I am glad I ran across your site, am bing watching to get up to date with y’all. Oh I am from outside New Orleans, La. and yes Southern Born and Breed. Although I sided with the North in the Cilvil War. Just wanted to get that out! But everything else about me is VERY SOUTHERN! That out of the way, I like that y’all don’t come off as, “We are experts” and this is a “How to Do it” video! 😅😂🤣🤣🥲😎. But you have stated that y’all are new to boating and this is a very new adventure/project! And I applaud y’all for not being scared to take on a project of this magnitude. But at the same time you are not completely ignorant of certain skills that one would have to be a big step forward and not having to redo things over and over because of having NOT a CLUE of what y’all are doing. Oh there is a very simple and faster way to tying your boat off. Find a site that teaches you how to tie MARINE knots, will be a big help for y’all! And I like how y’all have taken to your local wildlife. Also don’t know if you have though about it. Mainly because I haven’t seen all of your videos! But a solar system and or a generator, or a gas or diesel generator. I would have both because to more redundant/ back up systems you have the more you will avoid the nightmares and aggravation that you WILL have to deal with when a system goes down. The same with water system, heating and cooling. And yes you will need a air conditioner of some type. And battery charging system……Oh FIRST AID ⛑ Your wife being the medical field should be able to put a logical one without buying one someone else put together put things not needed and put things in not needed. And mostly “OVER PRICED”
Hi Danni & Joe just started watching your narrowboat vlogs & thoroughly enjoying them. I don't normally comment on vlogs but thought I'd mention a couple of things. We have a fixed, 4ft bed on our narrowboat which was ok but a bit snug. Hubby attached 4 folding brackets along the side & then attached an 8 inch wide piece of wood, it's actually a windowsill. We then had made a 4ft srung mattress with a zipped on 8 inch extension. During the day the extension is lowered & the mattress extension folds over to on top of the mattress that then the whole mattress slides back against the wall with the extension going up under the gunnell. We actually tried it out for the first time on Tuesday & it was really comfy & the extra 8 inches made a huge difference. As you'll be making your bed from scratch it might be worth you taking a look at 'Winging it! Boating on a budget' vlog as they did an extendable bed using the slat method, popular on hire boats. On one of 'England by Narrowboat' vlogs he did a short section on knots to use which I found really helpful.
So glad to see a wonderful new couple starting out with Narrowboat videos. Joe, you are one lucky guy... To be young, and have a beautiful woman such as Danni, to share your adventures with. I'm looking forward to your videos as you progress into narrowboating.
Hi guys. Enjoyed your vlog. Ive got a double pocket sprung mattress on my boat. I got mine through the doors at the front bow of the boat ok. The best way to tie you boat up is what they call spring mooring it. Where you tie up to the pin and then run your rope back to the middle of your boat to a 2nd pin. Its good for when boats go past you to fast and pull out your pins and stops your boat rocking and banging to much when a boat goes past. Theres videos on you tube to see how its done. Hope that helps. I wouldnt advise tying up using your centre line incase of any floods it can pull your boat sideways 😊
I have a small double that allows easy passage while not having to slide a bed in and out to make it and the Boatman's back cabin has a 36 inch width drop down bed for the hardcore boater! Lol 😆
@@ItsOhJoe sadly not a historic boat but she has been made to be as close as I can mimic with a noisy old vintage engine and lots of mock rivets welded on as well as recessed panels to the stern cabin sides steelwork done by a very old fashioned boat builder to get the right lines she confuses a fair few people at first glance! and I had to have a traditional back cabin to go with the vintage engine in its engine room! This time last year I was about to launch an empty shell I'm about 80 ish percent done inside and all the outside to paint now! Not put any pictures on for a bit but if you look on Facebook you should find me and see what I've been upto! 😊
Loving your funky ropes. We have a 4 foot wide bed which extends to 5 foot wide. The mattress is o 2 parts, one 4 foot and one 1 foot which zip together to make one mattress which folds. This gives a nice wide bed when extended, but allows easy access at other times. My son lives on a boat at Devizes and has an extending bed from Ikea.
love your vlogs, canypu enlighten us more excelent stsff guys, can you tell us more about thr licence and thelicence and therules for permanent crusing, esspescially if you cant move the boat due to seasonal closures, asn so on. kindest regards MickT😊
interesting on the veins up in the hand. My GP told me ( many many years ago ) that was an indication of high blood pressure. I have never heard that it could mean being dehydrated. Loving the vlogs.
Your temporary kitchen looks great. I have been watching narrow boat vlogs for a little over a year and it's the first time I've seen those mooring pins you screw in. Are you still happy with them. Danni will need some arnica cream for that bruise. And a aloe vera plant is nice to have around the home for burns. The board looks great, just wondering if Danni put sand in the paint to reduce slipping? Wishing you a happy, safe week
Thank you! We stumbled upon them on eBay & so far so good, especially on grassy banks. We’ve got tonnes of plants at home but no Aloe I think we’ll add one to the collection!
So glad you changed your mind on the fresh water tank. Love what you did with the bow drain tank! Your floor looks fantastic! Did Danni cut your hair or did you go to a professional? Danni's decorated board looks terrific, remember when it's cold and frosty, you need to flip your board before standing on it, the under side is not frosty and slippery.
Thanks Gregg! My mum (Joe) is a hairdresser so let go of the long haired dream! Great idea on flipping the board never thought of that. Yes definitely worth biting the bullet on the water tank, leaking flexible tanks is a worry we really don't need when on the cut.
Such a lovely vlog to watch, always entertaining, lots fun and more knowledge than a years full of reading! I am so looking forward to buying my boat, hopefully later this year. If you guys have finished yours, maybe you might like to renovate mine for me? Looking at either Somerset (if I can find a mooring) or Cotswolds. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! xo
@@ItsOhJoe You will be experts by the time you have finished! Just gutted for James (narrowboat James) today. Something that has always been at the back of my mind. Hope he can fix it soon. Enjoy your bank holiday! x
Another great Vlog Danni, Joe. Boat is coming on well. Love the huge mattress, what a squeeze to get it on board. Love Danni's hippy painted plank. Really watchable and entertaining Vlog. Thanks Guys. Take care.
Centre Line: It should not really be used for mooring the boat (bow & stern lines only) because it is tied high on the boat and if the water levels change (eg locks left open) it can tilt the boat enough to take on water. Also the roof rail isn't ideal for fastening the centre line (not very strong) so next time you have some welding done, get a fitting welded to your roof? The centre line is most useful for going through locks, especially single-handed.
There are hundreds of narrow boat you tubers. I think it would be best if you watch some of these to learn what to do. I'm sure it's not all that difficult to learn what to do, but I think for your health and care you might get some good tips. Some of the questions you're asking are rather basic, so it would help to watch some of the more experienced youtubers.
Hi there, I'm a new watcher, love you guys and no swearing as yet, jumping in at the deep end. Steve (Salisbury)

Ah wow thank you so much! Yes we're fitting a big solar system & have a small generator to bring with us but hoping to mainly be powered by solar!

Oh wow thank you Rex! We’re learning as we go but trying to enjoy the experience as much as possible!
My wife and I walked past your boat today, looking good guys! 😀👍
Aw thanks so much!!
Thanks for posting. Arnica is good for bruises. Hope your leg is feeling better now.
Thank you, I (Danni) did take some Arnica
The Narrowboat that James built recommended following you and he was right. You two are a great watch ❤️❤️
Thank you so much! James has been really handy to watch for us
Pls help me
You must be pulling our leg with those tie knots on the bollard. Like the bed part of the video. That is a huge project you tow are undertaking.
Lots of learning all the time, really looking forward to having it done!
Half hitch on the cleat!
Thank you!
30:30 : Get well soon, Danni!🤗
Thank you!
Ouch! Huge bruise, hope you are ok now. So many things you need to learn, you'll get there 👍
Thank you!
Great vlog. So talented. Id have no idea where to start. Good taste in coffee btw ! Love your adventure.
Thanks so much!!

We’ll have a look into spring mooring, sound ideal for then large amount of traffic on the Kennet & Avon at the moment! Thank you!

I’m pretty sure we’re going to go with a small double! Oh wow is yours a historic boat?

Very entertaining vlog guys. Good looking hair cut Joe and Danni's work gear is, what can I say, colourful. 🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha thanks!
Glad you opted to screw down the boards, better option than nailing.
Looking super good!
Thank you! Yes definitely a better fix
Great video guys, thought the longer version was more interesting, thanks for sharing again.
Thank you!

Will check that out thank you!
The best way to tie on to a cleat is to use a figure of eight back an forth
Will have a look, thank you

Your hair cut looks good
Thank you!
Wow so cool vlog guy. The vibes is real🔥🔥👍🏻

Bloopers are great. Send them to you've been framed. Sorry to see the bruise.
Knowing us two there will be plenty more bloopers to come!

Watch Gary Rhodes make focaccia with a chef in Genoa, couple of tips that may surprise you. Totally yummy 😋
Ooo we will check it out, cheers!

Loving the videos so far, invest in a pair of nee pads Joe, for a few pounds you'll improve your nee Life immensely.
Thank Keith! We’ve got a couple of pairs but need to be more disciplined in wearing them for sure, they do help massively!

Thank you!
Just a quick comment - any chance of increasing your volume at your end ie Louder
Yes we will try, thanks for the suggestion!
