I'm 60, have heard all the great jazz, blues, and pop singers, and imho she is the greatest singer I have ever heard. I saw her cover a Billie Holiday song when she was about 11 and then I watched the original by Billie Holliday and Angelina was decidedly better.
Angelina international fans are called Angels. They will give you a full biography. The only reason she is the best kept secret until very recently is that her family did not want her to go the way of many child stars. She won Norways got Talent, auditioning at 7, and 8 by the time she won. They turned down contracts by Disney and Simon Cowel to name a very few. They tried to let Angelina perform at enough small concerts and venues to keep her happy. They let her sign with republic at 14 under the understanding they wait. Also give her unprecidented artistic freedom for that age. She is 16 now working on an album with Republic Records. My favourite 16 year old offerings are her Elvis cover SUSPICIOUS MINDS filmed in the antique store. Also her opening number from her recent concert in Kurbadagen MOUNT EVEREST by Labyrinth, her older covers of Rihanna STAY, or NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART by Miley Cyrus, BORN TO DIE, IM HOLDING OUT FOR YOU (age 10) , ITS A MANS WORLD (age 11 or 12), anything at any age by Adele is spectacular, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY her golden buzzer audution for AGT The Champions (age 13), are all some of my favourites. Hi girl - first saw AJ in London at the 02. It was a concert for Quincy Jones 85th birthday. At the start of the show Quincy Jones said I want to introduce a young girl from Norway - she will sing fly me to the moon in the same arrangement that I did for Frank Sinatra. Mind blowing performance - she wasn't even on the program but opened the show at 12 years old. Flew from UK to Norway in July this year and saw her in concert. She did 18 songs and was so good.

As others have said, she was 9 years and 2 months in this video. This is "her" arrangement. She picks all the songs she does and arranges them. The band affectionately referred to her as "The Boss" because she knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted it done. A year earlier she won Norway's Got Talent with 46% of the votes. The remaining 9 acts shared the other 54%. I'm willing to bet you are VERY intrigued by what you just saw. 😉 So much in fact that you will have to check out another of her videos. At her present age of 16, she has over 170 to choose from. A couple of the "Angels" (what she calls her fans) have put together excellent biographies of Angelina. Well worth reading, and will fill you in on all things Angelina. In addition to being a phenomenal singer, she is also an amazing human being with a very caring and generous heart. She has about 174 songs recorded between TH-cam, Instagram, and TikTok, all of them will touch your soul to some degree, at least they have for me. it's so much fun when I see someone "Get it" for the first time. What is she like now? Some say she is better, but I say that she is just different. I have to say this because when ever I hear her earlier music, I think that this is the best that there is. Of course, I say the same thing about her later music too - so, it leaves me with "She is the best and always has been".

Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. She is 16 now, and is absolutely superb. The reason you have not heard of her is that she's still at school, and not doing a lot of concerts (she did 4 this summer, though). Her family is very loving and protective and they want to make sure she has a nice and safe upbringing. Her uncle is her manager and she is signed with Republic Records. It is a big company but they were able to get a good contract for her, allowing her a lot of freedom to do as she pleases. From age 3 on she practices daily 6 hours, studys music and performing arts since age 4 (on her own volition) a the academies Oslo and LA, plus going normaly to school. Auditioning at Norway Gots Talent (NGT) 2014 and wins. In the same summer after a performance on a open air TV show, the people of Norway declare her "The National Treasure of NORWAY". It´s a bit like being ennobled. AJ herself says "I´m a normal girl, so don´t make a fuzz". This "normal Girl" sings in November 2014 barefoot at the Nobel Prize and almost gets pneumonia. 10 days later she performes in Sweden for a good cause, the audience were informed, in case her voice would crack. English is Angelina's 3rs language behind Norwegian and Farsi along with japanese and some German and perhaps more. Angelina has said singing to her is as important to her as breathing. She will sing anything Acapella at any time and often does. The only reason she is the best kept secret until very recently is that her family did not want her to go the way of many child stars. She won Norways got Talent, auditioning at 7, and 8 by the time she won. They turned down contracts by Disney and Simon Cowel to name a very few. They tried to let Angelina perform at enough small concerts and venues to keep her happy. They let her sign with republic at 14 under the understanding they wait. Also give her unprecidented artistic freedom for that age. She is 16 now working on an album with Republic Records. My favourite 16 year old offerings are her Elvis cover SUSPICIOUS MINDS filmed in the antique store. Also her opening number from her recent concert in Kurbadagen MOUNT EVEREST by Labyrinth, her older covers of Rihanna STAY, or NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART by Miley Cyrus, BORN TO DIE, IM HOLDING OUT FOR YOU (age 10) , ITS A MANS WORLD (age 11 or 12), anything at any age by Adele is spectacular, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY her golden buzzer audution for AGT The Champions (age 13), are all some of my favourites. Because she covers all genre in her own unique style and never shows all her skills or range in one song, you never get bored. Everybody has different favourites. Hi girl - first saw AJ in London at the 02. It was a concert for Quincy Jones 85th birthday. At the start of the show Quincy Jones said I want to introduce a young girl from Norway - she will sing fly me to the moon in the same arrangement that I did for Frank Sinatra. Mind blowing performance - she wasn't even on the program but opened the show at 12 years old. Flew from UK to Norway in July this year and saw her in concert. She did 18 songs and was so good.

As others have said, she was 9 years and 2 months in this video. This is "her" arrangement. She picks all the songs she does and arranges them. The band affectionately referred to her as "The Boss" because she knew exactly what she wanted and how she wanted it done. A year earlier she won Norway's Got Talent with 46% of the votes. The remaining 9 acts shared the other 54%. I'm willing to bet you are VERY intrigued by what you just saw. 😉 So much in fact that you will have to check out another of her videos. At her present age of 16, she has over 170 to choose from. She has five originals, two others written just for her, and a demo she did at 10 years old that was leaked to the internet before the original artist released his version. (It also has thousands more views and likes than the original artists version) She is a VERY unique artist and has studied many of the great singers from the past. Her roots are Jazz and Blues but she can sing literally anything. A couple of the "Angels" (what she calls her fans) have put together excellent biographies of Angelina. Well worth reading, and will fill you in on all things Angelina. In addition to being a phenomenal singer, she is also an amazing human being with a very caring and generous heart. it's so much fun when I see someone "Get it" for the first time. What is she like now? Some say she is better, but I say that she is just different. I have to say this because when ever I hear her earlier music, I think that this is the best that there is. It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... As you experienced, there aren't effective words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). Exquisite .. phenomenal voice and she is profoundly soulful. She has a deeply generous heart and is focused on music with passion and an amazing work ethic .. if you could call it work .. it's her life's purpose (and she's said this since she was very young) which is to sing for the world and give love to everyone that hears her.

Angelina had over 500 million views of her singing videos before her performance on AGT The Champions now her views are in the billions . Angelina has been well known all over the world except in America not so much up until her AGT Champions mini concert.
When performed her own arrangements of " Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Yellow brick Road".
She sings bare foot since she was 6 years old to honor a bare foot orphan girl she met girl whom was around her own age of around 6 years old who had no shoes and had scars on her feet; and also to bring awareness to children around the world who are in a similar situations . The little girl was weighing people on a bathroom scale to support her and her siblings.
Angelina at six years old took her shoes off and gave them to this poor girl, and Angelina has performed on stage in honor of the pledge she made becuase of the encounter with this little orphan girl from then on . Angelina has honored that pledge to bring awareness for orphan and shoeless children around the world by performing always barefoot since that time , now ten years ago ,as she is currently 16 years old as of , January 2022
Angelina takes on a different voice for each song she covers to give homage to the song, and never tries to show off her vocal abilities but always gives each song its due respect. Hi, welcome to the club of people under the spell of Angelina. Your reaction and your face told me you are. Angelina startet singing with 1 1/2, dived deep into Jazz between 2 and 3. Took part at Norway got talent at 7 and won at the age of 8. There she sang Gloomy Sunday, I´m a fool, Bang Bang and Summertime. She was 9 when she sung I put a spell on you. And the scribble you have seen in the beginning was Angelina taking notes for the arrangement she wants.

Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand
(g) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 16 years old... That is unfathomable!... Oh Lord... what is coming the world is not prepared for but we as fans have been on the edge of our seats and will remain there as we wait. No hurry. We want Angelina to do it her way when she is ready. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her. We know Angelina will continue to amaze! We will be here to experience and cherish it for as long as we live.... and I am praying for many more years for myself to enjoy it till the end of my days... I hope to go out of this world listening to the most beautiful voice ever created for man just as Angelina came into it to fulfill her purpose, what she was put on earth to do, sing for the whole World... and Me! To me Angelina is always singing to me transporting me to that beautiful place she inhabits when she sings and to experience it with her. She is 16 now, and is absolutely superb. The reason you have not heard of her is that she's still at school, and not doing a lot of concerts (she did 4 this summer, though). Her family is very loving and protective and they want to make sure she has a nice and safe upbringing. Her uncle is her manager and she is signed with Republic Records. It is a big company but they were able to get a good contract for her, allowing her a lot of freedom to do as she pleases.

Congratulations, you have found the path to a most incredible journey of discovery of Angelina's beautiful art that has been developing since she was a toddler. No doubt she is gifted but she has also worked very hard to master her craft. But yes, don't look away. Her performance here is more than that, it's a total visual, musical, and vocal experience unsurpassed. I've seen it hundreds of times and it still brings tears to my eyes because of the amazing artistry.
She's even better now, but take your time and start from the beginning, back in Norway when she was 7 and won Norway's got talent! I am subscribing.

Angelina Jordan Astar, born January 10th 2006 in Oslo was singing in her crib at age 1,5 Whitney Houston, shortly after, she discovers Jazz. From age 3 on she practices daily 6 hours, studys music and performing arts since age 4 (on her own volition) a the academies Oslo and LA, plus going normaly to school. Auditioning at Norway Gots Talent (NGT) 2014 and wins. In the same summer after a performance on a open air TV show, the people of Norway declare her "The National Treasure of NORWAY". It´s a bit like being ennobled. AJ herself says "I´m a normal girl, so don´t make a fuzz". This "normal Girl" sings in November 2014 barefoot at the Nobel Prize and almost gets pneumonia. 10 days later she performes in Sweden for a good cause, the audience were informed, in case her voice would crack. Roaring aplause afterwards."I´ll be there".

She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.
