He is 100% correct, you just got yourself our south African History book there.
Just because you don't know or hear something for the first time or don't know about or were not exposed to does not mean someone is correct. Brilliant guy but he got a lot of stuff distorted or did not elaborate them correctly. But this is surely a guy you can have a conversation with.Very exposed.

This podcast was one of the best, ever. Thanks Ricky so much! But, what I don't get about SA is a lot of African Americans (with money, like me) would love to come and support S A but the visa process (unlike Ghana, which is booming with AA's) makes it hard to get in. To get there is an FBI check and it takes a good amount of money. I can understand caution for good character, but, AA's with at least one million rands on hand, and R345 600 a year in retirement are rejected. If a visa is created to aid African Americans to come to South Africa (johannesburg) to live, buy, create and invest more could come. I would even sell my beautiful home and buy one there. True. As a South African I did not know how the visa rules look like. But blame the USA goverment too. We South Africans can't come there without a visa.
But we can visit Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba, Agentina, The British Virgin islands, Brazil by passport only. I as a black South African it is also difficult for me to visit the state's because of your country Visa restrictions.
The two governments bureaucracies has to be blamed. America is sceptical about us South Africans.
Credle of the human is a grt place. You need to museum and the caves. I took my family there when I visited SA in 2022.

Great interview. I like seeing different aspects of our country from different people. About the American entertainment, I can only speak on what I remember about black American TV specifically. It was banned in SA because it gave black people a picture of and a hope for comfortable, affluent, happy black families (e.g.: The Cosby Show, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Family Matters were all banned) so when we finally had democracy, we lapped up every single black family comedy we could consume. Anything they played at 7pm during dinner time we would all sit and watch as a family. It became part of the ‘rainbow nation’ PR along with SABC 1’s “Simunye, we are one” slogan. We were really inspired by what we could have and how we could live. First we watched the Cosby show, then Family Matters, Living Single, Martin, The Bernie Mac Show, Hanging with Mr Cooper, City Guys, The Steve Harvey Show, Fresh Prince… literally everything post 1989 we watched daily at 7pm!
This is incorrect I grew up in the 80s , we had Bill Cosby, Webster, Family Matters, Melba and others in the 80s that was centred on black families.
Your information about The Cosby Show being banned in SA is fake news. We watched all these shows in the 1980's.

Best interview yet. I was abit scaptical in the beginning, but the guy is an intellectual. I disagree with his philosophy of evolution, that is a downside of being an intellectual, you lose faith and try to analyse everything.

Hi: I wanna differ with him concerning him saying, The word "Rainbow nation" is miscospeting people that we South Africans has no problems.
The Rianbow nation is in simple terms that we are people with different colours, languages, cultures and e.t.c. It does not talk about our problems.
Nelson Mandela was saying that sothat all of us must see ourselves as one Rainbow. A rainbow is united in its colours. I don't know were does this "problems"thing comes from.
Nelson Mandela wanted to unite all south africans people, But some white people thought they will loose their superiority.
I agree with the guest speaker; The Rainbow Nation metaphor is used to describe our diversity on a superficial level, assuming that we all became one equal nation in '94. However, it fails to recognize that we did not all start on an equal playing field and our need to heal and overcome our problems, such as inequality, that still persist along racial lines.
It was Desmond Tutu that coined that phrase not Mandela

@@viudelaan Rainbow is a simple term that said that we are one nation United in our diversity. It does not say we are all eguals which we are still fighting to become. It only describes the colours of the nation which you can compare to the rainbow in simple terms. It is just a foundation and other things will come thereafter.

You can ask for less cheese and some places you can ask for a thick base but the default is a thin base and lots of mozzarella. NY pizza I believe is ok, from what I hear. By racquetball I assume you mean what the British call squash. Yes. A google returns about 292 000 results for joburg.

American humour is more slap stick and staged...they are the best at Motion pictures though...the big stuff...South AFricans identify a lot with America as we have been exposed to much of their television growing up.. Remember in the Eighties we even watched German TV dubbed into English and Afrikaans...back then the SABC bought a lot of content from the US, UK and some German too. So we as SAns are very well versed and knowledgeable in their culture
I agree with this guy 80%, we only differ on two things.. He's a liberal lefties and an unbeliever.. I'm the opposite.. I would vote for Trump if I were an American and bring back prayers and Biblical studies at schools...I wish all white South Africans were like him.. I like him a lot.
