Here's a great idea I tried this year with my pre-k class after parents were complaining about kids using hurtful words. I took a cutout of a person, it was just the outline no face or anything. I passed it around and each child had to give it an insult, for example you are ugly, while ripping off a piece of the person. then we went around and each person have to give a compliment, like you are pretty, and I tapped their piece back on the the person. This showed that no matter how hard you try to fix a person they are still broken from the mean things you say to them. It really made an impact on the kids. I copied the person and sent it home so the parents could discuss the activity with their children.
Your classroom is so cute! Luv your colors & owls!!! I'm a fist year kindergarten teacher & in the process of getting my room put together. It feels overwhelming, but you've given me some great ideas. Now I just need the $....lol!
I love Love LOVE your classroom! It reminds me of my old prekindergarten room! For your blue baskets you can get plywood and hot glue it to the insides .
I feel like all teachers have a small bit of of hoarding habits ... this comes with the job...I've been teaching for 15 years and I'm always like hey I may need these for something I love your room .. I'm always looking for new ideas
We don't have a library facility for kindergarten. I'm thinking of starting one. Would you please suggest some books for 4 - 6 year old children? I love the social contract & the visusl schedule. I might do the same. Thank you. ❤
myfavejewels _ We really only have one rule-they cannot rock all the way back or be unsafe. If they do, I give them ONE warning. If they continue, they have to put it away. Some kids will push the limits the first few times they sit in one, but the thrill wears off pretty quickly and it just becomes another seat.
Hi Elizabeth! Last year, we mostly used the scoop rockers during Reading Workshop, when kids spread out, get comfy and read to themselves. Next year, I am moving towards all flexible seating, so we will use them whenever kids want!
I didn't understand which is the place you went that help you to do your social contract? Can you give me more information? I'm really interested!! :) Thank you!
Hi Jessica. I went to a Capturing Kids Hearts training. My district provided the training, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to afford it. I think it's expensive! If you google it, you can get more info. It's done by the Flippen Group.
question i see you she stuff on your blackboard? how do you mount it? is your board magnetic if not what do you use! I have a huge chalkboard that I want to make 3 boards out of help!
Great video! You look like a very committed and hard working teacher, thanks for your ideas

How do you teach them how to use the scoop rockers and what do you do if they don't use them appropriately?

You really should not be showing your students pictures at the beginning of the video. Beyond ridiculous for a Teacher to be so ignorant.
