  • The Makgadikgadi salt pans, which also include the Nxai Pans, are considered to be the largest in the world.
    They usually appear as bright, white, infinite plains.
    However, during the rainy season, they become one of the most significant wetland areas in Botswana, transforming into stunning grassy plains and coming to life.
    The Nata Bird Sanctuary is a protected area of 230 square kilometres located on the northeastern edge of the Sowa Pan, 20 kilometres south of the town of Nata. The sanctuary was established in 1992 with the aim of conserving wildlife, specifically bird species. It is noteworthy for being one of only three breeding sites for flamingos in Africa.
