  • I know, I know ... I'm obsessed! But as I've been playing with the Prophet VS so much recently and the Pro VS Mini has arrived I'm trying to clear the decks to give the Analog Solutions Maximus a workout! I thought I'd finish things off with a look at the Arturia Prophet VS V as so many of you have asked.
    I also realised the Korg Modwave has VS waves installed in the factory banks - so thought I might as well see how they stack up to the waves I took from my original synth.
    So please forgive me - I promise that's all for now (until I have another play with the Super 6).

    @StarskyCarr Korg Modwave has aliasing when you use Vintage8 and Vintage12 bit modes, it's a setting in the oscillator mod section.

      That’s great tbh. I really like the character of their cleaned-up waves, but for instance I prefer the steppy NES triangle wave over an “ideal” one so having the option is great. Not super surprised since Opsix has 8 and 12 bit waves as options as well! But it’s nice to know.

      On the modwave you can also try the 16 steps modifier on the wavetables, or alternatively not use the mod effects at all, but use the pre-effects' Decimator set to Timbre=Bit Depth mode, which also works with samples as well as wavetables. By default the Timbre=Bit Depth preset decimates to 12 bit, but you can set it to anything between 5 and 24 bits via the editor. Actually the pre-effects section is a cornucopia of waveshapers and distortion effects; currently you have to use the editor to fully explore it though. You also mentioned that the modwave doesn't have chorus effects, but of course it does.

    with other behringer synths like the model d and neutron they sound good even if not exactly like the thing they are trying to emulate. this VS just misses the mark by quite a bit and also doesnt really sound very good. And again, the Behringer is aggressively filtering out the aliasing artefacts, which is desirable if you go for a "clean" sound, but it does make it sound different than the Prophet and the Arturia.
    Edit: And the Prophet and Arturia really look like they are using just 4-Bits! 😁 I'm probably wrong, but it does look like it on the scope.

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@StarskyCarr I know. 😉 The sine definitely has more, but the others really look like they have only 16 steps or so. Wonder if the Behringer is running a at different 'sample rate' or the waves have been crushed to fit then all in the Unit. Still love the little monster and tbh never expected much more than we all got for the price if people want a 1.1 Prophet VS then I think they would be happier with the Arturia in those Price ranges imho of course. To be fair, why not compare Arturia and Korg with the original? Equal treatment as Behringer last video. Here we cannot really appreciate since the original is not present, it is Korg and Behringer vs Arturia and your own waveforms. All modern DSP emulations likely using bandlimited approach unlike the original and its Asic. Interesting that Behringer in the end seems to have more 80's digital artifacts than the other 2 in the contrary to what was said yesterday. Honestly all 3 sounds good with their own personal touch. Thumbs up to Behringer as this is the smaller one you can play anywhere, despite all the efforts to make it looks bad, a great little synth.

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Couldn’t fit it all on the table with everything, and I’d need more cameras. Plus editing with a 3 or 4 camera set-up plus screen recording and another stereo track is a massive hassle. I can tell you’ve never attempted it 😂
      You can watch my last video and put it together.
      The artefacts you’re hearing in the Behringer aren’t 80s style low if effects, just weird wrong things. Of course it’s a lo-fi vibe if it’s own as I say, but not a Prophet VS Lofi vibe.
      To be fair I could make 20 minute videos of each, I could do the 4 camera thing to bring it all together and I could spend 4 weeks of my life doing it … all for free… yeah I guess I could go and buy a few more cameras and not pay the mortgage that month. What’s wrong with me 😂👍😂
