  • Chris Gregory, CJF, believes farriers need to embrace an attitude of life-long learning. He says a good farrier/veterinarian team is in the best interest of the horse. In March 2014, Gregory spoke at the Equine Podiatry Conference held at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville.

I’m coming up on 30 years as a farrier and everything he said is 100% correct.

Chris is more than a Journeyman Farrier. He is an FWCF (Fellow of the Worshipful Company of Farriers). The highest current level of farrier qualification. There is a very very small percentage of Farriers with this qualification.

A good farrier shows up on time. A great Farrier knows the physics involved when he shows up. Too many schools focus on the forge, and that’s terribly sad.

Oh yeah 😎. Wikipedia: Farrier: Part Blacksmith with forge, anvil and hammers 🔨 😄 to create corrective shoes and Part Veterinarian 🙄 for health care.

I’m a bit surprised by this. I thought it was given. Especially the anatomy and biomechanics. Obviously you are going to do a pisspoor job if you are short on knowledge. It’s a bit sad that a farrier of this caliber has a to make obvious statements like this. Make another one where you go a bit deeper, please.
