanced age. Damn, cars from 2009 are already becoming youngtimers!
BTW, Imagine my face and reaction when I've driven for the first time with my wife through a road to our house we've just bought in a new city and realised that so close to new home is a workshop that specialises in importing and JDM maintenance, having on a display a few JDM sedans from early 2000's. In goddamn Poland, where JDM's are even more exotic than in OZ! Now I'll see JDM sedans everyday while going for groceries. Like could be great!

Interesting review of the Crown Athlete, Ross. They sure have been around for a long time. The first one I’ve seen with a supercharger and RWD. The supercharger sounded good but can hardly hear the exhaust. If the exhaust got a bit of work done to it then it would be a nice cruising car but not an off the line car for the price of this car. Thanks for the review.

As you know i have my Holdens WM & VF over here in the states. But i also have other cars. One of them is a 2014 IS250 which has the 4GR FSE which is the 2.5 V6 and it has a RR-Racing supercharger kit on it. Went from 200 crank hp to now over 400+ crank hp.
So much fun! Luxury and toyota reliability with boost. Amazing fun and its decently quick. Yes the $25k i spent on the kit installed i could have built some other fast cars. But there is something about just building what you have and makinf it your own. For years i was the only 3rd gen IS with that supercharger kit.
Now there is a hand full in the world.
But if i want fast i can jump into my built and turbo VF with close to 1500hp and a LSA supercharged WM caprice that pushes 800hp.
So I have quick cars. But that boosted lexus its something else.

I hoped your supercharged IS250 was manual but they stopped making them in 2013. You ever thought of manual swapping it now that you put that much into it? Wouldn't be much more. You can get a RA62 for $1600USD... manual swap parts for $400-$2500? Could be done for under $5k?

They’re excellent cars luxury the PM’s of Japan are driven in this model Crown model Toyota .. it’s like the Holden statesman that our PM used to be chauffeured driven in … being a car the PM is chauffeured driven in both have special modifications for safety and speed handling … they’re beautifully Japanese made attention to detail and specs …it’s a more a grand tourer line the Cadillacs in America … they can be tuned with the ECU remapped to get better performance … they’re more for chauffeured /family use of car so performance is okay but not spectacular bottom end … a European equivalent would cost 150k plus just for a base model of same quality …

Seems like it is hesitating, probably due to age & lack of maintenance - probably still running on original sparkplugs, MAF sensor has likely never been cleaned - could be someone put 91 octane fuel in it and so on - transmission could be part of the problem, but often if it's an ignition or fuel/mix issue, the ECU will pull a load of timing at low RPM/high load, and it can feel a lot like the transmission is not responding. I suspect with a thorough service it'd behave itself a lot better.

Interesting 0 to 100 results. This japanese channel tests the non-supercharged variant and gets 5.1 seconds. Though he is measuring from when the speedo starts moving. Assuming its even a 200ms delay, that still puts it at 5.3 seconds which is still way faster than the 6.1 seconds you clocked... I have heard anecdotes from others that the supercharged GRS204 should be hitting high 4s and low 5s consistently.

@@willm687 I know this is an old comment, but in the 90's our government started a scheme to allow Aussies to import JDM vehicles due to the value for money aspect - a very rare Australian government w. We have no minimum age laws, and we can essentially import anything we want. They just need to pass a few compliance tests upon registering for public road use. Very, very easy to get JDM cars in Aus.

That's not strictly true. These cars are practically identical underneath to the Lexus IS350s. Not to mention the amount of Toyota's and Lexus models that have a 2GR in them means that there's actually a fair amount of parts around for them.
Also most of the import places are able to work on the cars that they import as they are usually the most knowledgeable about them and can get the parts shipped over easily enough. At least my local import yard is like that 😅
