Hi Minori, I just saw your video sorry for my late comment. I make watercolour paints for my hobby. What i need to tell you is that before you do the actual paint making there are some safety measure you need to set in place. First a well ventilated room pigment particles can be toxic they can go in the air and you can breath them in, so always have the window open. Second base on that point that pigment particles can be toxic always always ensure you are wearing facemask, gloves and eye goggles if you want. Do not wear long sleeves clothing because pigment and paints can stained your clothing during the modding process. This is not a safety measure it is just something i normally do when i have pigments that are presented like rocks like yours are. I have pestle and mortar and normal I crush my rocks before mixing them. I also use measuring spoons to measure my ingredients before using too much. I did love seeing that store and would love to visit it some day,
At 4:14. Those things are ink stones. You use them to grind ink sticks on. It's how they made inks a long time ago. For paintings or calligraphy. Maybe look into Nihonga or Japanese mineral paintings too.
Yeah! Learnt it at school in 2nd grade in a Chinese lesson. When I learnt about it, the teacher said it is used for Calligraphy! Didn’t know about the English name tho >_
Much like with cooking, I would imagine that the satisfaction of creating everything from scratch in your art would give you an innate sense of self-satisfaction. I don’t go around patting myself on the back for cooking with nothing but base ingredients, but just knowing that I created everything from scratch just makes me feel proud of myself (especially since I sliced my first gravy - true story!). I am 100% positive that you will have fun planning your art projects knowing the perfect colours are only a few swirling motions away! I truly enjoy your videos, Minori, and love that you still have (and don’t get offended here, it’s meant as a compliment) your sense of childlike wonder. I share that trait, and as I will be 60 one month from today, you can be assured that I do NOT count it as a bad thing. Hugs from Canada’s Arctic (where it SNOWED yesterday ☹️)❣️❣️❣️🇨🇦
The colors are so gorgeous and the store is like a dream land, I'm mesmerized by all the unique supplies they have and that wall filled with colors is so sooo beautiful. I had so much fun watching you prepare every single paint and I'm already waiting to see you using them.
Pigment is such a beautiful store! Ive always wanted to try this type of painting/ paint making but was always scared because i didnt know much, I love that you can get them online too! Thanks for showing us something amazing like this
I love watching people make paint. It's so mesmerizing! That store was so beautiful. I totally understand why you wanted to shop there. I'm so glad you had so much fun making the paint and learning something new! You did amazing, Minori!
I never even imagined that they used honey to prolonged a paint? Wow!! Thank you minori. Love lots! I love the variety of videos you post but still with art centered. Love to visiti the store
Sweet Minori. Love your videos. Just a word of caution, you should be wearing a mask when making paint. As you saw some of the the pigment flies into the air. You don’t want to breathe it.
Wow 😍 the colors are so pretty ❤ you can also make color chipper for example you can use flowers to make watercolor (first boil flowers with a little bit water then take out them and let the water be dry 😊now you use this as watercolor❤
Thanks to your videos and personality, my brother and I are going to our closest art store today to find his hobby, his creative *thing.* It might be sewing, it might be creating shimmering paint, but no matter what it is, I wanted to say thank you for inspiring us!
I can relate Minori. As an artist, I literally went to heaven after seeing all of these pigments. I also know of this process as well. I have seen this before. I love this art store already.
Those black stones you saw there are called suzuri used for Shodo (Japanese caligraphy), what you do is you ground sumi (ink stick) on a little bit of water and use a fude (brush) you draw the lines. Now a days shodo helps people to focus, but back in the days people such as Samurais would use it, not only to cumunicate, but to meditate as the whole process is understood as a "flow" procces. Every movemet follows the other. From grounding the ink until the last stroke. Xuan paper or rice paper is used for this beautiful art. Hopefully you can make a video of it! You might find it soothing.
This my first of your craft store adventures. Oh the pigments colour they are so rich and vivid. The fourth blue at 17 minute and secs. My hands flew to face with excited. The joy. You have mastered much joy in my heart. I would like a tiny painting and see your joy. You were bad you didn’t tell us how much you spent. Wish much happiness and joy. Many thank you’s.
here's an idea, ive been wanting to do it but dont yet have the resources you can do drawings (flowers or desserts etc) and make a sort of watercolour colouring pad/ book but it'll be a colour/ paint by number, you make the colours exactly as you want it and make a certain amount and sell them so basically a paint by number painting pad (or i guess a moderately sized piece), you use your own drawings and just print on the appropriate paper (you can print on watercolour paper and acrylic paper), and you make and supply your own paints i think it'll be lots of fun, for you and your viewers also, really fun video, im glad you did this because its smth ive been wanting to do for a while, glad you got to do it and enjoyed it : )
I was so excited when I saw you were going into Pigment Tokyo! I follow them on Instagram and am just in love with all the colors ❤. Next time I go to Japan, I am definitely going there.
OMG I want to go to that store, but I'm afraid I'll never come out!😂 I love making my own paint, and I've also made my own pigments, too! I've made "lamp black" by lighting a candle, and holding a spoon over the flame, and collecting the soot. It takes a LONG time, but I don't mind so much, as I feel it's very calming to watch the flame as I do this. I've also made my own eggshell white: gather some egg shells and wash them out, completely remove any liners inside the shell, and let them air dry. Then, crush it up in a mortar and pestle in small batches, until it's as fine as baby powder. I made 5 egg shells worth, and it made a LOT of powdered pigment! My ultimate goal is to make my own Ultramarine, which is made from extracting the pigment from lapis lazuli. That one is a long process, and I'll be making it using a medieval recipe...there's also a video on how to make it here in TH-cam - it's important to make sure you're extracting just the blue pigment, and not keeping any of the impure rock in it. If you happen to check that video out, they call it Fra Angelico Blue, which is another name for Ultramarine. Ok, now I'm going to check out that store online! Mmmm, this is my version of a candy store! 😂😅
Oh I love making watercolors! My paint making setup is much less professional though- got a glass cutting board and some canning weights (diy muller) off Amazon. Even if you don’t plan on long term storage I’d recommend adding honey just in case- but the only definite advice I’d give is to wear a mask. Not for the smell but the pigment powders get in the air and you don’t realize until you blow your nose and you’ve got purple snot.
This is one of my favorite videos! I shared it with my sister. I have never seen paint being made with pigments before so I learned something new today. Thank you for sharing, Minori!
This video idea is sooo unique it was very interesting and fun to watch and learn all this information about paint mixing, before watching I didn't know that art stores like this existed and I want to visit one day
Omg I found out about this store a few years ago. And I’m jealous that you’re there lol. But it’s nice to be able to see the inside. This makes me really want to go there someday.❤❤❤❤❤
As an artist 🎨 who is obsessed with paints . This might be my fav vidio on this channel love it sooooo much. Got to learn and see so much. ❤❤❤❤❤❤🥰🥰🥰🥰❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍💕
Theres a similar store called Kremer in the US (i believe its a Dutch company originally). Ive never been in person but i found out about it from an art supply fair about a year before the pandemic and lockdowns here. Id love to go to either in person, even if i cant buy anything. Lookong at all the pigment color options makes me so happy. (I believe theres also a museum somewhere with a special pigment room that holds samples of most colors and some rare/discontinued ones also but thats a special permission based room that you cant just go view at any time)
Hello. Iconographer in training here. Just a small health tip, when you are working on the pigments, it's best to wear a face mask, because the pigments can be toxic. Take care and have fun creating beautiful drawings.
Also shout out to the shop owners letting you film. Because I don't care what country or nationality a shop owner maybe from... Lot of shop owners are kind of pusnickety about this..ive notice... So it's really cool to look like they're not stifling creativity. Because actually you filming. This is a form of creation too. And i'm glad they see that
I REALLY want to see you use these for an arts and crafts video!!
This was so satisfying!!

I'm so impressed, my sleeve would have been ruined if i mixed the paint.
4:35 They were used in Ancient days they are ink u need to rub the middle in the ink place with Water and used it to make Traditional Calligraphies .
I suggest you wear a facemask next time you do this. Some pigments are bad for the health inhaled.
Yeah
Who else agrees that her outfit looks so pretty?

The paints came out beautiful!
i saw this and noticed the 1 minute thing and just clicked i love this channel sm!
here's an idea, ive been wanting to do it but dont yet have the resources
you can do drawings (flowers or desserts etc) and make a sort of watercolour colouring pad/ book
but it'll be a colour/ paint by number, you make the colours exactly as you want it and make a certain amount and sell them
so basically a paint by number painting pad (or i guess a moderately sized piece), you use your own drawings and just print on the appropriate paper (you can print on watercolour paper and acrylic paper), and you make and supply your own paints
i think it'll be lots of fun, for you and your viewers
also, really fun video, im glad you did this because its smth ive been wanting to do for a while, glad you got to do it and enjoyed it : )
Guys u need to support her so she could have an actual no budget haul there😅
This has to be the best way to do get your paints, if you get good at it, you must be able to always get the color you want, amazing!!
