I'm really enjoying your content. I sent you an email regarding the MUSICAL THEATRE WRITING COLLECTIVE: My question: Will this Collective be helpful even if I haven't taken the writing course?

But the answer is also YES, absolutely! The course is a deeper dive for those who want an intensive course experience, and the Collective is a community with a lot of built-in resources

What do I do if I want to adapt something that is a bit too short? Think about it like cats. They adapted some poems and created the story, I wanted to do that as well, as the original media I want to adapt is like the Cat's origin. Help????

Good question! This would probably require a larger conversation for me to be able to really help out, but here's what I can offer quickly: It's all about intention. What are the main reasons you are taking this short source material and adapting it into a musical? What is it about the story that captures you? What message do you want to convey? Why does this need to be a musical versus another medium? What is your goal with the piece? If you have a clear understanding around all of this (which is what this Friday's video will be all about) then you can pretty easily find some routes to expand the source material into a larger story! Does that at least begin to help at all?

@@musicaltheatrewriterguy Yeah, it helps a lot, thanks, I will keep track of your videos to understand it more:) The thing about this is, I wanted to adapt an old national play, that has already some centuries old. I really admire this piece, as it is supposed to be a satire, to criticize what society was back then. It's really interesting but the original just has what I could call "I am" moments, that I could adapt to "I am" songs, like Cats. This is why I have my doubts and don't know how I can really work with his, to expand it. It would be a nice revival, though.
