    Hi Clay! In the motorcycle world, driving where you look is called Target Fixation. A couple questions for you is, what are the peak pressures for the intake manifold and fuel system??
    Cheers from British Columbia!

    So 57,000 gal of Nitro….at an estimated average cost of say $12.00 per gallon that’s near $700,000…..and that’s the minimum cost to run a fuel car……
    In the 80’s we sometimes put a “bullet hole” in the body of the F/C when a plug would shoot out.
    Instead if potholeism we referred to it as “steer to target”
    Hope it dries out down there but in bigger light, may those that passed away during Helene may they RIP.

      Nitro today cost $42.00 a gallon these days. I actually don’t ever remember it being $12.00 a gallons. It adds up quick to a big number for sure.

      @jeffdavis5841 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@claymillican25 Ya I was looking at it over time and thought I'd go with a conservative #. My first experience was as a senior in HS in 1969 with the first nitro car I started to work with, on the west coast. If you bought a full drum you could get it for 10.00 a gallon. We would use about 10 to 12 gallons a pass....burnout, (longer then_ dry hops, a dry leave from the line (all allowed then) and of course we were running full 1320 then.
      Also back in the 60's 70;s and I believe early 80's it was made here in US...(refinery in Louisiana as I remember) Now Arco imports it I believe from India,.
      Hope all goes well and you can move up another spot.

    I agree with the "driving where you look" thing. You should always look ahead, but target fixation is something to fight against through practice. It becomes somewhat easier if you just blur your focus to not see the fine details, also enhances your awareness - don't need to move your eyes to know what is in your field of vision, just move your attention away from the center!

      They take away Elapsed Time because of less roll out. Improved reaction times but slowed elapsed time. So they went away.

I'm a aircraft mechanic and work on cars too, so I love the mechanical aspect as well. I always wonder what it would be like driving a nitro car 300+. Your channel is awesome. You're always answering questions, you're always so happy, kind and positive. It's really awesome watching someone who has been part of nitro so long! You share so much knowledge and experiences. Hi Clay, appreciate your efforts to video all the action in your camp and to answer questions like this now and then. I've learned a lot over the years watching your channel, as you never get that kind of insight from anybody else! So keep up the good work. I have one question for you. On the warmups when done they disconnect the fuel line at the hat and fuel is spilling around from the supply line. Why not have a three way ball valve installed so they can just flip a handle and cut the fuel off from the supply and open up the injector side to let the fuel clear from the engine side.? Less mess, easier... To me anyhow. Cheers AC

    Yeah, it's not just the hurricane folks have to worry about. On July 8th 2024, during hurricane Beryl. We took a direct hit from an EF2 tornado (winds were around 110 MPH) here at the house. It did tens of thousands of dollars of damage to our home and totaled both my truck and the wife's Jeep. All in about 60 to 90 seconds. There's news footage of some the damage. Not of our house, but just down the road. Just Google Jasper Tx EF2 tornado on July 8th 2024. Oh and y'all know how folks say it sounds like a freight train? Nope, Just heard really heavy rain and then it was like a bomb went off followed by trees landing on the house, debris hitting the house, parts of the roof being torn off, and the ceilings in two rooms and a closet collapsing (one being the room I was in). Definitely not an experience I would recommend.
    My thoughts and prayers for all the folks that have lost loved ones during all this and those who have had their lives turned upside-down, we know how you feel that's for sure.

    You learn something every day. It's so logical that there is no need for tire balancing, but I didn't know it. I have seen a professional tire shop putting g tires on rimms for DTM car in Germany. Rimm and tires(slicks) were so perfect that when they came on the rims, it required 0 weights on all four rims. This happened to me only once when I had Breyton Magic II rims, and I bought some premium tires for it. Never ever I have had it again despite stock M rims on BMW and good tires.

    Hey Clay, I'm a hometown guy with you here in Millington, know some of your family and done work for them. Anyways I have always been curious about this and maybe you've addressed it at some point, but has anyone ever made a pass with a Top Fuel car on plain gasoline only and no Nitro. I know it wouldn't be near as awesome but I've always wondered if these engines would run good without Nitro. I'd assume gasoline only wouldn't keep it cool enough to run long but could you elaborate on this? Thanks Clay!

    • @captainnutnut6077
      @captainnutnut6077 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Petrol (gas) is actually used for initial fire up of the engine, so it would be possible for sure, but like you said, due to the lack of cooling it wouldn't be able to run for very long. What I love is watching a start-up and listening for the change in engine note that indicates it is running on the good stuff. 😋 My dad told me a saying he has heard in his many years as a fan. Petrol (gas) is for cleaning parts. Ethanol (alcohol) is for drinking. Nitro is for racing. 🎉 Sadly, here in the UK we only have ONE active and open dragstrip, but hey, at least we have it and get to burn some nitro! 😃

    You absolutely do Go where you look. As an old BMX racer (started when I was 57) I tell all the young riders to keep looking ahead because they're always turning their heads to see who's beside them or behind them and invariably they wind up turning the way they turn their head. Even when you're flying a plane you look to the horizon. I did that once too.

    Clay I follow your TH-cam channel from Ireland, we don’t do any drag racing in Ireland and I am fascinated with Top Fuel drag racing. Keep up the good work and I always look forward to seeing your videos

    Hi Clay, I still remember seeing you at the Mopar Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend, Ontario. On your racepak dash the lower left and right numbers, are they oil pressure on left and boost on the right?

    I can't recall if you have done a video on the warmup from the crew's perspective. I would like to know what they are specifically looking at/for.

    The potholism is true. Im no racer but i gnowingly trained myself to not to to that. Professionaal truckdrivers in europe mostly train themself that way to.

    Hey clay, met you at pomona spring race back when you were sponsered by werner. You were super nice to me and my then 10 year old son. We've been fans ever since, great to see one of the good guys win, your personality is awesome

    Really awesome stuff here. It's cool the way u answer questions n get fans that may not know as much or be as in tune with the sport to feel closer to and get more into the sport. I think it's far under credited what your doin for the sport with the inside view and the more personal look into the sport I think it's helping more than people will ever know. And call me superstitious but if y'all have any issues pop up since changing the box n tester id be goin right back to the old box haha. After 26 years idk lol. Good luck out there clay!!

    Love these history stories Clay. That's a lot of nitro. Love to know how it's made and what it costs. The old box did make an appearance in the video "Day in the life of a...."

    Most keyboard warriors aren't real races, so they don't understand how bobs and weaves going down the track (whether it be in cars or on bikes) usually looks way worse (safety wise) than how it actually feels👍
