On this episode of the woodland kitchen i battle the wind and freezing temperatures to cook pie and veg ;) This was by far one of the most testing fires i have done in these conditions. It can only get better from now on, i hope :) The pots used are Zebra 16cm Billy and Zebra 14cm lunchbox:

Paul you are a real trooper, I have so much respect for your efforts, but i must tell you the truth, i could not stop laughing, I mean deep laughing, everything was going wrong behind each other and your comments to it had me rolling, when I saw the way the pie looked amidst the peas and potatoes I just lost it at that point LOL. Despite the freezing temperature,
    Despite the smoke attacks,
    Despite the collapsed grill,
    Despite the charcoal looking pie,
You plated that THING with charm and elegance and even ate it. LOL, LOL, LOL. I LOVE YOUR SHOW!! This episode belong on Saturday night Live ( SNL ).
I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT I ALSO LEARNT MUCH FROM YOUR SHOWS AND HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY YOU.

OK... that was funny. I knew it was going to scorch... burn... with the fire you had. Full marks to you for pressing on and showing how to make pie out of charcoal. Tough day... I usually car camp on days like that. Tough weather but so entertaining. Thanks.

In freezing weather like that You did well . The fire was probably too big but everything got cooked , no state of the art camping stove just fire and pots ( the oven idea is good ). 👌

Hi Paul, I'm a new subscriber to your channel mate and have enjoyed all of the episodes I've managed to watch so far.
I've learnt a few good tips from yourself and you cook the best meals and show us all how it can be done in the outdoors with no extra effort.
Real outdoor and no arty-farty British cooking and fare at its best.
Just to touch on Trangia stoves - I'd be lost without mine mate. The Trangia might just be the most perfect all-round cooking system available.
Thanks again Paul and I look forward to seeing the rest and more uploads in the future 🖒🖒.
    -Chris.

Sorry had to laugh, especially the hot drink!. Great video Paul. I know you moaned about the cold but I would have the weather you had rather than the full drizzly murky day we had here in Whitstable. Thanks again for sharing. ATB jim

Hi Paul ,it's always a tricky one fires in the wood , general public PANIC ! The old trangia is good used one for years very realible but a bit like cooking at home. A bit heavy too , liking your cooking direction not just the dreary reviews of a knife or how to strike a ferro rod. All best Will 🍻

I have never used a billy for an oven. Good idea! I like your idea of covering the top of the pie in foil. Could a top rack be made from a cooling rack to hold a few coals from the fire on top of the billy? Thanks for sharing, Paul.

Mr Paul Ramsay Besseker Bushcraft Backpack Chef I really enjoyed this broadcast and I was in severely severe belly muscle spasms laughing at the burnt pie crust and even though you wouldn't chuck it you devoured your wonderfull chicken pie but please do use gravy granules next time and add salt and pepper and still I would definitely squeeze tomato ketchup on top of the meal MMMMmmmmmmmm Noicccccce 😜👍

    Thanks for the video.

    • @PaulBissekerBushcraft

Where i am even in the summer it's quite difficult to get a fire going. Unless you are deliberately trying to set everything on fire it will just go out. The ground here doesn't burn the wood is hard to light and the leaves will just smolder and go out. In the winter you have to keep feeding it or it will go out. It has to be freakishly dry for a wild fire here.
