    I dont know if someone has already mentioned this to you or if you already know but im pretty sure one of the core principles of the triangle offense is that the positions are interchangeable and any of the 5 players on the floor are able to use the spacing the triangle creates to post up their match-up so the center doesn't have to be the first option when it comes to low post offense and it doesn't require the other players with a good post game to have to be slotted in at Center in order for things to flow.

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Watching this had me yelling at my iPad even the “good" stuff was bad .... Movement is sooo bad they are worrying about who gets the ball and what they’ll do with it instead of moving with the offense when they ball goes from point A to point B.. plus bad choices I’m a big Melo fan but this offense exposed how much he wanted to just touch the ball instead of moving in the offense (being in the right spot for rebounds, back door cuts etc.) next year team he did a lil bit better but god its sad they didn’t get the offense ... it’s really not hard when you sit down and watch tape and study this

    Very helpful video, thanks so much for doing this. Funny how Cole Aldrich is looking better these days. Would love to see more of the triangle and the Knicks, when you get a chance.

  • @deomartinez77

    This is just proof that the player is just as important as the System being used. People like Mello and DRose were the type that played isolation basketball all the time. So convincing them to learn to play off the ball is ultimately what doomed this team. They needed a better bench and superstars willing to trust the system to get you open. Imagine Golden State when they had Durant using the Triangle. You could play KD in all 4 options and Klay, Steph and Draymond would still get their buckets. Or a LeBron James lakers running the triangle. The league needs more coaches that understand how to run it.

    Coach Daniel, you didn't include the Melo strong side fill, first option, but instead of cutting, the guard will set a down screen for Melo on the corner while the center will execute a DOH for an open Melo jumper. It's kinda like a mashup of 1st and 4th option. Warriors run the same play. What is it called?

    Is the best case for Dalembert that he gets halfway-decent at the high-post jump shot, and uses that in the weak-side forward role?

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well long 2's, even shorter mid range shots are very inefficient. So the best case is the Knicks find ways to hie him on offense and regulate him to setting screens. Maybe just not use the 1st option when he's in.

  • @eugeneli2254
    @eugeneli2254 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, more triangle! I really enjoy this video.
    Yeah, it seems like the personnel at the block is a problem. Like couch Daniel said, Dalembert needs to work on his game. if he can't post up opposing big men, what can he do? Bill Wellington and Luc Longley weren't especially good post players. Maybe he can learn from them. Were they a threat because they could pass better? How can Dalembert be relevant in Melo's Triangle?

    • @eugeneli2254
      @eugeneli2254 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe later on, an interesting video would be the comparison of MJ/Kobe/Melo playing various positions of the Triangle! Bballbreakdown did one of MJ/Kobe and that was super interesting.

    Porzingod will probably play as the weak side forward or the guard when melo catches it in the high post. Hopefully he can develop into a post threat. I'm excited to see RoLo, though he's not the answer for first option either but his PnRs will be much better than Aldrich's. Man, I wish Okafor slipped to us.. or somehow Gasol was interested in us. haha

    Hey Daniel,a quick question dude.how would Andre blatche fit into this offense?

    • @coachdaniel8163
      @coachdaniel8163  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blatche would be solid. He could fit down low, but he's really not that good enough to be a difference maker on offense. Not to mention he's not a great defender.

    This video basically proved Phil Jackson correct. Low B-BALL intelligence will screw up a Wet Dream. San Antonio Spurs & Golden State Warriors are still running Triangle Offense in small doses, to this very day & beyond.

      Yankee Mike Porzingis can play Center if Carmelo stays. If Melo leaves, then Porzingis stays at PF.
      Anthony cannot handle Small Forwards at his age.

  • @cuttingboredom2266

    The triangle is stupid. Only old heads do it. It's too complicated to use in the modern nba

    • @WashedCoachWith3Chips
      @WashedCoachWith3Chips 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Far from stupid. It can still be utilized properly if you have the right personnel-players. Today's NBA is a perimeter game but you can still modify the triangle that fits the perimeter game. I love the shooting don't get me wrong, but I still love seeing spacing and ball movement, not 5 out -dribble drive (4 others just standing around) or 4 out & 1 in the whole game. The Sixers, Portland and Denver could easily run this offense!

    • @deomartinez77
      @deomartinez77 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's only complicated when you have bad players running it. Mello is no Jordan and they were only ever able to make him effective in option 2 and 3. He couldn't adapt to the other options and was worse when it came to off the ball movement. Same thing happened with DRose. Stademeier could move off the ball but his injuries caught up to him by the time Phil arrived, so he couldn't do much and wasn't going to be the key scorer on a team with a then super cocky Carmelo Anthony.
