Great review of a great promo. As for the "this shouldn't be a GWP because army building" argument, people seem to have forgotten there is a BP with 5 droids currently on the market.
Ok, I'll agree with you Ryan, this GWP stands on its own merits. The problem is that Lego has just too few fairly priced SW sets I'm willing to overpay on to reach the $160 threshold. If you, the buyer, haven't picked up the few SW Lego sets that are well priced (R2-D2 comes to mind), then absolutely tie in your purchase to May the 4th for this promo. Otherwise a bad deal to go out and buy some crazy expensive Starship line ships or dioramas for this. A smart shopping SW Lego fan can buy the sets they want somewhere else and save 20% at least and then go to buy this promo on the second hand market.
As a follower for only the last few years, I have to say the quality of your content has increased nicely, Ryan. I know you have an editor now and I believe that has really upped your game. But other components, such as the studio, the lighting, the illuminated shelves, the microphone, etc., all combine to make for a much more enjoyable viewing experience. Thanks for investing in your brand. Oh, and the GWP is pretty cool, too.
How can you keep doing this?!?! HOW can you keep doing this?!?!?!? There is just no way!!! The only exception is that you are a wizard! And a very powerful wizard at that!!!!
If found this at the LEGO flagship store in Munich, Germany two Months after the GWP offer ended. Thusly, I thought I would never be able to get one, and my opportunity had been squandered. However, I got lucky when I went to the LEGO flagship store in Munich on a summer trip to Germany. The best part? The workers told me that since the GWP promotion was over and they had so much excess, I could buy it under the table for $20. $20! I bought three of them: one to build, one to keep, and one to sell. Best trip to the Lego store ever. Even beats waiting in line for the UCS Millennium Falcon, I dare say.
I never would have gotten this set if it wasn’t a promo, but I’m so glad it was because it went perfect with the set I bought. I’m limited to 1-2 sets per year, and this year was no exception. I got the AT-TE and the Barc speeder set, so getting this droid carrier went so well with all of the clones I got with the set. I went from having 1 OG 501st trooper, 1 blue Phase I trooper, and one broken Pilot Droid, to a full 212th battalion and a full battle droid battalion with some bonus 501st troopers.
Word of warning with the Battle Of Yavin GWP Coins. The clear plastic part inside, with the printed X-Wing, is incredibly fragile. The weight of the medal causes it to shift in the box and crush the acrylic piece. They checked mine in store after throwing out the first 4, and my undamaged one was ruined by the time I got home. Good luck.
Lego star wars youtubers are so out of touch with the community. Most of us complain because gwps are only available in 29 countries in the world. I cant get this in Island and I have been asking for this since 2008. I can order it off bricklink for 100 bucks with shipping.
Interestingly enough the way the LEGO B1 tuck in is the head going to its “stomach”. But to pay tribute to the original they have their head bend towards the back. Honestly it’s a fantastic GWP. But I really want LEGO to make more separatist/trade federation sets. Maybe that’s where some fans are displeased with.
I think they may have retired the Gungan head mould (unless I’m mistaken). I was fortunate enough to get the 2015 Gungan soldier in a brick convention earlier this year, but it would be nice if this set had a few more of them.
I can't remember the last time Lego has made an "army builder" set with droids in it (specifically battle droids). It's too bad that like most other plastic armies, it's ridiculously pricy (though, I'm slightly optimistic on thinking this is subject to change).
Well this is great because I skipped the X-Wing last year because I heard rumors the Tie was gonna be made this year and I wanted both as a throw back to the OG UCS sets, so looks like May 4th this year is gonna be a banger...
Yeah, this should have been a wide release. Considering the fact the Separatists content has been lacking prior to 2024, this alongside the Clone vs Droid pack would be stellar for army building Separatists
Absolute crime making this thing a gift with purchase. I’ve been planning to get a job to have more money and one of the things which would come with that would be more Lego but there’s no way I’ll have time to get a job in the time before may 5th and make enough money to get this thing
Exclusive gifts with purchase have always been stupid. I would argue the mini dioramas were the best ones. It was a cute little bonus for spending on the May 4th weekend but you weren’t getting something someone couldn’t just build themselves if they really wanted to. The exclusive figures were silly along with this kinda just being a wasted full set
As is often said, you can't please everyone!. I personally will be making a purchase on "May 4th Week" which If I'm lucky will include the GWP's offered. However, I'm sick of all the event's where the promo's runout within 24-48hrs due to Lego breaking it's own rules of "1 per account/household" Many people save up for the May 4th event, but due to those "with more money than sense" making multiple orders just after midnight on the first day, just to resell, it's a tad unfair for others when the GWP's run out so quickly.
I am not paying the amount needed to get this as gift with purchase as I’ve wanted to buy a lot of Lego Star Wars sets earlier this month. I have bought this from eBay so I’m happy with that.
Wild that you got this early but it’s better than LAN reviews that didn’t spend a dime. I love this set and honestly Lego did a solid job but $160 is just being money hungry without recognizing they could make even more money making it a real set.
And for army builders. There is bricklink and the parts don't look rare. Neither are battle droids. Just get the one promo and build your army yourself.
Look I just got the UCS Interceptor and I am completely torn on the promo. It is so flippin awesome as a set on its own and I love it, especially as someone who has exactly 1 battle droid. I would love to build out an army with it and buy like 5 copies of a 30 dollar….. oh wait there’s only one per $230 tie interceptor purchase and it’s resell value will skyrocket in about 6 months. Welp, guess I’m stuck.
locking this behind the 160 GWP wouldnt be that bad if it wasn't locked to star wars sets. My next purchase is the Ornithopter and i would have bumped that purchase up to a full price buy if the GWP applied.
Unpopular opinion: Getting a whole cool lego set, with minifigures as a gwp promo, is way better then just getting one minifigure even if its a very cool one like Revan (which lets be real, most of them that we got so far weren't even that cool tbh) Set that they made this year is a little problematic becouse it would be a great set for army builders, so its sad that most people will be only able to get one of these or even none. However, I wish they continue to go this path for the next year, and will then just make a set that will be better as alone one time purchase, rather then being an great army builder. Good example of a set from this year, that I think would be a perfect May the 4th promo is Barc Speeder Escape - it has a little build, some minifigures, one exclusive minifigure and no one will feel the need to buy more then one of these.
🤣 we did not ask for a droid battle pack for 16 years my guy also PLEASE go to Lego with your availability concerns. There’s nothing other random fans can do for you.
@@grogu1238 First of all - well im sorry if you cant get these promos in your country, but the fact that you and other fans in some countries can not get them, doesnt mean that nobody else also shouldn't. I am sorry for you, but your availability problems, shouldn't be the reason to take away fun and gifts for everyone else. Secondly while - like I said prrviously - I also think that this particular set would be better as something sold normaly in shops, tho the fact that it is a promo doesn't take away your ability to build droid army. In fact we just this year got probably the second best droid army builder ever, with the octuptarra droid battlepack, in which you can get only 3 less droid figures, then in droid carrier for the same price (2 if we count octuptarra as a droid figure), while also getting 4 clones and some side builds. Its almost like having the OG 2007 droid battlepack, back on shelfs. I dont know if you could ask for a better time and set to build your droid army
IMO it's a cool set, but as you said, we already had three droid carriers in the past. Also thanks to the new super battle pack it's still possible to build a large droid army right now. So I honestly would have preferred something else, like an exlusice minifigure with a lower minimum purchase value.
As a Separatist fan, I've been wanting Lego to give us another droid battle pack for a decade, and then they go and make it unobtainable for casual Lego Star Wars fans. It just feels like a personal slap in the face WITH A CHAIR from Lego. I just wanna be able to make a battle droid army. It sucks enough as it is with Lego putting like 2 entire battle droids in $100+ Clone-heavy sets. I am Rebelhomer, and I speak for the B1's.
Ask MandR: Do think that with next year being the Revenge Of The Sith Anniversary we might find a remake of the 212th battle pack and if so do think lego will have the dreaded helmet holes and/or make them specialist troopers like with the 501st troopers. Thanks so much and love the content!!!!!!!!!!! !( please put me in a video)!
The people who are complaining are the people who can't or don't want to spend that much money to get the set. I think it works perfectly as a GWP for the soul reason being because everyone will want it but the set itself isn't super special (as in it only comes with 2 exclusives for right now and you can get b1s anywhere). The old may 4th sets only really appealed to the collectors who owned like every set so this works much better. Army builders i do understand the frustration but with the kid arguement all i gotta say is, boo hoo? You don't get everything you want in life and although it sucks, game is game
I think this is an all-time great promo set precisely because we all want to buy more. Ideally promos won't lend themselves to army-building but as a one-off for the right reasons I don't see a real issue here.

@joshslater2426 they are going to bring back the mould according to the rumours of the dark side falcon.
HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS (AGAIN)
Fun fact: in star wars this thing can Transport as much Battle droids as the MTT, both can carry 112 droids.
10/10 Set. But an 8/10 GWP.
Aunt Beru’s kitchen was perfect, unique and you only need 1.
This is awesome, but I want like 10 of em.
Your positivity was refreshing
I can't remember the last time Lego has made an "army builder" set with droids in it (specifically battle droids). It's too bad that like most other plastic armies, it's ridiculously pricy (though, I'm slightly optimistic on thinking this is subject to change).
Guys let’s get Ryan to 1 million❤
Btw I’ve been watching your videos since 2018
Early review on a promo??? Goes hard dude, happy to have a great promo this year!
When you do a comparison video of the Droid carriers, can you show us how it kooks when you interchange the original and the now Droid rack?
bros got them in that step-clanka pose
Well this is great because I skipped the X-Wing last year because I heard rumors the Tie was gonna be made this year and I wanted both as a throw back to the OG UCS sets, so looks like May 4th this year is gonna be a banger...
Yeah, this should have been a wide release. Considering the fact the Separatists content has been lacking prior to 2024, this alongside the Clone vs Droid pack would be stellar for army building Separatists
Should've had a 25th anniversary battle droid. I'd be the exact same fig but with the plaque.
Aren't you supposed to pull the droid rack partially out so that it can unfold while it's on the carrier? I don't think you have to fully take it out.
Absolute crime making this thing a gift with purchase. I’ve been planning to get a job to have more money and one of the things which would come with that would be more Lego but there’s no way I’ll have time to get a job in the time before may 5th and make enough money to get this thing
I think the Phantom Menace Brikcheadz pack and R2D2 with Darth Malak to get the droid carrier would make a decent MayThe4th promo for me
Exclusive gifts with purchase have always been stupid.
You made the battle droids heads go up when in storage. They’re supposed to go down.
You gotta make sure the battle droid heads are down when they are folded up!
I am not paying the amount needed to get this as gift with purchase as I’ve wanted to buy a lot of Lego Star Wars sets earlier this month. I have bought this from eBay so I’m happy with that.
Same, I bought 2 and trying to get more.
I understand finding most sets early but this? How in the world did you get this? Super impressed. Strong work my man.
The Vsauce part was pretty funny!
Wild that you got this early but it’s better than LAN reviews that didn’t spend a dime. I love this set and honestly Lego did a solid job but $160 is just being money hungry without recognizing they could make even more money making it a real set.
5:52 ahhh yes vsauce productions. My favourite channel
Did anyone else see that the blue torso was slightly darker on the new one than the 2001 droid pilot???
Looking forward to this set. Still unfortunate that it is exclusive to purchases of over $160 between May 1st and May 5th.
And for army builders. There is bricklink and the parts don't look rare. Neither are battle droids. Just get the one promo and build your army yourself.
I wish Lego could make some new battledroid molds, so they aren't as stiff anymore and can properly fold like in the movies.
Did no one notice that he used the vsuace theme when he said (but is it to good?)
the music killed me, another great review
Unpopular opinion: Getting a whole cool lego set, with minifigures as a gwp promo, is way better then just getting one minifigure even if its a very cool one like Revan (which lets be real, most of them that we got so far weren't even that cool tbh)
Set that they made this year is a little problematic becouse it would be a great set for army builders, so its sad that most people will be only able to get one of these or even none.

First of all - well im sorry if you cant get these promos in your country, but the fact that you and other fans in some countries can not get them, doesnt mean that nobody else also shouldn't.
I thought you getting the UCS set early was impressive but holy damn the fact than you got a GWP weeks before is most impressive!
Lego knew what they were doing by making it a gift of purchase
as someone who collected those old ep 1 sets, its a tragedy that this is a gift with purchase.
IMO it's a cool set, but as you said, we already had three droid carriers in the past. Also thanks to the new super battle pack it's still possible to build a large droid army right now. So I honestly would have preferred something else, like an exlusice minifigure with a lower minimum purchase value.
AskMandR: since Lego is remaking this set and they remade the UCS Tie Interseptor and the UCS X-Wing do you think Lego will remake any old sets? Or no
Wow I love this set a lot.
bro became Vsauce for a moment there XD
How were you able to buy it?
Nostalgia promo! Great review!! You’re like the Flash when it comes to Lego reviews! 🎉👏
I can’t wait for Ryan’s early review of the Jedi Bob Starfighter!
They should have replaced the sith infiltrator with the tan AAT to have this set compliment better
Maybe a comparision video with all 4 versions of it?
