Dear Jared, in an attempt to hopefully save you some headache, I wanna give you a list of locations you can still check in the Wrecked Ship for next episode To the right of the room where you found the Red Shield, you can bomb open a tunnel to another location On the left side of the vertical shaft, there's also another bombable tunnel On the left side of the outside area with the floating beetle thingies, there's a tile you can blow up with Super Missles, that leads to the item you had no idea how to get to To the right from that, a simple beam shot opens a whole to a tunnel that leads to the Chozo statue you thought of And once that statue is done carrying you, you can immediately bomb open a tunnel that leads to another item I hope this helps in case you or Miss Editor see it😊
Jared please see this post. Also in LttP where you bomb the cave near the lake, where you fought the spikey worms to open the door to the treasure chests, talk to the thief in there, he gives you an item. In my playthrough it was the speed booster, so i know it could be something useful.

Unfortunately, this does Jared no good as this current version of the combo rando is still running the v29 ALttPR logic, which predates hint tiles. He's even proven this in earlier episodes by talking to the tile in Eastern Palace, the tile in Thieves' Town, and the one in the Dark World shopping mall.
I'm happy he at least got a "chaotic but fun" seed, not the kind where I'm forced to kill Phantoon with 3 tanks or spend 3 hours doing an almost impossible wall jump to get to that "acid area" near the ship just to find out you'll probably not be able to do it without save states because you have no suit and 5 tanks won't do it
You missed several items in the wrecked ship: You need to shoot the floor outside to reach Bowling Alley and the three items therein (vanilla gravity suit, another item, and the 20 rupees). You also need to shoot the floor outside, this time with a Super Missile, to get the item on the left. In addition, I think you missed at least one item (if not two) behind a bombable wall inside the wrecked ship itself.
There's two inside the ship he missed. In between the top/mid section there's an secret wall on the left. And IIRC the middle section section before you hit the area with Phantom has another secret area to the left.

EDIT: 10:44 Mail upgrades, shield upgrades, and sword upgrades are progressive. Regarding the space jump you might have better success Holding the jump button as long as possible then let go. Re-press once you see Samus starting to come back downwards AFTER the apex of the jump.
Phantoon actually reacts differently depending on which weapon you use. The super missile produces the phase you saw there. Charged beam shots might have been faster.
Exactly. Never use Supers on Phantoon or else he goes into an invincible rage. Instead, opt for normal missiles when he moving about, charging towards him as you fire in a strategy commonly called "dopplering," and (if you have it) use charge beam when he is holding still spewing fireballs.
I actually didn't know that. Always used super missiles out of laziness and it resulted in Phantoon being my second most hated boss out of Super Metroid.

@@skepticaltile Phantoon will only do the attack where it is invincible sending waves of fire when it is hit with a super missile. Almost any other attack, Phantoon will stay vulnerable throughout the fight.
Something I only learned recently: you can make the fight against Phantoon a LOT easier by not using super missiles! That fire sweep move is a counterattack that only occurs if you use super missiles. If you stick to regular missiles, he never does that and the fight goes smoother.
Adding "1 arrow" as a possible drop in the item pool is such a good troll. Much better than the fake outs that damage you when you try to pick them up in some other randomizer (not that those can't be hilarious if properly used).
As someone who used to do speed runs of Super Meteoid, this is painful. However, it is also very fun at the same time. I'm routing for ya Jared. You can do it!
Going with the Super Missile route for Phantoon, a good way to dodge their barrage of shots is if you charge and roll jump (not sure if normal jumps work, always did rolling jumps) and you'll be invincible enough to get by their shots and is more of a matter of waiting until Phantoon dies
The thing with Space Jump that I don't think is ever really explained is that you shouldn't spam the button to gain height. There is a rhythm to the presses that will make things a lot easier. Just only push jump right as Samus starts to fall in the air during your climb and sorta pivot her right to left to keep Space Jump going.

To be honest, that's about as scary as earlier versions of the logic where they had a seed that put the Morph Ball once in Ganon's Tower. After that seed, they made explicit patches to ensure items absolutely needed to beat Super Metroid for that seed could never appear in Ganon's Tower, meaning if you *DID* somehow find Speed Booster or Spring Ball in Ganon's Tower now, the logic is telling you it's saying those items are not necessary to beat the game.
In addition to moving I presume there's something else about the spikes as well to enable them to damage Samus through her Power Suit (maybe some sort of electrical charge).
On Phantoom: "How are you supposed to not get hit?" I must be the only person who figured out that holding a charged shot while jumping makes you phase through those flames.. Literally every playthrough I have ever watched just eats them to the face, even the guides recommend not using Super Missiles because it 'makes him harder.'
Man, Samus may be missing some key abilities but as for upgrades she is STACKED for how early in the game he is. Soooo much health to tank with and loaded up with missiles and super missiles.
I tried playing Super Metroid on an emulator. What I learned was playing Super Metroid with a keyboard is not easy. Especially when using a normal keyboard that only allows 2-3 button presses at the same time instead of a gaming keyboard.
That's basically impossible. Evaluate your button layout to avoid keys that share a same vertical/horizontal axis. If you have a numeric keypad, utilize that shit. 123/456 (keypad) = YBA/LXR will do you a world of good, even with WASD/ESDF.
The one thing that's been driving me nuts about this series is Jared's fixation on beating Zelda dungeons, rather than poking around looking for accessible chests. I legit started screaming when he kept ignoring the castle because there were no bosses.

I saw this coming. Metroid is like 20 useful items and 100 overkill. Mixing those up with Zelda's chests just means the chances of getting what he needs is that much (so much) smaller. Still fun to watch though.
This would have so much work put into it that it would probably be like making an entire new game, if you just take the fact that one game is 2d and the other has 3dish top down camera it would already be a huge impediment, let alone all the programing, sprites etc. So as cool as it may sound, i think its never going to happen.
For those who don't know: If you're fighting Phantoom and he does the fire attack(at 7:58) you can charge a charge beam shot to activate a pseudo screw attack and just jump through the fire.

Jared, you should head back to Brinstar and go do the rooms where the Etecoons (Wall jump) and Dachora (Shinespark / Speed Booster). I’m pretty sure you can get something out of them. I can remember getting something from them after beating Super Metroid twice
Seeing this makes me wonder what other Zelda/Metroid combos could be done. Like Link's Awakening and Metroid 2? Or maybe Minish Cap and Metroid Fusion (or Zero Mission)? I know I'd like to see a Skyward Sword/Other M combo randomizer!

Phantoon changes it's attack pattern based on what you damage it with, including different beam combinations, something I learned from watching speedruns lol.
This is a weird series for me to watch because I like Zelda but I'm really bored with Metroid, so part of the randomization for me is how invested I'll be in each episode based on the ratio of the two.

Jared's Questions Answered Service! The one and only real question Jared had here was about how to navigate the Wrecked Ship area. (Well, there was the Space Jump question, but I answered that last time, and I'm certain Jared played this video before being able to read that one anyway, if he ever had a chance. As Thunder and others have noted, the secret to navigating that portion of the ship, outside above once you leave the top of the Wrecked Ship, is to Super Missile a block in the middle of the small flat ground on the far left side. This will give you access to the tunnels below, allowing you to get the item to the left and then make your way through the little tunnel maze to the right. Keep going right and you will enter the Wrecked Ship, which will eventually lead you to the Chozo Statue you're thinking of (the 'Bowling Chozo) who takes you to the place you find the Vanilla Gravity Suit. There are still a few extra secrets in that area, too, but I'm just answering basic questions, and others are giving more details of all the item locations.
I always thought it weird that the lack of power in the wrecked ship causes the save point to not work, because as a kid that implied to me that Samus saving was canon, and I couldn't grasp how that worked.

Oh jared, if Im right in thinking this, you dont need the mirror to go back to the light world in zelda as the different doors in metroid take you to corresponding places. Youve been through the door that takes you to that one building in the light world and the one door that takes you to that death mountain cave
Fun fact for anyone whose never played these games the boss Phantoon, or something like that is his name. Well he only goes into that berserk state if you use super missiles on him like Jared did. If you use regular missiles you have a slower, but safer time. Another fun, but spoilery fact below for both other M, and this game for anyone who wants. Also anyone who wants spoilers yeah unlike what Jared says that boss died. All the things in Other M are clones of things from Zebes (given that the planet exploded) from things like stuff extracted from Samus' suit so she's covered in blood, and gore. Why did the federation clone those things? No idea never actually played Other M as I do not own the system it's for.
okay this has been bugging me for a few metroid parts of this series so far jared you do know you can blast open those red doors that take 5 regular missiles with one super missile right
@@mattheus6416 Agreed. Using a super missile may be faster, but I feel like one super missile is more valuable than five regular missiles. Especially when considering the difference in not only maximum ammunition, but also the difference in how much easier one is to restock than the other.

Funny thing with phantoon its takes longer to kill him with super missiles than regular ones. because super missiles puts him in the invincible angry phase.

You have to have positive vertical velocity (IE: be falling) but also before you reach max fall speed. Most people drop it trying to jump at neutral.

The problem is that it has such a specific window when you can actually activate it, which the player is left to figure out on their own.

The spikes don't work when the power is off, so you can step on them without taking damage.

In his Resident Evil 2 playthrough, his saves were timestamped so you could see he was uploading videos like a month after he recorded them.
I saw this coming. Metroid is like 20 useful items and 100 overkill. Mixing those up with Zelda's chests just means the chances of getting what he needs is that much (so much) smaller. Still fun to watch though.

I wonder if there's a way to mess with the games so that they could code a Zelda boss for Samus to fight and a Metroid boss for Lank to fight.
This would have so much work put into it that it would probably be like making an entire new game, if you just take the fact that one game is 2d and the other has 3dish top down camera it would already be a huge impediment, let alone all the programing, sprites etc. So as cool as it may sound, i think its never going to happen.

For those who don't know: If you're fighting Phantoom and he does the fire attack(at 7:58) you can charge a charge beam shot to activate a pseudo screw attack and just jump through the fire.
I think I'm going to post and edit this list each upload to try and keep track of item locations that are missed.
Locations will be of areas that Jared has been to but skipped for one reason or another. So I won't list locations he hasn't been to somewhat limit spoilers.

Jared, you should head back to Brinstar and go do the rooms where the Etecoons (Wall jump) and Dachora (Shinespark / Speed Booster). I’m pretty sure you can get something out of them. I can remember getting something from them after beating Super Metroid twice
Seeing this makes me wonder what other Zelda/Metroid combos could be done. Like Link's Awakening and Metroid 2? Or maybe Minish Cap and Metroid Fusion (or Zero Mission)?

Phantoon changes it's attack pattern based on what you damage it with, including different beam combinations, something I learned from watching speedruns lol.

Out of 316 items, 40 are regular missile packs, which means is pretty much 1/8th of the time you get missiles.
That boss's entrance reminds me of Magus summoning Lavos in Chrono Trigger.
The green saucer thing: Is it machine or insect? It knows not, so it shoots a jet out its butt.
I love it how Jared tries not to cuss but always ends up cussing anyway.

This is a weird series for me to watch because I like Zelda but I'm really bored with Metroid, so part of the randomization for me is how invested I'll be in each episode based on the ratio of the two.
Part of that is that he's so well equipped for Super Metroid but ill equipped in many ways for Zelda.

The one and only real question Jared had here was about how to navigate the Wrecked Ship area. (Well, there was the Space Jump question, but I answered that last time, and I'm certain Jared played this video before being able to read that one anyway, if he ever had a chance.
As Thunder and others have noted, the secret to navigating that portion of the ship, outside above once you leave the top of the Wrecked Ship, is to Super Missile a block in the middle of the small flat ground on the far left side. This will give you access to the tunnels below, allowing you to get the item to the left and then make your way through the little tunnel maze to the right. Keep going right and you will enter the Wrecked Ship, which will eventually lead you to the Chozo Statue you're thinking of (the 'Bowling Chozo) who takes you to the place you find the Vanilla Gravity Suit. There are still a few extra secrets in that area, too, but I'm just answering basic questions, and others are giving more details of all the item locations.
I always thought it weird that the lack of power in the wrecked ship causes the save point to not work, because as a kid that implied to me that Samus saving was canon, and I couldn't grasp how that worked.
Every time you reacted to getting 20 rupees or the arrow reminded me of every time it happened to me. I feel your pain Jared. I support you and wish you all the luck!

Oh jared, if Im right in thinking this, you dont need the mirror to go back to the light world in zelda as the different doors in metroid take you to corresponding places. Youve been through the door that takes you to that one building in the light world and the one door that takes you to that death mountain cave

Fun fact for anyone whose never played these games the boss Phantoon, or something like that is his name. Well he only goes into that berserk state if you use super missiles on him like Jared did. If you use regular missiles you have a slower, but safer time. Another fun, but spoilery fact below for both other M, and this game for anyone who wants.
Also anyone who wants spoilers yeah unlike what Jared says that boss died. All the things in Other M are clones of things from Zebes (given that the planet exploded) from things like stuff extracted from Samus' suit so she's covered in blood, and gore. Why did the federation clone those things? No idea never actually played Other M as I do not own the system it's for.
Ghost man wasn't a clone, I think. He just showed up randomly

the spacejump timing is diffrent depending if u have hi-jump or not, its easier to get the timing if u have hi-jump
okay this has been bugging me for a few metroid parts of this series so far jared you do know you can blast open those red doors that take 5 regular missiles with one super missile right
He probably want's to conserve his super missiles, regular missiles are not that good after all so he can waste them without issue
@@mattheus6416 Agreed. Using a super missile may be faster, but I feel like one super missile is more valuable than five regular missiles. Especially when considering the difference in not only maximum ammunition, but also the difference in how much easier one is to restock than the other.

Funny thing with phantoon its takes longer to kill him with super missiles than regular ones. because super missiles puts him in the invincible angry phase.
Since you have the speed booster theres a lot to do in Norfair as well, if you can go quick enough of course
