I really enjoy this video with the gorgeous eerie music. This was one of my favorite mall and I had a lot of memories with my Dad and my older Brother. We would eat first and then walk around the mall to burn off some calories as we go window shopping. I left Cincinnati and I came back after about 10 years to find this Mall as a Ghost Mall. Whoa, it was weird to walk around when most shops were closed. I counted 7 stores still open not including the food court. Outdoor World, Burlington Coat Factory and KOHL'S were still open. It really saddens me as I was walking around the Ghost Mall. You did a wonderful job with this video with no commentary and I love the music. Thank you for sharing this.
This music adds to the creepiness factor, I love it! Abandonded with nothing but old memories from the 90's and maybe early 2000's. All the teens who used to hang out here after school, all the little kids who used to go to the attractions... they're all grown now and no one to take the place of that energy they left - lonely and abondoned place. This was 8 years ago too, now it's just worse.
I remember, as a kid in the early to mid 90s, shopping here with my parents a LOT. Time Out on the court, the arcade, the ferris wheel, the brightly lit neons behind the block glass at the Super Saver Cinema, etc... They've tried so many times to breathe new life into this place, and time after time it just fails. Just makes me sad.
How sad. We lived in Fairfield in the early 90s and this place was awesome. Visited the area two years ago and walked thru this place. Use to be crazy busy.
My husband and I drove through the parking lot yesterday and were shocked at how empty and dead it seems there. The music was the perfect choice for this video. I really like it...creepy as hell!
This mall was the shit when I was growing up in the 90's, BIGS, a ferris wheel, merry-go-round, sand pit/ice rink, mini golf, lazer tag, movie theater, oh god the nostalgia, then I moved to nj in 99' and went back to visit about 5 years ago, it completely changed, heard it was under a new owner to try to keep in afloat, a little part of me died when I saw how it currently looked, what happened :(
I remember going to Forest Fair in the mid 90's as a kid, it was a dead mall back then... It only hosted Bigg's, Media Play, Tyme Out, Kohl's, Burbank's BBQ, and Ruby Tuesday's and Bass Pro for a long time... The two other things I miss about old Forest Fair was the giant ball machine scpulture (Where did that go?!) that was fun to watch and the creepy giant old security camera that stared you in the face by Metropolis (It stuck out like a sore thumb).
Indeed, I'm fascinated too (hence the video). The mall is definitely still standing. In fact, a fantastic retro arcade has opened up inside. Outside of that, it's just as abandoned as you see here.
Had no idea you were from around here, John. Or at least spent time here. My family (from Middletown, of all places) would visit here often, many similar memories. I did work briefly with the owner of Arcade Legacy there around the time of Rock Band 4's launch, and that's still a fantastic business, but that walk through the rest of the totally empty mall always made it a surreal experience.
What a crying shame. I'd hear commercials for Cincinnati Mills endlessly on the radio when I was 9 or 10, around 2004. Who would have thought it would end up like this?
Absolutely one of the most architecturally gorgeous looking malls I have ever seen! The colours, shapes, support beams, skylights, everything! It's a shame that it had to suffer this fate. Also, that is some of the weirdest music I have ever heard.... lol
There was a mall like this not far from where I grew up in Illinois. In the 90's, there were major department stores in the mall, and it was thriving. JC Penney's closed just around the turn of the millenium, and after that, nothing has really stayed for long inside the mall, and the decoration is very kitschy looking now. Much of the mall is empty, but it's not as bad as this one. Just goes to show you that malls are artificial places that people are only drawn to conditionally.
I found an article from March of 12, saying that they were taking back their old name and adding village to it. It won't be a mall, it will have a sports complex with three ice rinks and volleyball courts, a new fitness complex and many other fun places for the whole family. So guess they aren't working too quickly.
Wow, interesting to see what happened to this wacky "Forest Fair" mall. It seems like lifetimes ago I was a little girl eating Pizza Hut there and riding the carousel. The mall had all these fun rides so of course me and my sister loved it. The mall was busy in those days. I think my mom got me a cute little stuffed seal from one of the shops there! We have a dead mall here in Omaha too, the "Crossroads" mall.
The area has a few other malls. This one is the biggest and in the 90s it was the place to be. But due to ecconic hard times it fell while the other malls grew because of the location. It's in the center of all the other malls. Northgate Mall, Florence Mall, Tri County, and a few others. Due to driving Distance shoppers went to the smaller malls. Due to the this they tried reviving it. But only had clothing chains inside so it died again from lack of divercity.
I first went in there 2 years ago. The place looked brand new! Sad to see it fading away, but the neighborhood around it has probably changed dramatically for the worse.
Super video. I knew some JackBalls who worked at the Biggs store at Forest Fair around 2000-01. I can't speak for the other stores but Absolutely Horrible Management closed Biggs and doomed its workers. When jackball#1 came on the scene by the name of Steve Dickens (appropriate last name BTW) he was the new store manager. He was the definition of 'mid-life crisis' if I ever saw one. He thought he struck fear into everyone. What an absolute Loser with a capital L. He had his jackball#2 reach-around assist. manager by the name of Phil Parsons. This guy just fricking oozed scuzzball. Had this permanemt glued on smirk to his face. Your typical azsistant store manager who kisses his bosses butt to the point that you feel embarrazed 'for him' when you saw him. They had jackball#3 grocery manager named Eddie Robinette- called himself "The Grocery God". Ha! This guy was incahoots with the head of Loss Prevention and placed a monetary bounty on the head of the cleaning crew at night to set that cat up to make it look like he was stealing but he was too smart for that. Just because that guy " had the drop on him" and he knew it. When Tools like this are in place, a store is doomed to failure. The head of Loss Prevention was some Goon that went by the first name of Clay. This guy had the brains of a salad bar....lol. He was thieving and rippin' from Biggs right under their nose. I'm talking " mega ". I always knew he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. After a 'friendly tip' his ass was caught in the act and charged. Oh those memories, how they linger. RIP Forest Fair. Thanks for video and great times.
I used to go hang out there back n the day man it was the place to b cuts smoke and walk around, game room, movie theater and females everywhere loved that place man what time does r.i.p forest fair
I applaud you. I had been thinking for the past year of sneaking a camera in since the interior is heartbreaking. This is as you may know not an easy task. It is the main job of security to make sure no one films inside EVER. Even in an 'abandoned' mall you will get 20 rent-a-cops on you in seconds if you are careless I hear. The current owner doesn't want this getting out.
Sad, but this is just the way things are - I remember people lamenting the fact that businesses on main street were being abandoned with the advent of shopping malls - and now the malls are experiencing the same customer flight. With the internet, there simply isn't a need to go through the hassle of wading through the crowds at a mall. Unfortunate, but malls will soon become a distant memory.
It's gotten to the point where nobody I know goes there any more. Incidentally, rumor has it that the latest group to acquire the property is gonna convert it into housing or something not retail.
When a few 'anchor stores' close.. that's it.. it has a domino effect. They are not replaced.. they simply end. I see it with too many shopping malls and strip malls where I live.
This mall is so creepy. A person could get lost or worse in there and nobody would ever hear them scream. It has a Kohl's, Bass Pro Shops, Danberry Cinemas, Foot Locker and an arcade called Arcade Legacy that's open. The other 95% of the mall is completely closed including what used to be a Showcase Cinemas which is still lit up for some weird reason. If you ever wanted to make a zombie movie...this is the place to do it.
I have been to Lexington and only drove thru Louisville on the freeway. My Mom had some old cousins there. They live on River Hill Rd.I think its in a nicea are.
What is the population of Louisville?I can Google the info later.Dixie Manor makes me think of the famous Dixie Sq Mall that was finally razed last spring near Chicago.
Lol i seen I was a tad bit up set. I was in town and i was telling my fiance about this amazing place but I couldn't find it come to find out its not even there
BigAnt270 I was also upset to see its sad demise! First read about it on "Dead Malls." It's also a childhood memory for me... it had a carousel, a Pizza Hut, some store where I got a stuffed white seal... Years ago, must have been 1993 when I last saw it!
Went there yesterday, not every been or heard of it, just typed in kohls on the gps and it took us there, my wife was extremely creeped out. It's still a really nice mall compared to anything in central,fl. Just no stores inside, plus to top it off Burlington coat factory was closing, before we left it my wife told me I never really knew are economy was truly failing till seeing something like this
This used to be a good mall that I went to all the time......now the food court is a joke and they recently renamed this mall to "Cincinnati Mills". The weird part is that this mall isn't in some hidden location....It's right off of I-275 and Winton Road. This mall used to have an AWESOME arcade on the lower level and now it's the "creepy" part. Good times...
Paintball!!!! Ha! Seriously though it's weird to see this video. I used to live in the Cinci area back in 07. I remember when that mall was, well, more alive.
I remember always wanting to go to Forest Fair, but I only manage to go after the update, and I was sadden from the lack of diversity. I go to malls for the smaller shops but I was disgrusted that all they had were major clothing retailers. Nothing for teenage boys or younger children. This is why it died
Any number of things kill malls. Changing demographics in the area around them (what used to be a nice area isn't anymore), economic problems in the area, competition from other malls, increasing tax burdens, changing shopping habits of what had been their core customer base, etc.
They never should have built the bloody thing in the first place. Both Northgate Mall and Tri-County Mall are only a few miles away (one east, one west) and there weren't enough shoppers for all three. Once Biggs left the writing was on the wall. About the only reasons I went there was Biggs, Little Professor, and Lenscrafters. Biggs shut down as did Little Professor, and Lenscrafters moved to Tri-County. Apparently the Liberty complex in Liberty Township is the place to go these days.
Oh, and I have a true story about the mall. Something 'else' the owner might not like getting out. I went to that Biggs store the day before they sealed it off. In the back I saw a wire strung up. I had no idea what this was until I saw a Mexican lady come out of the stock room and start hanging up clothes. A bunch of other Mexicans came out and started helping. Yup, just like Oompa Loompas the owner has 'little helpers' he keeps out of sight and out of mind in the sealed up parts.
I'm here now! It's past closing and hiding lol. Appreciate you for the inspiration. Just started my channel so I'd like all the support I can get. Thanks!
The Cincinnati Mall was officially closed on December 2, 2022 by the City of Forest Park Fire Department due to multiple fire code violations. Rest in Peace.
Good malls, like Forest Fair, seem to go away too soon and then we end up with shitty ass malls like Eastgate Mall, which is utterly dull. Now the mall of which the video is explaing has recently been renamed Forest Fair Village and they plan to redevelop the mall again. Hopefully FFV will turn out better and the mall seemed neat when it was Cincinnati Mills.
I really enjoy this video with the gorgeous eerie music. This was one of my favorite mall and I had a lot of memories with my Dad and my older Brother. We would eat first and then walk around the mall to burn off some calories as we go window shopping.

The last breath… before another 11 years of limbo. This mall really didn’t want to let go. Nice video, wish I could have visited!!!
Makes me wonder what kind of things we take for granted today that will be gone in a decade or two.
Middle school. 1991- 1993 that was my hang out! Sad!
Jane Madison Jeeze, I was born in 1991.
How sad. We lived in Fairfield in the early 90s and this place was awesome. Visited the area two years ago and walked thru this place. Use to be crazy busy.
I use to love this mall as a child. With the Ferris wheel and arcade. I miss it.
My husband and I drove through the parking lot yesterday and were shocked at how empty and dead it seems there. The music was the perfect choice for this video. I really like it...creepy as hell!

You think THIS is the last breath? Wait until you see the mall today
That didn't age well
I remember the pool ball display they had, when I was a kid I would watch it for hours
I remember going to Forest Fair in the mid 90's as a kid, it was a dead mall back then... It only hosted Bigg's, Media Play, Tyme Out, Kohl's, Burbank's BBQ, and Ruby Tuesday's and Bass Pro for a long time... Whoa, very unique kid-friendly interior. And great job on the video. Would love to see more like this, or perhaps an update video on the mall?
Indeed, I'm fascinated too (hence the video). The mall is definitely still standing. In fact, a fantastic retro arcade has opened up inside. Outside of that, it's just as abandoned as you see here.
Man, I miss the old Forest Fair Mall,

These malls are so 80's. Nice video.
Was just there today. I live two minutes from this place but this music is creeping me out.
What a crying shame.

Who knew its true final breath be over a decade later
I miss taking my kids here, and wish they would bring it back!!!
It was AMAZING in the early 90's.
One of the better food courts anywhere.
I found an article from March of 12, saying that they were taking back their old name and adding village to it. It won't be a mall, it will have a sports complex with three ice rinks and volleyball courts, a new fitness complex and many other fun places for the whole family. The Forest Fair Mall was such a cool place. If only it had better management it would still be up and running right now,
I totally forgot that place was still there. I was there in the 90s
i miss this place when it had all the rides and games
Urban Outfitters had a quick existence below the regular movies here at 1:30.
Wow, interesting to see what happened to this wacky "Forest Fair" mall. It seems like lifetimes ago I was a little girl eating Pizza Hut there and riding the carousel. damn it was this vacant in 2011?

wonder what it looks today (music is spot on)
exactly the same lol
Didn't that used to be Steve & Barry's at 1:01?
Wow kind of spooky video. I also find old malls fascinating.
I first went in there 2 years ago. The place looked brand new! Sad to see it fading away, but the neighborhood around it has probably changed dramatically for the worse.

Just because that guy " had the drop on him" and he knew it. When Tools like this are in place, a store is doomed to failure. Man, I miss the old Forest Fair Mall, what a ghostown now:(
This mall started dying when Simon took over the mall they took out the family attractions and ended up putting upscale stores like Saks.
That's really a shame. It's so colorful and looks like it was a really neat place once. What a tragic waste.
Can’t believe people thought it was going to close a decade ago. It’s still open with like 5 stores left.
In the early 90s, Forest Fair had a deluxe Virtua Racing cabinet that used air bags for force feedback.
I used to go hang out there back n the day man it was the place to b cuts smoke and walk around, game room, movie theater and females everywhere loved that place man what time does r.i.p forest fair
the color scheme reminds me of the Mills mall in St. Louis, Mo. i love that mall, i hope it doesnt follow the same fate as this one
I applaud you. I had been thinking for the past year of sneaking a camera in since the interior is heartbreaking. This is as you may know not an easy task. I guess Ky doesn't have many malls. The most depressing town I've seen in that area is Cave City while on vacation.
I say they turn it into a large indoor paintball arena. How cool would that be, teams trying to take control over an old mall?
Nice video...the music is creepy! Fits in well with the video.
Sad, but this is just the way things are - I remember people lamenting the fact that businesses on main street were being abandoned with the advent of shopping malls - and now the malls are experiencing the same customer flight. With the internet, there simply isn't a need to go through the hassle of wading through the crowds at a mall. Unfortunate, but malls will soon become a distant memory.
its a beautiful place. they need to save it before its too late
Good News! Although the stores are all closed, you can still mall walk! It's open everyday.
this is so sad r.i.p cincinnati
the Northgate and tri county malls still exist lol Cincinnati will be fine, besides biggest thing in that mall was outdoor world lol
It's gotten to the point where nobody I know goes there any more. Incidentally, rumor has it that the latest group to acquire the property is gonna convert it into housing or something not retail.
Places once full of fun and excitement now empty and forgotten. Quite sad :(
this is a nice mall! why would they ever want to close it?!
When a few 'anchor stores' close.. that's it.. it has a domino effect.
They are not replaced.. they simply end.
I see it with too many shopping malls and strip malls where I live.
I must also say it would be an excellent place for me to fail at extreme sports down its corridors. (Skateboard, BMX, or Motocross) lol
This mall is so creepy. A person could get lost or worse in there and nobody would ever hear them scream. It has a Kohl's, Bass Pro Shops, Danberry Cinemas, Foot Locker and an arcade called Arcade Legacy that's open. If you ever wanted to make a zombie movie...this is the place to do it.
MAGIC THIS VIDEO !!!
It is a pretty place, why are all the shops closing?
You should have seen it in the early 90's!
Anyone know the history of this mall closing? Like why did every store leave?
Did a new mall open up near by so all the stores went there.
I used to go there all the time when I was a kid.
It's kinda sad to see it like this. :(
this place is beautiful. why is it closing?
Coolest place ever when i was younger but it just went down hill fast. Only thing keeping it up is bass pro shop.
I have been to Lexington and only drove thru Louisville on the freeway. My Mom had some old cousins there. They live on River Hill Rd.I think its in a nicea are.
This is so sad...
I remember they used to advertise this relentlessly on WGRR back when it was remodeled into Cincinnati Mills.
What a damned shame.
with the music, it really seems post-apocalyptic...
My hubby just looked it up online,y'all are # 27 th in largest cities and your population is around 602,000.My city has moved up to # 42.
What is the population of Louisville?I can Google the info later.Dixie Manor makes me think of the famous Dixie Sq Mall that was finally razed last spring near Chicago.
I think they're trying to get it back up and running. The only things keeping it runnig are probably Bass Pro and Kohls
Wait its been years since i been here is that the same place that had the movie theater in it, the small amusement park kinda?
BigAnt270 It is, indeed. It's dead as a doorknob now!
Same herr. That place was heaven 2 a kid lol. I planned a trip 2 cincy off goin therr not knowing it wasnt therr.
I live in cincy its still open as of 12/7/12 very few stores and bass pro shops
Went there yesterday, not every been or heard of it, just typed in kohls on the gps and it took us there, my wife was extremely creeped out. It's still a really nice mall compared to anything in central,fl. Just no stores inside, plus to top it off Burlington coat factory was closing, before we left it my wife told me I never really knew are economy was truly failing till seeing something like this
why this happened? seems in very good shape still
Sad to see once popular places like this go the way of the dodo! Cool music though.
Why is this mall so desolate. It looks like it was recently renovated?
why is this mall empty
what’s really weird is I used to go there literally everyday then I stopped going and then went a couple times and so forth 😂
when i mall is this dead, there is no turning back only matten of when it shutter its doors
We've got one of two left.
Why would anyone abandon this mall, its popping with bright colors lol.
what a nice mall
Paintball!!!! Ha! Seriously though it's weird to see this video. I used to live in the Cinci area back in 07. I remember when that mall was, well, more alive.
looks like nice mall
I was there not long ago and I was taking pictures of the mall. I was told by security guard that i had to ask for permission to take pictures.
I work at this mall
I remember always wanting to go to Forest Fair, but I only manage to go after the update, and I was sadden from the lack of diversity. I go to malls for the smaller shops but I was disgrusted that all they had were major clothing retailers. Nothing for teenage boys or younger children.
This is why it died
nice mall it's sad that this happened
What happened here, someone explain please?
Any number of things kill malls. Changing demographics in the area around them (what used to be a nice area isn't anymore), economic problems in the area, competition from other malls, increasing tax burdens, changing shopping habits of what had been their core customer base, etc.
I loved Biggs!

beautiful mall i would've appreciated it....hymph, our mall in winston salem is ugly
Oh, and I have a true story about the mall. Something 'else' the owner might not like getting out.

the music is really creepy In my opinion but good video
+Izaac Araujo Very appropriate.
Perfect homes for the homeless. At least they'd be out of the weather.
