On a side note, splits can be sewed back together using heavy duty, standard thread, and even reinforced by applying clear adhesive on the inside, to reinforce the repair. The plastic windows can be buffed manually, using a mild abrasive, such as headlight restorer. As far as I know, these tops can be painted as well. All this does wonders if looking to restore the top, or not wishing to spend money on a new top.
2015 JKU have Bestop NX glide, love it only issue like you stated is scratches on window. If you utilize the Bestop cleaner it does help with keeping the color.
A little over 2 years and 43k on our soft top and I love it still. I am just starting to have a different issue with my rear window panel than you but thankfully the whole window/canvas panel can be purchased from bestop for only $125.
Thanks for the great video Casey. It got me to subscribe. I am a CJ guy with a 2024 two door soft top Wrangler on order so I was very interested to hear about these new soft tops. No zippers! Also liked your comments on running these tops safari style. That is my preference as well, all summer long with half doors.
I know this product is not needed for weather seal,..... But it helps with keeping it cleaner. When it is clean, VERY CLEAN, apply 3 or 4 coats of camp dry. I have applied it to leather gloves, canvas and to tents. It has always been well worth the effort . 🤔 👍🏻
My experience with keeping Soft Top Windows clean dating back to CJ's is to use Meguiar's Cleaner/wax, (Maroon Bottle). It also make the windows a little slippery so you don't get as many scratches from those pesky trail side attack shrubs. A diminishing polish is good for the scratch removal and then Meguiars
I have recently purchased a Best Top soft top too. Love it! When I purchased my JLU I had a JK with a soft top and swore I would never buy a soft top again. I was wrong. I purchased exactly what you bought. The JLU is so much better than the JK zipper ones. It wasn’t the easiest to put on but not bad. I bought a cheaper Master Top and it showed the channels like the OEM and Best Top, but it actually had zippers. It sucked! Spend the money and buy a Best Top. You get what you pay for. The sound isn’t bad either. Much better than the old JK top and just all around better design. I still like my hardtop better.
I specifically wanted a soft top (rag top as my pops would call it), its better in every way except 1. The hard top IMO looks better. but the soft top is quieter (yes it is, plenty of tests online), it stays warmer/cooler thanks to being material vs thin fiberglass, it comes off easier and is just overall cool. but for looks hardtop all the way
On my jku I had trouble getting the interior cool in summer with the soft top and in the winter it was quite okay. However I like the hardtop much better. I added 19mm armaflex insulation to the hardtop and it's been a game changer... cooler in summer, warmer in winter and much less noise!
My 2015 JK with the factory soft top (yes with zippers). Not only does the zippers leak when washing I just did 2K kms of dusty gravel roads and the dust just rolled into the cab. I tried to keep the A/C on to keep a positive pressure but nothing stopped everything in the cab from getting covered in a layer of dust. I had to cover my cargo with a tarp!
Is your OEM the twill top? I have a 2019 JLU in twill (had the hardtp/softop option, twill could be ordered as premium soft top), and it can go down all the way. And still looks great after 4 years - but I have it from May to Oct.
I love my bestop trektop pro in twill. Has the glass windows. I have had it over 2 years now maybe 3 and the Twill it's still nice and black and easy to clean.
Great video. I garage my stock 2021 Wrangler Sahara 4-door. It came with a hard top. I’ve thought about getting a soft top. However, I’m concerned that the additional height of the soft top will be too tall for my standard height garage door. Thoughts? I’m looking forward to see your next video.
I have the same vehicle. I am able to fit in my garage no problem. I can also still fit in with the top in the sunrider position, however I can't close it all the way once in the garage (due to the garage door opener), but nonetheless it does fit. Just an FYI my Jeep does not have a lift and it probably won't since I love just being able to pull into the garage and I drive with the sunrider position a lot.
@@juliemerring7276 Thank you for your information. I don’t think a lift kit is for me either. Right now I’m having shock and loose front suspension issues.
Casey, I definitely not agree with you on hard vs soft on the noise side. Mind you, I do have the insolation panels, but I can tell tou that with my km3, you can have a conversation in the hardtop at highway speed, but can’t with the soft top. Same with handsfree phone calls. I’ll revisit this with a decibel meter when I,ll switch tops in October
@@Casey250not saying getting calls doesn’t work, but people have a harder time hearing me, and their side cuts all the time. I have to put myself on mute so the other does not cut out. Maybe the KM3 are noisier than your tires. The other far fetched possibility 😂 is that being much older than you, I have lost some hearing!!!
Well, I love my hard top winter time. And to be honest, it is much much quieter. Love my soft top during summer, even if it’s a pain loading my dogs in the back (got twoBernese - the can’t jump through a rear door) compared to the hard top. And I will never do trails with the hardtop: I have the body colored option, and it scratches too easily. I also have the OEM insolation panels, and it makes the interior less echo as well as dampen the outside noise…

Finally a video that shows me how to remove windows and fold down top all the way! Thanks for your time!
I love your videos! met you at Jeepapalooza 23'! Awesome!
Great content Casey ! Thank you.
Love your Jeep btw! Just bought a Jeep wrangler JL two door! It’s a start anywho!

I'll get back you when it's really clean.. lol
Soft top was my choice because of the head room. Great to call this out.
It's quite substantial

Ya the zippers can be super annoying

Thanks! Ordered the Kraken system. I’ve been waiting for it to be restocked.
Hope you enjoy it! They are great
This helped a ton and is the best overview we've found. re: the fatigue, did you ever apply the protectant? Thank you!
I have a 2014 JK with OEM soft top, though its getting harder to zip and unzip windows, its still holding up great.
I love the hard top so much more. But I also never like to take the roof off.
That's a shame . I can't imagine never having my top down or off....03 TJ X, 04 LJ

Mine is the base material

Twill is the way
Good stuff, reminds me of the issues you had with the roof rack. Ever consider a hard top?
Yes I have. I'll probably switch to one after the summer.
Great video. Would you please tell me about the camera security system?
Blackvue DR900X-2CH
What is the cost of a factory soft top? I currently have a hard top.
Awsome review!
Glad you enjoyed it

I wish they made a fastback soft top that folds all the way back.
How long, realistically, would it take to remove and put a hardtop back on for security?
Under an hour but requires person to help
Hey, I saw you in Langford today. Are you based on the island?
I live out here in Langford
Make a Kraken for us JK jeepers and I would buy one!
How's the road noise with the newer soft tops ?
Asked before the end of video
Love my twill bestop trektop soft top on my JL
Ya. It's so much nicer.
Had the black diamond one on my JK previously and the twill is so much nicer, worth the added cost

I find tire noise to be more lol
The twill is so much nicer then the plastic.
It's real nice. Like my Vettes top.
soft tops will be outlawed soon by them now.... hardtops are pretty much pointless on a wrangler unless you are mall crawling

Why would soft tops be outlawed exactly?
Sunstrider 🤣😆
Background music is massively annoying
I thought my kid left his Nintendo switch on
