I love your paintings, sketches and most of all your enthusiasm! You have me buying art supplies again! I am 81 and haven’t painted for 20 years. I’m so psyched! So happy I found you!😊❤
I don't know whether you catch up with comments on your months old videos Gaynor, but I found this one so inspiring and informative (as they all are actually) that I just had to thank you and cheer for you. I'll have to go back through it again and make notes. I loved watching all your approaches to the sunflowers, and I especially liked your comment at the end - that you know how to do certain stuff in drawing but you want to keep pushing yourself to explore. This is a good prompt for me, and very hard to do, but worthwhile. Your videos have inspired me to get going with my art again, do something daily, do warm up painting etc...... and try out some of the things I see you do. Thanks so much and all the best for 2024 🎉❤
Hello Sheryl, I try to answer all the messages that come in and yours is wonderful, thank you so much XX Keep going with your daily approach, it really helps me enormously XX

I love all the exciting sunflowers you are working on. During your videos I periodically check to see how much there is still to watch, and am always so happy when I see that there's lots more to come!
My dear Gaynor, You have brought back to mind the loveliest memory from 40 some odd yrs ago. When I was about 18, my Aunt, who was a painter and Uncle, took me on a "date" to a theatre in Atlanta GA to see a one man play starring Leonard Nemoy called "Vincent". The play was from Theo's perspective of his brother and based on the letters you were reading. Leonard Nemoy was mesmerizing. It was a very cool experience. Googling it now, there is a video of the play you might be able to find. Thanks for sharing your process and inspiration!
I have nigella envy! I absolutely love their pods but I have had limited success in growing them. I have only harvested skimpy little bunches to dry. I enjoyed watching you play with the sunflowers, the results were stunning. I live in a rural area and a large estate down the road a bit has a section of their field planted with sunflowers. They always make me smile... and drive a little slower when I pass by.
Have you tried using the seeds from the dried pods in your garden ? I randomly shake them about and bingo....they come up ! Our soil isn't great and I know how you feel when certain plants just won't grow well 🥰
Gaynor! You have so inspired me! I absolutely love the sunflowers! Since I found your videos I have pushed on even when I did not think I had it in me.... I was wrong ! My artist friend said my abstracts looked professional and I was just PLAYING with my toys! Lol! Thank you so much!
Thursdays have become my favourite day to wake up - to your videos. Thank you, and so clever to focus on the backs of the sunflower head. Lovely, fresh and happy work.
SO glad to hear sunflowers are staying next week as they're fantasitc...love the big ones and the concertina panels. "I can almost hear you saying stop stop" 🤣🤣
I found it funny when you mentioned the ever disappearing scissors; I used to think when the kids grew up and moved out i would finally be able to keep track of the scissors! No such luck, it's like socks in the dryer 😂😂
I like your comment slightly paraphrased here, "I know how to do the bits I know how to do. It's the bits I don't know how to do that keep me moving on" very zen😊
Hello my name is Anita & I live in the USA. I love art & I have painted in Watercolors & Mixed Media. Just discovered your channel & I am so Inspired. I will keep tuning in. Love the Sunflower paintings.
Thursday - always my favourite day - another visit with Gaynor. I find it so inspiring (and incredible) how much you accomplish each week. As always thank you for sharing your exploration and for sharing the chaos which surrounds an artists life. Be well! ♥
I’m so delighted to have found your really lovely you tube channel. God blesses you every day with your vision and desire to go on an adventure. I want to come along!
Just found you and you are amazing! As I watched you, it was like a replay of a dream I had for myself over ten years ago. So much happened to me between then and now and it's been over twenty years since I have really played with my supplies. You have not only shown me my dream but you have inspired me to play again as I recover from some surgery I'm about to have. Thank you so much.
I've just opened my laptop and your comment....what a lovely start to my day 😊Follow your dream and very best wishes for a speedy recovery. Heartfelt thanks 🥰
O.m.g. You are so like me, I get desperate to get my room back in shape and the art shed then gets out of control once again, how fortunate we both are to have somewhere to be able to put things. Sincere thanks for your Thursday sharing with us all.
Hi Gaynor, I’ve been watching and enjoying your videos the past couple of days since you popped into my TH-cam feed (so glad you did). Would you be able to do a couple of sketchbook tour videos? Your big sketchies are so beautiful and I love love love seeing the creativity in sketchbooks. I have a couple of my own and they are wonderful to hold and hug and look back through. Thanks Kerrie
Hello and Welcome Kerrie, Lovely to hear from a Sketchbook enthusiast ! As I come to the end of my current 'everyday' sketchbook, I will be sure to share. Thank you for watching and taking time to comment 🥰
I enjoyed seeing the sped up drawing with the charcoal and neo colours. The sketchbook looks great with the front and back view of the sunflower. Poor Van Gogh. If only he could know how popular his art became after his death. Keep on exploring Gaynor! 😁
Greetings from Ireland Gaynor. I read the letters of Van Gogh in 1980 ehen at art college and enjoyed them very much. There was a childlike approach to his writings.
Love that your top is mirroring the sunflower 😀Monte Mart is an Australian brand and it’s not spendy but usually not a bad quality. Blessings from Australia
Thankyou Gaynor - thoroughly enjoyed watching you ‘engage’ with sunflowers. I started a large sketch of sunflowers in coloured charcoals and graphite and then put them to one side, not knowing where to go next. You’ve inspired me to revisit them and I have no excuse as I’m surrounded by sunflowers here! 🙄😊
Sunflowers have a special place in my heart because Van Gogh's Sunflower painting was on the wall of the BMH hospital room in W.Germany where I had my daughter, Tara 38 years ago. Thanks for sharing yours!
Gaynor I love your process and freedom that you have with your art. You have inspired me as a newbie on my creative journey. Beginning with such nervous trepidation in my sketchbook, to being brave and just giving it a go. Starting out with water soluble medium, I’m now seriously considering acrylics based on watching you work. Love mixed media! Your perseverance and honest process is wonderful and so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your artistic life with us. Really look forward to your videos and the pieces you begin and the ones you return to. It just goes to show you can’t rush the creative flow, it just happens. Thank you so much 😊 🙏🏻🙂
Your work and the process captured my interest. I like how you use different mediums.I prefer a picture that evolves rather than its planned. That appeals to me and I am sure that I can learn from your video's. I like the look of water colour but this is where I need to come from. Thank you teacher. 💖
Hello Gaynor. Love the sunflowers, the painted sketchbook covers and the anticipation of waiting for the big reveal next week. You also mentioned, in your reply to comments, about more fun with the gelli plate. Roll on next Thursday. Thank you for the constant inspiration. Have a lovely week. 💐
Hi I’ve only just discovered you on TH-cam and I have to say that you’ve really inspired me. I’ve been struggling with finding a style of abstract art that I want to try and I really like what you do. Thanks for sharing on here.
Loved watching your experiments. It prompted me to get back to work and stop being distracted by trivialities such as washing , ironing and cooking meals. 😂 I read the Vincent book many, many moons ago and can highly recommend it. Such an insight into the man as well as the artist.
As always, this weekly video is very inspiring. I love the way you are painting your sketchbook covers particularly your "Everyday " sketchbooks. Thank you!!😊
Oh dear. “Don’t let things just languish about”. Hmm. I’ve had the neocolours for about 15 years and never used them, last year I was in London in an art shop and phoned my son in South Africa to tell him about a product I’d seen (he’s a graphic designer) and he said “Mum, don’t buy any more, between us we have more than enough art materials”. And so you proved him right! I was saving your video for tonight when himself goes off to play music but the title of this week’s video was so enticing, the rest of your video I’m saving to watch later. You’re so inspiring, especially as it’s never occurred to me to look at the back of sunflowers. We are so lucky to get your video every week, Wednesdays seem to last forever knowing there will be a new video the next day.
Thanks for sharing your joy, excitement, experiments, advice, insights and your work, so very inspiring! I use an old phone with a still good enough camera to make pictures while filming (or for filming from multiple angles at the same time). No need to put a sim card in it. Simply hook it up to your computer or to your wifi to sync the footage to a shared storage. There's definitely better gear to use but I rather buy paint than cameras 😅🎨😉 (Ps: as I am watching your videos from old to new, perhaps this issue already got solved)
So enjoyed watching this, as always you inspire me to break out different media and have a play. I was stuck at the end a point you made in that you do the familiar along with experimenting which leads you on to new things. So important to remember, for me, to always do some experimenting. Thanks for the marvelous video, so great to see!
Hello Kathy, So glad you commented....when you lay your red clover on the painted gel plate, do you press them to the paint with tissue, then lift them, then take the card print ? I'm finding it tricky 😂🥰
@@gaynorpattle Hi Gaynor. I roll out paint, usually black, paynes grey or graphite, place flowers, then press light weight paper like newsprint weight, then pick up remaining paint pressing with thin tissue. Lift flowers/or leaves, let paint dry (about 5 min or so) whilst cleaning plate edges. Then roll with lighter color and pull print. I often pull final with cardstock, which is a great weight. Although u also can pull final with rice paper, or printing paper. Then when final print is dry, sometimes I go in and color in the clover flower (or daffodil) with color. Or embellish with posca pens. Cheers!
So, I take up initial paint with usually two types of papers, to get all paint surrounding clovers, then remove clover, let dry and roll with lighter color (not too thick) then pull.

Hi Gaynor, do you gesso your large sheets? Thank you
Hi Shirley, no, I've never thought to gesso the sheets but I don't see why you couldn't.

You almost lost me in the beginning telling of your cleaning efforts in your home. Too housewifey for my taste. I did scroll on and must say I do like your execution of flowers to an abstract form. Thanks.
Clean house, messed up mind !!!!!😊
